About this house rental
The Flounder Inn is a secluded Gulf-side, waterfront location with beautiful sunset views and a private dock. Charmingly rustic, this family cabin sleeps eight people comfortably. Pine wood floors, cypress walls, and high ceilings welcome visitors to this warm and inviting vacation home. An open plan with plenty of seating with all the necessities including a wood stove (firewood can be purchased locally), rounds out this unique and cozy cabin by the sea. Explore the gulf with our 3 complementary kayaks.
Flounder Inn is located on the far northwestern edge of the island of Cedar Key, Florida, on a private, peaceful lot just 2.5 miles from downtown.
Flounder Inn offers a king size bed in the master bedroom located on the main floor along with a full bath and queen size sleeper sofa. Upstairs are two guest rooms and a half bath. One room has two twin beds and the other has a queen size bed. There is also a large wire pet kennel, and dog bed, bowls and toys for your furry friend. You’ll find Dish Network TV; plenty of games and puzzles and at your front door awaits a world to enjoy. The dock located on a short canal leading to the open Gulf is perfect for kayaking (3 kayaks are available for your use), crabbing, fishing, bird-watching, and cast netting for mullet. At high tide you'll see and hear mullet jump from the water as the osprey and cranes hunt in the canal. Ocean tides, constantly in motion, are nowhere more obvious than at Flounder Inn. From high tide to low and every stage in between, the scene is always changing. Flounder Inn has a screened porch and an open deck, overlooking the water with a western view of the open Gulf and those colorful sunsets.
The cabin itself is like a photo page torn from an old magazine. It's a family history, a novel written over time. The characters in the story are family members and friends who, over the years, built Flounder Inn with their own hands; bringing materials from their homes in Gainesville working all weekend and then doing it all again the next weekend until completed. Flounder Inn has changed little over the years except for the obvious modern additions of central heat and air, cell-service booster, and a smart TV with Dish network satellite hook-up. Be prepared to use your own data plan, as Flounder Inn has no Wi-Fi. Who knows, you may find your group enjoying a little less "screen time" and a little more "island time". The maritime environment surrounding Flounder Inn and Cedar Key is a treasure map of things to see, do, and learn. The water, the tides, the mud flats, museums, Indian Mounds, abundant sea life, and sand bars are all waiting for your discovery. With signed releases, there are kayaks available for your use. Launch directly from the dock using the Kaya-arm for stability.
Parking at Flounder Inn is adequate, two cars may park under the cabin, and three will fit in the yard. If you are bringing a boat, please understand, there is limited space for boat parking and maneuvering. It is not advisable to bring large boats and trailers, due to the space and configuration of the parking area.
BE ADVISED: Parking is on Flounder Inn property only; there is NO overflow parking available.
Choose Flounder Inn for your next visit to Cedar Key. Launch your boat at the city marina or at Shell Mound Park and bring it around to the Flounder Inn dock. Be aware the extreme tidal changes mean there will be times you'll not be able to take your boat out from the dock or bring it into the dock. When the tides are right, Flounder Inn offers easy access to the Gulf of Mexico and all that it has to offer. Bring your bicycles, rent a golf cart, use the kayaks and enjoy fresh seafood, cool drinks, and live music at local restaurants. Close out the day watching the sun set over the Gulf from the open deck of Flounder Inn. You may feel as though you are floundering in your home life, so BOOK NOW and re-set at a perfect stress relief location...Flounder Inn.

Third time staying at the Flounder Inn. It’s very cozy and comfortable. Always clean and is in a great location with access to the water. Hope to see you again in the spring.

Had a few issues with some roaches found in kitchen and fridge on our arrival. However, the view out back was beautiful. It was spacious and organized. Property managers were fantastic with their communication.

Second time staying at the Flounder Inn and I will definitely be back. Its very cozy yet roomy with plenty of privacy and only 5 minutes from downtown. To be honest its bigger than I need but the access to the water is what sold me on it. Now its my number 1 choice for a week of kayak fishing in Cedar Key. See you again this fall.

