Quiet cottage in the woods met our needs.
4.0 / 5.0
Highlights of the rental included Master bed, couch, TV and updated appliances like dishwasher and laundry. Quaint and roomy space. Great parking. Secure front door. Main level comfortable temperature - we stayed here in July. Photos make it look more updated and plush than it is: upstairs space way too hot to comfortably abide, one bed is sagging in, windows need updating, porch furniture not as pictured.
3.0 / 5.0
Pictures seemed to be a little misleading. Not entirely what we expected. But it was a quiet area which was nice. Property could use some maintenance. We arrived with out dated appliances and old expired condiments and spices. Would not recommend using any of them unless absolutely necessary
We were left with some laundry tide pods which was very nice.
Tv included basic channels but we stuck to watching YouTube which was a nice option to have
Loads of fire ants in the front of the house when we arrived which wasn’t the end of the world. But it was a problem for our little girls
We spent most of our time out with family so it was nice spot to just have to sleep. Not sure I would stay at this exact location again or to have longer than a couple days stay.

We enjoyed our time here! Beautiful plants around the property, house was clean and stocked well. Will absolutely be renting this again

A lovely spot near the water! We found a couple spots to watch the sunset, but really enjoyed the loft area, as well as being surrounded by forest and flowers! It was a great location, where we could take day trips to all the local towns, and still get back to tuck in!

This vacation rental was alright for staying overnight but not a place we would spend much time. It is an older home, with some remodeling. We were there in early April with temps in the 40s and rain- the heat was inadequate. The bathtub was old and slippery, grab bars but no anti-slip bathmat. The bed was at least 3ft off the ground- unnecessary and difficult to get in- with one side step stool) and a too soft mattress (I know some people may like that). The step up to the front porch/ deck is high/difficult for someone with mobility issues. And, is there a reason that the code for the entry is 10 digits- typically 4-6 so that you can remember the code when going in and out.

I stayed at the house in February and the weather was cold. The wood stove isn’t just charming - it’s the main heat source for the whole house. (There are some little space heaters as well.) Bring firewood with you. I also wished I had brought slippers!
The other reviewers are right, the house smells musty. Aside from that, it’s spacious, had everything I wanted in the kitchen, and worked well for my writing trip on my own. I felt very comfortable in the neighborhood.
The bed in the bedroom on the ground floor is raised up and has a footstool to climb into it. All other beds are upstairs in one large room.

I was here for 5 days with my husband- the house does not heat well, the fans are dusty, and the main bedroom bed is a piece of memory foam on top of a hard mattress which is extremely uncomfortable.
On top of this, my husband got locked out without his phone and tried to get back in (in broad daylight at 1pm, when we had booked late checkout already for 2pm) and the owners of this property who seem to be right across the way called the police on him no questions asked and no phone call to me (the person who booked). AFTER this all happened an agent from Vacasa called me and essentially said nothing could be done about this situation.
Be cautious if you choose to book here, and maybe don't book with Vacasa.

Nice location, basic creature comforts.

Having never stayed on the island before, we we worried about the ferry schedule, but it was perfect, and the house was wonderful. Totally recommend!

This house surpassed my expectations! It's cozy with enough room to have a family gathering. The upstairs has a lot of beds, downstairs has one more bedroom. Back deck and front porch! Perfect for sipping coffee. Large couch seats maybe 8 people, large dining room table. Adequate kitchen. Perfect house for a Whidbey island getaway!

The location to where we wanted to stay was great. It is located on the island that we had fun crossing with the ferry.

Older home with some updates. Very clean. It had everything we needed. It would have been nice to have coffee and a couple bottles of water available on arrival. I loved the heated floor in the bathroom. The stairs to the upper bedroom were slippery. Owner definitely needs to add treds on stairs. I would stay again.

