The King William Historic District is located south of downtown. It’s boundaries include Durango, South St. Mary’s, Eagleland and the San Antonio River.
Our lovely district encompasses land that once belonged to the Mission San Antonio de Valero, more commonly known as the Alamo. The area was divided and laid out in its modern day lots in the 1860s.
Around this time, the area was largely populated by German immigrants, who built the impressive homes we see today, in Greek Revival, Victorian, and Italianate styles.
While the area fell out of favor in the early 20th century, it once again gained in popularity around the 1950s. In 1968, the King William neighborhood became San Antonio's first designated historic district. In 1972, it was listed as a National Register Historic District.
The King William neighborhood is characterized by a unique mix of vintage homes and historic mansions, providing a feast for the senses. We are proud to call some of San Antonio’s most beautiful and historic homes our neighbors.
And while the whole city of San Antonio is right at your fingertips, you’ll find plenty to do right in the neighborhood. We’re proud of our beautiful scenery! Take a stroll through King William Park, home to a picturesque gazebo, palm trees and walking paths to explore.
For an inspiring, interactive stroll, consider Chris Park at Ruby City, which opened in 2005. It features a stone walkway running throughout the park embedded with fifty-five LED lights that shine at night and resemble constellations. Benches with inscriptions offer a place to reflect or write.
While you’re there, don’t miss the opportunity to tour Ruby City, a contemporary art center providing space for the city’s creative community. It offers both an extensive contemporary art collection and beautiful architecture. And it’s free! Down the street, stop in at Blue Star Contemporary and take your time wandering through its most recent exhibition.
If all the strolling works up an appetite, you’ve got plenty of choices nearby. Hungry for lunch or brunch on the weekends? Try Liberty Bar, offering a vast menu of favorites, from custard French toast and huevos benedictinos. The bread and butter before your meal is not to be missed!
Hot Joy brings the ramen experience to a whole new level. Filled with murals, art hanging from the ceiling and LED signs, it is difficult to find a more unique spot. Themed cocktails pair beautifully with their delectable meal offerings.
Enjoy a yummy snack (even the pooch is invited!) at the aptly-named The Friendly Spot, with its nachos, sandwiches, and cookies.
For a special occasion meal, make your reservations at Maverick Texas Brasserie (a San Antonio Magazine Best Restaurants winner).
If you simply need to satisfy a sweet tooth, don’t miss Boozy’s Creamery & Craft, which offers alcohol-infused and regular ice cream in delicious flavor combos, or Cinnaholic for absolutely decadent vegan cinnamon rolls topped with a variety of sweets.

We had a group of 10 stay for 3 nights. The location is great. The house is large and fit our group easily. Hilary was great a communicating and responding. The house could use a little TLC if you really start to look around. I know it's a very old historic house but some general touch up would be great. Check in was easy but literally you couldn't get the door code to work until exactly at 4pm. We arrived at 3:50pm and had to wait outside for 10 minutes until exactly 4pm so be aware. If I needed a place to stay with this large of a group and location I would highly recommend.
4.8
The house is nice the pool was not, but Hilary made it right. Unfortunately we didn’t get to use the clean pool because it was our last day. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
4.8
Good time for all.
4.8
Great house for a larger group in a good location to walk through a nice neighborhood to restaurants.
4.8
Amazing property within walking distance to all that San Antonio has to offer. From booking through check-out, Hillary was in contact with us to make our stay memorable. The house is close to restaurants (1 block walk) and is an oasis within the historic district.
4.8
Property manager was responsive to questions and concerns and very helpful and cordial. The location was perfect! The home was warm and comfortable. I only have two negative comments--The property is advertised as a 6 BR home. The 6th bedroom is an extension of a 5th bedroom with a door between the two rooms. It has a pullout bed that extends to the dimension of the entire room, leaving no room for walking or any furniture, or even a space to park luggage. This room, and other bedrooms do not have curtains on windows. Other than the fact that we were counting on 6 bedrooms, it was a delightful space and I can't say enough how helpful the property manger was with the 110" projector screen (which was incredibly technical and a challenge to use, even for those of us who are tech savvy).
4.8
Beautiful home with plenty of rooms. This home had a large dining area perfect for large gatherings. A nice modern touch is the large projector screen in the living room. Although the weather didn't permit, the pool area would definitely be enjoyable during the warmer months. In addition, the location of this house is in walking distance from a number of great restaurants and a short drive from downtown. Hillary is a great host with good communication and quick to ensure that our stay was well.

We came to celebrate two friends turning 50. We were a group of 10 women and we had a wonderful weekend! I have a few comments on our stay:
Pros: comfortable beds, charming historic neighborhood, great location. Our host, Hillary, was very responsive and quick to answer questions.
Cons: there was only 1 great shower. Two tubs just had a hand-held spray nozzles and the other shower (on the main level) had very weak pressure. There weren’t enough coffee cups and wine glasses (only 5 wine glasses). The wine opener was terrible (a cheap, easy fix but frustrating for us). The AC upstairs worked great (where most of the beds are) but the main level was quite hot at night and was uncomfortable for sleeping. The front door lock didn’t work properly the first two days, but Hillary was able to let us in remotely, when needed. The backyard was too dark at night. Outdoor lights would have added a lot to our ability to be outside at night. Several of the lights didn’t work inside (or we couldn’t figure out where the switches were). The large movie screen/tv projector system in the living room was complicated and we couldn’t figure out the volume. A regular tv would be SO much easier and better.
Overall, the charm of this old, historical house was lovely and the layout was functional for a large group. Hillary, the manager, was perfectly attentive. I would stay here again.

