A new, 2022, modern, artist designed, ocean front property. ArtBonavista Retreat is a contemporary design of the traditional Newfoundland Salt Box Houses. It is casual luxury with a distinct European flair. Upscale and eclectic. Filled with antiques, vintage, original art and huge windows for ocean viewing. European linens, duvets, German china, cutlery, etc. A designated working space for those of you who have to being your office along. A gas range for the chef’s at heart. ..... The pantry is stocked with basics for your use. Open complex with comfortable seating areas for lounging or watching movies on Apple TV. The Loft has a queen size bed with sea to sky view...private 1/2 bath and lots of room for yoga, Pilates, and/or whatever relaxation method you choose, plus a library of books for you to read. The main floor bedroom has a queen bed and black out curtains, the downstairs bedroom is completely private with it's own full bathroom. The house, and garden across the street is Bonavista’s best viewing spot for icebergs, whales, fishing boats heading out to sea, plus, the spectacular sunsets Bonavista is known for. Sit out front with a book, a glass of wine, or a local beer, get the firepit ready for an evening around the fire, listening to the crashing of the waves on the rocks below. We have the million dollar view.
We try to be as sustainable as possible and support local as much as possible. We “ iron in the wind “ you’ve probably seen the Newfoundland tourism ad’s of laundry on the clothes lines. Basics for you to use, locally made soaps by East Coast Glow and the fabulous salt by Newfoundland Salt Company to name a few. When in season, Doreen pops by with organic veggies you can buy directly from her. The entire house is filled with original art, much of it local, vintage and quirky "stuff". We do not charge a cleaning fee and thus ask our guests to leave the house clean and tidy please. The sunset photographs, are taken from the garden, no filter! The Bonavista Peninsula is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and there is so much to do on this wonderful peninsula. You can contact me anytime for more info. ABSOLUTELY No PETS of any kind. We had a great stay at this home. It was a comfortable home base for our trip to see the puffins. Only a 15 min drive to Elliston Puffin Viewing Site and close to many beautiful hikes and restaurants. The home was clean, pretty and had great views of the sea.

Shy to tell all cause then we’ll never get to go back! Location, cleanliness, amenities. Go for the views. Go for being in Bonavista and near other towns like Port Rexton and Trinity. Owner Ruth and the house will leave you wanting for nothin.
5.0 / 5.0
We had a very lovely stay at Ruth's home in mid-August. Her home is beautifully designed with incredible attention to detail. Lots of space, and the windows from the kitchen, living room, and loft bedroom offer stunning views of the ocean and coastline. Ruth was a terrific host, and her studio/gallery below the house is the perfect place to pick-up local artwork and gifts. We are already looking forward to our next visit. Can't say enough about this spot!

Ultra modern (recently built) property with all the latest appliances and conveniences. The owner (Ruth) is an artist and it shows in the layout, design and decor. If you are spending time in Bonavista you won’t be disappointed. The nightly sunsets from the large windows are unreal, and puffins, lighthouses, and world class hiking are close by. Don’t miss a day in historic Trinity, and the Two Whales Vegan/Vegetarian cafe comes highly recommended in Port Rexton (convenient on your way to or from the Skerwink trail).
3.0 / 5.0
Absolutely stunning views — especially the sunset — in a newly constructed and very nicely decorated space. Overall rating held back by a couple of things: lack of window coverings and an eye level street light made it tough to sleep in the loft that has 2 of the 3 beds, owner did not provide check-in information in advance and then there was confusion over the check-out time (11:00 in my confirmation vs 10:00 elsewhere in the description). It was close to lots of great activities in Bonavista but was not good value for money once you include the various fees.
