About this cabin rental

Looking for a perfect secluded cabin experience? Look no further than Roughin’ it, a cozy two bedroom / one bath rustic cabin sitting pristinely at 4700’ in the Great Smoky Mountains! This property is perfect for a romantic mountain getaway or cozy visit with friends.

This beautifully hand-built cabin is surrounded by nature. Without another cabin in sight, this vacation home sits on over 2 acres of untouched mountain terrain with your own private pond and rushing creek on property. Complete privacy awaits. Spend the day hiking and exploring the streams and waterfalls nearby and come home to enjoy a roaring fire in the fire pit by night. Or just relax on the covered porch in the swing enjoying your morning coffee or evening beverage. The peaceful location of this cabin provides the perfect environment for diving into a good book or even writing one of your own. The mountain view in fall and spring from the sunken hot tub completes the evening. You’ll feel even closer to the stars! With local wildlife all around, elk are seen walking up the driveway and around the area as well! Sound like heaven? We think so too - a perfect place to get away from all the stress and turmoil of everyday life. We do suggest a visit to the grocery and to bring what you need to stay at this mountain location because you will never want to leave!

A full cozy kitchen opens to the living room space with its comfortable oversized couch and 55” LED big screen TV with DirectTV. A gas Buck stove is used to heat the cabin and there is no air conditioning, but the mountain air is crisp and inviting. Outside, fire up the gas grill located beside the picnic table adjacent to the fire pit. There you can sizzle up some steaks as the afternoon sun slowly sets through the trees and you recall your adventures of the day.

This home has two queen bedrooms on the main floor with full bath. A loft upstairs contains two twin beds for additional sleeping room. Each bedroom contains a unique handmade queen bed and be sure to notice the tin ceilings that reflect the warmth of the home. Beautiful wide plank floors run throughout the house and a hand carved staircase leads you to the loft sleeping area, a favorite for the kids. A DVD TV with a supply of movies awaits you there.

Please note the road to this cabin from the main road is an off-road rustic experience and roads getting up to cabin are graveled, steep and bumpy. Money will not be refunded due to improper vehicles, due to not being able to get to cabin. This means no sport cars, hybrids, front wheel drive mini vans or sedans, motorcycles or trailers. Four-wheel drive vehicles only. This is a dog friendly property, It is the guest's responsibility to contact the property manager at Maggie Mountain Vacations as there is an additional non-refundable pet fee, not included in the base rent. Unauthorized pets on property will incur a $300 per pet penalty. No cats or other pets are accepted. Exterior security cameras are on premise.

Just a few minutes’ drive to the heart of Maggie Valley, Cataloochee Ski Area (known for being one of the first ski resorts in the US to open each year), Tube World (snow tubing), Wheels Through Time (a historic motorcycle museum featured on the History Channel's “American Pickers”), horseback riding and golfing. In about 25 minutes, you could be in Waynesville at Ingles and Publix grocery stores, Walmart or head to Main Street in Waynesville and enjoy additional shopping, dining, and sightseeing.

This home is only a short drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and Harrah's Cherokee Casino (even if you do not gamble, Harrah's has some of the best restaurants around), Pisgah National Forest, several golf courses, and just west of Cherokee is Bryson City (home of the Great Smoky Mountain Railway and “Polar Express” during the Christmas Holiday).

A little more than 50 minutes away, you’ll arrive in Asheville at the Biltmore Estate & Winery (America's largest and most visited privately-owned home), many great restaurants and micro-breweries, and 1 hour and 30 minutes away is Transylvania County (home of the most waterfalls in the United States), and over 100 Antique Shops.

Approximately, 1 hour away heading south to Hendersonville, you can visit Sierra Nevada Brewery (with their enormous dining and Tap Room), gem mining, white water rafting, zip-lining and much more in the surrounding areas. You are just under 1 hour 35 minutes to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee (home of Dollywood).

Booked for a little couples getaway and mental recharge. Overall, the cabin had all the amenities we needed to be comfortable, but wasn’t really what we expected or were looking for. Cabin had a very moldy smell. I ended up getting sick the day we left. Furniture is very old and run down, however bed was comfortable. MUST have a good AWD/4WD vehicle to get up to the cabin. Road up was extremely rough. I would never go in winter, even with a good car. Pond was over sold. It was a ditch with water. Also check in process was a pain. We had to drive to the rental office to pick up directions that could have been emailed and would have saved time and gas. Also, you have to remove your own trash, which was also annoying at the end of a trip when you just want to head out. The rental office was not on our way home, so we were stuck with trash on the drive home. That be a major pain if staying more than a long weekend. Views from the cabin were nothing to ride home about. However, that being said, we still enjoyed our trip and made the best of it. The purpose was to spend time together and go off the grid, and that we did. Cabin area was quiet and secluded. Hot tub was older, but clean and relaxing. Kitchen was well stocked with cooking items. If you do go, must visit Maggie Valley Sandwich shop. It was delicious. Publix grocery store wasn’t too far and was also close to the start of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Soco falls.

Privacy at its finest! Cozy cute cabin with almost everything you need. Missed having washer and dryer and an iron and ironing board would be great additions also! WIFI did not work during our stay. So peaceful on the porch morning and evening! Had a wonderful time!

My wife and I really enjoyed our 3 day getaway at Roughin it. We loved the privacy and peace and quiet. It was clean, bed was comfortable. Kitchen was adequately equipped We would recommend it, especially if you like quiet The following are not complaints, just some things we noticed, that others might like to be aware of. The directions getting to the property could use another sign where you turn off of the "main dirt road". There are other properties listed for the turn, but not roughin it, so we missed it. You should probably have a AWD or 4WD to get there-especially if raining or snow. Cable TV and Internet are pretty slow. TV was pretty much unwatchable-as it was "rebooting" way more often than actual watching. If you have kids, KEEP AN EYE on them while they might be near the hot tub area. There are no railing under the bench seats, and kids can easily fall off the deck. Our dog actually did fall off-but was not hurt.

We stayed at the Roughin It cabn. The cabin smelled of mold and mildew, but the loft smelled the worst. There were dog hairs in the bed of the first bedroom The bed in the other bedroom smelled of human spit or slobber. We killed 3 spiders in cabin. We left after 3 nights. Would appreciate the damage deposit returned to us. If there had been access to a washer and dryer, I would have left the bedding and towels clean.