Very nice home in an area that has be renovated. Lots of history in the neighboorhood.
4.8
Great location and provided our family of 12 what we needed. Host was accommodating and responsive.
4.8
We loved the Location~ You can rent scooters and get everywhere! Tons of restaurants in walking distance! House was Great Size for our family needs and backyard was perfect for us. Only complaint was~ All Towels were in washer when we got there~ one bed was missing all bedding~ no toilet paper~ out of tons of stuff that we had to purchase like dish detergent, laundry detergent, trash bags, etc and owner had people working on pool and coming to bring linens and tp etc the whole time we were there... could have been prepared a little better for our stay. Still enjoyed it!
4.8
Great location to everything downtown plus walking distance to great restaurants.
The house is well furnished with all the necessities and more. Lots of space.
Will definitely come back!
4.8
We were a family of 12 ranging in age from 5 months to 65. The house is situated in a quiet neighborhood, within walking distance of the Riverwalk. The accommodations were very comfortable, with plenty of room for everyone. There was even a pack and play for the infant. The grandchildren really enjoyed the pool and hot tub. The kitchen had everything needed for cooking some meals at home, and this is actually the first place I’ve ever stayed that has decent cooking pans. Most places are all scratched and worn.
Manager, Hillary was wonderful to work with, and quickly handled any questions or concerns we had. I loved that a detailed manual of how everything is operated is emailed before your trip for handy reference.
Hopefully we will someday return to San Antonio.

We loved this location and this home for work and pleasure. Close to Riverwalk and S Alamo for shopping and dining. Plenty of room to spread out and a lovely backyard space with pool and jacuzzi. Plenty of space for several adults or couples to spread out. Loved the huge table in the dining room for our group to gather!
4.8
Great Property in a charming neighbourhood. Beds were nice, rooms were ample and dining room table was fabulous.
4.8
The house was charming and well appointed. Eight of us had more than enough room to sleep comfortably and spend time together in the common areas. The neighborhood was great for walking the tree lined streets to view old houses and nearby coffeehouses and close enough to walk to downtown. We loved the big dining room table for dinners and breakfast, and the back patio for evening chats. The pool and hot tub were also a big hit! We would recommend and would love to come back some day!
4.8
Property was a lot older than the pictures make it look, but overall satisfied.
4.8
We all truly enjoyed our stay! Everything was as stated or better!

I hate leaving a negative review but I definitely would not rent here again and I know different people’s level of clean vary but for the price I wanted clean!!! Overall the house is in a great location and after some deep cleaning and repairs I think it has potential but to be honest for the amount I paid I excepted what I seen in the pictures and sadly this wasn’t the case. Positives: the beds were clean and the bathrooms were clean. Negatives: The owner wanted exact birthdates which I find strange so I gave ages which they did except. They do not provide a door code until precisely the check in time which when traveling a full day I get nervous if I’ll still have cellphone battery or reception but thankfully it worked out. It would be helpful if this was provided sooner. I rent houses frequently and never had this happen before and found it odd. Then the property…. There are quite a few cameras around the property just a fyi, I don’t like feeling like I’m being watched. LOTS of different levels in floor heights, be careful not to stub your toes!! I rented primarily for the outdoor space which was filthy. I wish I could attach a few pictures for references. We got there around 4:30 and the pool person was still there, no big deal. After we got settled we went out to use it and it was filthy, lots of tiny particles floating and leaves which should not be the case when the cleaner was just there. The leaves were not the problem but the particles were definitely a concern. The porches are so dirty I had to sweep a path just to walk from the door to exit the house to the pool. The outdoor furniture, again filthy. The floors inside definitely need a good cleaning, a good mopping especially! All of which could be resolved with real cleaning. I would not recommend my friends to rent here nor would I rent again. I would definitely look to rent another property in the area because it is a great location. Again just trying to inform future renters as to the condition of the property and hopefully raise awareness… if I was paying for services at my own rental house I’d want to know if the jobs were not being done adequately.

Perfect house with great amenities for our trip, and in a wonderful location.

We loved the house and the pool / hot tub. Great location in walking distance of restaurants. The pool has a gate around it so we were able to let the kids play outside without fear they'd fall in if we weren't in the pool. Loved it!

We stayed as a group of firefighters for a convention. It was a short walk to downtown so the location was great. The house is very clean and well organized and provided the space we needed to work and have fun. The pool was amazing and clean.

This cute house is the perfect size for large families or groups. Clean and roomy. Beautiful backyard and all the screened porches makes it relaxing. We ate dinner each night in the backyard too. The location is about a 15 min walk to the Riverwalk which is safe and nice to look at all the historic homes in the King William neighborhood. Hilary, our host, was very responsive when we were confused on how to operate some appliances and find things in the house too. We would stay here again and again!