The house was clean and had everything you would need. The beds and pillows were so comfortable. Lots of room, my only suggestion is better lighting. Maybe a few lamps upstairs. We were there at the end of October so there were pine needles everywhere but that's not something that can be helped. The reason I gave it a 4 star rating was we had trouble with the keyless entry a few times. The manager helped over the phone and we were able to lock it. When we came back at night it would not unlock so we called again. After trying to talk us through she ended up driving out at night and was able to get us in. The maintenance man was there right on time in the morning to fix it.
1.5 / 5.0
When we arrived we couldn't get the code for the lock to work. We called the 800 help number and they couldn't help us. The key in the lock box didn't work. The owner called and said a maintenance man who got us into the house after nearly a 2 hour delay.
The maintenance man showed us how to work the lock, but we continued to have trouble. Every time we tried to unlock the door or lock it, it took several tries, sometimes many tries.
The bed is VERY high with a large step stool next to it. My wife was concerned about falling during the night when she had to get up, so she slept on the couch. She also didn't want to use a bed in th loft due to concern about navigating the stairs in the middle of the night.
There was no instruction sheet as other rental houses always have.
We couldn't connect to the wifi and called to 800 number. Our grand daughter whom we were visiting discovered the power to the modem was turned off.
As others have commented, the house was cold and smelled musty. The heater took VERY long to heat the house then the musty smell disappeared. There are now matches available for the fireplace. Also as others have commented, the lighting is poor.
We will not book to house again or recommend it to others.

The house is fine, nice amount of things inside, comfortable beds, but beware: the windows mostly don’t open or don’t have screens, the back screen door doesn’t open, we had bugs inside, and our clothes smelled very musty after sleeping in the main bed. The house smells it’s age, and needs a solid airing out, drying out, and refresh.

We came for opening day fishing and were very happy with the central location to the lakes. The neighboorhood felt very safe and was nice and quiet. The house was fairly clean. The beds and bedding were very nice and super comfortable. Nice window coverings. The kitchen is large and well stocked. Nice tv room with a comfortable couch and lovely fire stove which we really enjoyed. Many streaming channel options on a nice television. Bbq was clean. Nice heated floor in the bathroom.
We have stayed at a lot of rentals and I always try to give an honest and positive review. I feel this place has great potential. If some time was given to a few details. When driving up to the house my initial thought was the yard and house don't look well cared for. There is great potential for some nice landscaping as there are many beautiful trees and shrubs. The walkway up to the house has loose cement and is a tripping hazard.
There was an awful smell upstairs where my husband and I slept. Smelled like a mixture of cigarette smoke, urine, maybe dirty carpet and mold. Had to leave a window open just so we could sleep up there. Railing for the stairs does not come all the way to the top of the stairs which makes traveling down the stairs at night with minimal lighting very scary and potentially dangerous as the stairs are steep. The lighting is very poor throughtout the house. Light bulbs of all different watts in most of the fixtures. Many cob webs hanging from the ceilings. Window frames and slider gutter were very dirty. Only two smoke alarms in the entire house not sure they worked no test lights showing. Showerhead is covered in hard water calcification so produces low flow and toilet only flushes if you hold the handle down until it is empty. Bugs in corner of ceiling cobweb in bathroom.
Although the kitchen is large the lighting is so bad in here you can hardly see what you are doing. The refrigerator leaked water onto the floor twice while we were there soaking a corner of a floor rug. There are a lot of utensils but some are rusty and should be discarded and replaced. The inside of the cupboards and drawers look dirty because of the shelf liners.
We felt that with a few minor improvements that this place has a great chance at being an often used rental. Great central location in a quiet neighbourhood. They must take care of the smell upstairs though! Wish I could have left a better review. But I hope this helps the owners make some much needed improvements so they can get the most out of the rental. We would like to come back but only if the upstairs smell is resolved.

House was nice and clean and perfect for my family and I. Only downside is it is older and does have a bit of a musty smell. Right by the ferry and in a nice quiet location in the woods.

The house was really cute... loved the heated floors in the bathroom!! :) it is older with some opportunities for heat containment. We put a pillow in the window and converted the game storage area with a sheet to help contain the warmth...
The house is comfortable and would be welcoming for a larger group. Wish there was a house book to capture rules, workings (fireplace... was it okay to use?) and wrapping the stay up with (expectations with linens, garbage and closing up).
Overall, I liked it and would definitely stay again

We stayed here 2 nights and it had everything we needed (except a hair dryer- but ocean breeze took care of that!). The kitchen is nice and spacious and very well equipped. I was able to find a pie pan to make a local berry pie! The Deck is one of the best features of the property. While there are a few neighbors on the street, it felt very private. Even though it was summer, I loved the heated bathroom floor in the mornings and evenings.

