About this house rental
The House Above the Beach
3 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom home features a beautiful ocean view on a quaint street on Douglas Island. Minutes from the extensive Treadwell Trail system, Sandy Beach & local restaurants. Walk a few minutes south on the Treadwell Trail and see an active eagle’s nest amongst a healthy second-growth forest. Walk two doors north to a staircase that will take you down to Savikko Park and Sandy Beach.
Built in 1936, this 2200 square foot home was redesigned by an architect and fully renovated in 2021. Capturing the original craftsman character while incorporating modern elements, this home features a gourmet kitchen with Bosche appliances, radiant in-floor heat, large picture windows, and a master ensuite with a shower room and air tub. Enjoy the oversized couches while you drink in the view of the Gastineau Channel. This home features a collection of original native art that captures the cultural beauty and talent of Alaska’s first people.
Master Suite: split king bed with an adjustable base, full-sized mirror, large dresser, smart TV, mid century modern furniture. And – the master bathroom! Double sinks, private toilet room & beautiful shower with an air tub.
Kitchen: quartz countertops, modern cabinetry, undercabinet lighting, and a large pantry make for an easy-to-use, hard-to-not-enjoy culinary experience. This kitchen has everything you need to host dinner for a few or for many. The island has two comfy stools to make meal preparation a social experience, and the expanding dining table can accommodate eight dinner guests. The half-bath off the kitchen makes hosting dinner parties even more comfortable.
Living room: The large picture windows frame the teal waters of the channel where you can watch the tide come in & go out. The couches are big enough to snuggle up with your sweetie and enjoy the view, or watch a good movie after the sun goes down. Smart TV, midcentury modern furniture and an open floor plan make this space easy to enjoy. Live-edge accents from nearby Hoonah compliment the living area.
Downstairs bedroom 1: queen bed with new foam mattress, walk-in closet with sliding barn door, and a large loveseat to enjoy quiet time to yourself. The ocean view from the bed will make you never want to close the blinds.
Downstairs bedroom 2: two twin XL beds make this room great for kids or the single travelers of the group. A dresser, small closet with storage, and a nook make the space fun for little people or a good spot to store luggage.
Downstairs utility room: new washer and dryer set, deep utility sink, and a full bathroom for the downstairs guests. The cabinets store extra linens for your group. Please be aware of the low ceilings in this area of the home.
There are areas in the home that have been designed to provide privacy to the homeowners. Please respect the locked areas.
Other items worth noting:

We really enjoyed this house! Amazing view and location.

Booked early due to limited options the week of July 4th in JNU. I was notified the reservation was being cancelled, just prior to coming to Alaska, and was unable to find other options. Dream trip turned nightmare. Do not trust this VRBO

We were there for 4 days with family. The house doesn't look like a gem from the street, but trust me, walk in and you'll see how amazing it is. Clean, light, well furnished, and some of the best organized supplies and cabinets I have ever seen. We ended up cooking in the kitchen a couple nights while there, it had everything we needed. The main bedroom is off the kitchen on the main floor, while the other two bedrooms are on the bottom floor. Our kids essentially declared they were sleeping upstairs with us on the comfy couches, so we managed to turn a 3 bedroom house into a 1 bedroom condo... but it was lovely nonetheless. Great laundry facilities on lower level. Very close to walk down to Savikko Beach which we did once, but was raining a lot so we didn't end up spending too much time there. Very close to trailheads as well. Maybe 20 mins from airport, just a touch longer to Mendenhall Glacier. Needless to say, we loved it. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.
Special shoutout to the owner, one day the electronic door keypad stopped working - she texted back and forth with me re: what to do, she already had spare batteries in the pantry ready to go, took about 10 minutes to fix it, then we were good to go again.

We stayed in this beautiful beach house for 6 nights. The home is impeccable, has great amenities, fantastic location and is quite spacious. Host was easy to communicate with before, during and after our trip. We had a wonderful stay and the house has everything you’d need for a quick getaway or a longer stay. We can’t wait to come back and will book this property next time we’re in Juneau.

We spent a week at this property and it was delightful! The location was fantastic-it was fun to watch the cruise ships come in and out, and watch the changing tide. Interesting trails and access to the beach were steps away. The inside of the home was very comfortable, the kitchen well-stocked, the Wi-Fi up to date and able to handle our needs. There really weren’t any problems while we were there, which was even better. I also liked the welcome binder-I honestly did feel welcomed into their home, and the fact that they gave permission to use basic items that were there was so kind. I HIGHLY recommend this property and these hosts!

The place was very nice awesome view just had
Some trouble getting in and the beds weren’t made due to miscommunication with cleaner that was tough getting in at 1am which is 5am in our minds. The only thing needed is a blow dryer in the second bathroom it was well equipped with laundry and kitchen supplies

We come to Juneau for work on occasion and will stay here from now on. The house is beautiful and recently updated. (You do need to like firm beds though.) Owner was very responsive.
The view of the channel in the morning is amazing. And the area is perfect. Short walk to the Treadwell trails/beach and Mt. Jumbo. You can also walk into the town to the Island Pub which is nice. Overall great stay and perfect location.
4.7
Great view! The home was very well done with everything we needed. The location was perfect, a bit away from the busy downtown with access to the beach, but close enough to everything to enjoy our time there.
4.7
Our stay was really great. It rained a lot the week we were on Douglas, so it gave us an opportunity to really enjoy the house. Description of the house was accurate. Easy access to restaurants, groceries, fishing, hiking, and sightseeing. House had everything we needed and wanted.

Cool view and Good overall
We all enjoyed watching the salmon jump and cruise ships come and go. Floor levels make some stairs in the home? And they can be a tripping issue for some people. The downstairs rooms were cooler than we wanted but that was minor. The garbage was a little of a pain because we were supposed to use a dumpster across the street but it disappeared for a couple days. Overall we liked it a lot and would stay there again.

House was very clean and had beautiful views. Across the channel from downtown and you can walk to the water.