The property is pleasant and although rustic was fine. Plenty of room... but we had a rude awakening when after lights out I had to get up for something and turned on the kitchen light and found the kitchen alive with roaches. I reported it to the Management and they said it was palmetto bugs. ha ha. I know palmetto bugs and these were roaches. Also, we told them we would be 4 guests and were left to share 3 bath towels. On the positive side there is a nice porch overlooking a tidal creek and it is very peaceful and quiet.

We love rustic so Flounder Inn was perfect for us…no frills but most modern conveniences. For some reason I thought the house had Wi-Fi so I was surprised to find it doesn’t. My daughter could pull it up on her phone and somehow connected me for a short period of time each day. It really wasn’t a problem…but head’s up to those expecting it. We are nature folks so spent a lot of time roaming the area…the shell mound, a few nature trails around, etc. And of course ate as much seafood as possible. A nice few days in a nice location.

Loved our stay at the Flounder Inn.
Myself, my husband, and our 2 grown sons met here for Christmas and we had a fun and relaxing long weekend. The house was very comfortable and had that welcoming feeling. Very peaceful and serene outside and a very nice view.

I was only looking for a place to relax and fish from my kayak for a few days. This place exceeded my expectations. It’s located perfectly and was very cozy and relaxing. I paddled out into the flats every day and caught some amazing redfish, trout, and snook. I hope you have a few days for me this spring because I’m definitely coming back. Ohh by the way. The town is very quaint and laid back with very friendly locals I tried most of the restaurants and they were all great.

We enjoyed everything about our stay at Flounder Inn. The house is dated and so is the kitchen equipment but it was so comfortable and cozy who cares! The location is not near town but we liked the privacy. The kids loved fishing off the dock and it made for some great bonding time. We were so happy with our stay!!!

This camp was well appointed, comfortable, and easy to access. Extra effort had been made to welcome guests. We used the fishing poles and the kayaks. I would suggest adding the need for the no-see-um smoker rings for the porch. Loved Cedar Key!

Great comfortable and relaxing property; Great views of nature from inside house or on screened porch and open deck; Location strategic for short and long kayak trips to historical islands

We enjoyed our stay at Flounder Inn. The area is unique with Dock Street and all the shops, restaurants, boat tours about 2 miles away. Spending time at the house and experiencing the changes in the tides was memorable. Fishing from the pier with the provided finishing gear was fun! Those crabs will snap your line! To our surprise, we almost caught a small shark. We were able to use the kayaks several times, too and were startled by dolphin. The birds and wildlife, the nature noises from all aroun, the briney smell of the gulf, sunsets and afternoon rain showers were enjoyed right from the porches. The Cedar Key Museum and Cemetery Point hiking trail are within easy walking distance. Several Springs are around an hour's drive if wanting to exploree further. The house itself has plenty of room, sleeping options, cool AC to escape the heat and humidity when needed, and more character than I can describe to make our Summer Trip memorable. Thank you for making this space available to us to make our own memories and continue the tradition of Flounder Inn

Overall good stay
Very quiet & relaxing. The property was stocked with the essentials. There was more than enough space to be together or separate if personal space was needed. The kayaks were an added bonus.
The biting bugs were relentless. We had to keep a citronella candle burning whenever in the kitchen & when on either deck (along with applying plenty of bug spray).
Taller people were not top of mind when the shower head was installed. I’m 5’8” (the shortest in my family) & it was at my eye level. Our 6’2” 17 year old basically had to get on his knees to wash his hair / rinse himself off.
The buoy, hanging over the door, in which the fridge resides, appears to have been glued down. My son & I both hit our heads on it & ended up with glue in our hair.