As other reviews noted, it smells like an old house. However, it is clean and functional. About 15min drive to most parks and locations in South Whidbey Island. Fairly quiet except for occasional traffic noise. My young kids enjoyed it as well.

The house was a good location but it has a very weird lay=out which made it awkward and it smelled musty. It would have been an ok price as listed but not when the added fees were included. I wouldn't stay there again.

Great Location. We stayed close to friends and only used the place for sleeping. It was clean but it is old and smells musty. We didn’t use the kitchen but it appeared to be well stocked if you did plan on using it. The pictures are light and bright online. It is nestled in a wooded area and was darker in reality. It was quiet and you are surrounded by nature.
3.0 / 5.0
The Pros: Reasonable price, quiet neighborhood, decent beds and bedding, kitchen with cooking stuff (not the greatest quality or even enough of some things though)
The Cons: The musty smell others mentioned is a real thing. Our friends who were with us didn't seem to mind. "Smells like Grandma's house." one said. It bothered me.
Some of the kitchen equipment is really bad - "non-stick" pans from last century, rusty knives etc.
The windows are filthy as are the window tracks - full of bugs.
The screen door, as many have said, is just ridiculous. When you wanted to go on the porch, you'd realize what a struggle it would be and just give up!
There were cobwebs in the corners and on the ceilings and vents.
To sum up, if you are there with a family with kids, it's a pretty good choice. Four beds upstairs- great for kids (although the wooden stairs are steep and slippery). But if you want a spotless, luxury retreat, this place is not for you.

The house is a little old and smells old.
But for the price it was perfect.
Was visiting the island for a class for the weekend.
Family was supposed to come, but ended up not able to.
So I enjoy the house alone.
The downstairs bed was AMAZING.
I slept sooo good. Great selection on the TV apps.
Because it is off the road, It was soooo amazingly quiet and peaceful.
If I visit the island again, I definitely rent this place again.
Maybe a new shower head would be great and maybe a few plug ins to help with the old smell.
Thank you for a amazingly quiet and peaceful weekend.

Cottage in the Woods
We enjoyed our stay in this cute cottage. There is adequate space to accommodate more people as long as you can manage with one bathroom. There were no instructions for use of the TV (there's WiFi but we could't find any local channels for news) or fireplace (no starter kindling provided or how to properly light this type of unit). There were also no instructions for check-out. I called and was told to wash my own towels and sheets, which is fine except that when we ran the towels at night there is no door on the laundry room so it was loud throughout the cottage. There is no full length mirror, just one small mirror in the bathroom. The bathroom floors are heated, which is a plus when the weather is cold but there were no instructions on how to turn it off. All in all the cottage was well suited for our needs.

Convenient and Cozy
We had a nice stay at the Country Escape, and my 4-year-old and 2-year-old in particular enjoyed sleeping in their little beds in "the attic" (but watch your heads up there if you're a grown up!). The layout is a bit unusual, and the house is older, so probably a best fit for folks who don't mind a bit more rustic experience. We appreciated the wood stove on our first rainy day on the island, and the location close the ferry was convenient for us. Everything that mattered most was clean (linens, dishes), but it was a bit cobwebby and dusty in places (again, it's an old house, so somewhat expected). We would stay again if we found ourselves on the island.

Everything was clean and so very comfortable. The pillow are amazing. Plenty of space and all the dishes and cooking tools you could ask for.
Will return here when we visit next.

Not so great.
The home is old, but clean. The lighting is poor. The kitchen is big and modern. The heating system does not work well. We were thankful that one of use knew how to build a fire in the wood burning stove and that we happened to have some matches because there were none in the house that we could find. Even after turning up the thermostat, the house did not heat with that heating system. The extra blankets and linens were old and yucky. There were no written instructions for anything, including the list of things to do before checkout. The house is easy to find and fairly close to the Clilnton ferry dock. I was also supposed to receive the access code the morning of our check-in. It did not come and I did have to call the representative to get it via phone. I would not go back.