Just what we needed
(June 24,5,6, 2022)Beautiful, well maintained, expertly stocked. All areas labeled for an easy discovery process. all mattresses were just right- firm without being hard. The decks- ( both screened and not), were perfectly located to take advantage of the waterfront, sunrises and sets, 3 kayaks were well used, and the property has the paddles and the life vests, be aware of the tides, as it shifts about 5 feet vertically, and that means about 20 feet of lateral water cover. launching in a high tide is super easy, low tide takes a bit more creativity and nimbleness, as you need to bring the kayak to the dock ladder, and mount under much more unstable conditions, unless you wish to get pretty darned muddy! Sunrises and set are AMAZING- an abundance of birds- ( an Osprey family is in residence, and regularly landed in a tree 15 off the deck for spectacular viewing!!). The only negative is not owner controlled- there are SWARMS of tiny biting gnats!! We found we could keep them at bay by 1) diligent screened door closure, 2) keep a citronella candle burning in the screened porch, 3) use a good insect repellant on exposed skin, and a deet 100% on your hat, both underside and topside to keep them from your face, or pray for a 10-15 MPH breeze. Flounders Inn is TOP NOTCH!!

It was a great weekend getaway with the girls!
The property was great. Love the location and not far from town. The only thing I would say is put a fan on the porch to help with the sand nates. Over all it looked just like the pictures and was great it had very thing that we need to cook with. I did clean one of the cast iron's and seasoned it. Would return to this unit again.
Thanks again for a Wonderful time.

Wonderful Stay at the Flounder Inn!

Great location! Beautiful area! Lots of birds to see and hear!
We loved the Founder Inn! Cabin was just like cabins in Michigan. Plenty of room! Neighbors on both sides were friendly enough. We were not a noisy group. Both neighbors have dogs so if you don’t like barking dogs, or one has an airboat and a noisy elevator this might not be the right place for you. We were gone enough that it wasn’t a problem. Close to so many trails, parks and Cedar Key downtown, yet well away from any crowds. Mostly a quiet and peaceful place to stay. Cabin has everything you may need. Lovely sleeping quarters. Our only disappointment was the difficulty launching kayaks. There has to be a better system. We kayak a lot in Michigan so we are no stranger to the sport. That we be my only real complaint. We would stay there again!

Perfect getaway
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, especially fishing off the dock and kayaking. An outside shower would be a great addition to the place. Our bed was a little too soft for our liking but more than adequate for a few nights. Thanks

Redfish!
Very nice place. Hope to come back again. Good kayak spot. One problem: Refrigerator is in a separate small room next to kitchen. Doorway to that room is very low and they have a bumper to keep you from hitting your head going into the room. They need to put something on the other side of the doorway so you don't hit your head going out! Bumped my head hard a couple of times coming back from the regrigerator.

Home away from home
The home was like a bungalow hidden in a pirate cove with a beautiful view, brilliant sunsets. Beds were comfy. Kitchen/baths were clean and had everything we needed. Kayaks were at hand. Local scene was seemingly untouched by time, uncomplicated. Just enough to get into downtown for a a couple of days. Prices were great! Was such a pretty town and landscape. We loved Cedar Key!

Sweetheart property
My husband and I like quiet peaceful vacations where we can be comfortable, kayak, birdwatch and just slow down from life. Cedar Key and Flounder Inn are perfect for this vacation. We loved the house, it is cozy, quiet, comfortable, has a wonderful location on the water. We enjoyed both the open porch, the screened porch and the dock. the house offered everything needed. We would certainly love to come back to this rental. Cedar Key is an old love for us, and just our speed. Friendly gentle people, and a laid back atmosphere. thanks for sharing your home! and McCormick was wonderful to work with!

Peaceful getaway
This charming waterfront home was obviously filled with wonderful family memories. We felt very much at home. We didn’t miss WiFi or laundry or dishwasher. Kitchen was well equipped. Great water pressure in shower. Nice tasting water for Florida. We really enjoyed taking the tandem kayak out. My only suggestion to make it even better would be to have some firewood, charcoal briquettes and lighter fluid available. We would definitely stay here again.

unplug and relax
We knew the Flounder Inn did not have wifi, washer&dryer, or dishwasher and we didn't miss them. Our only complaint is the water heater doesn't last long; enough for one tub or a short shower, but it does heat back up pretty quickly. The home is cozy and it was cool enough to enjoy the wood-burning stove. We brought our kayaks and enjoyed paddling around Cedar Key. We also made trips to Ginnie Springs, Blue Springs, Wekiva River. The Cedar Key clams are highly recommended :)
