Merveilleuse semaine

Clean cosy house in Mazamet
My husband, me and our 2 children (9 & 10) had a very good time in Mazamet. We went for 10 days and had a very active holiday! We crossed the Passerelle to Hautpoul, a worthwile walk/climb from the house to the old town of Hautpoul. We visited the lake de Montagnes for a swim, a beautiful place for swimming and relaxing, if you don't mind the rocky underground in the water ;). We went canoeing and even went fishing for trout in Gourp de la Loutre, what an adventure catch the fish, cleaning it with the nice owners and grilling it on the BBQ the same evening! A visit to Carcasonne (+- 45min drive) is interesting if you have some money to spend in the many many souvenirshops restaurants and extra activities (the Chevalerie was definitely worth the entrance fee).
All in alle we had a great stay in Felicity's garden, but it is advisable to find activities outdoors every day. Despite the beauty and cosiness of the small oasis in the town of Mazamet, it was not really an option to stay near the house fot a whole day: without a swimming pool or the space to run around for the children, we needed to find something to do every day (which made our vacation interesting, but a little more expensive than we anticipated ;)
To sum up, Felicity was incredibly kind (she even had some food and drinks for us in the fridge on our day of arrival!), the house was clean and completely equiped with everything we needed, and if you kept the shutters closed during the day, it was cool enough inside without airconditioning. We had a lovely holiday, but just maybe next time we will try to find a place where it is also possible to stay put and relax without extra outdoor activities.

An oasis near the Black Mountains!
We had a lovely week in the gîte tucked away with its secret garden in Mazamet. Thank you so much Felicity and Martin for all your help. A perfect week weather wise and trips to Carcassonne, Lastours and the nearby lake were greatly enjoyed as was the day out to a nearby vintage car rally and car boot sale where we were the only Brits!

Lovely little Gîte in a great location
We loved our stay at Felicity and Martin’s lovely little Gîte in Mazamet. Great location - easy walking distance to the town centre and lovely waking paths along the river nearby. The Gîte was quiet and comfortable and it was great to have washing and cooking facilities. Our daughters loved the little garden and all in all we had a great stay.

Lovely gite - just like it looks on the web
The gite was perfect for us - fully equipped kitchen, excellent broadband and in excellent order throughout. It is ideally situated for parking and access to shops in Mazamet. It made a great centre for exploring the area and there are some lovely walks nearby. Felicity was a lovely host, giving good advice on what to see and where to eat.

Having enjoyed a brilliant fortnight last Summer we promised ourselves that we would return and we werent disappointed.Felicity and Martin welcomed us in the wonderful way with a lovely spread of fresh, local produce, home made jam and immaculately presented accommodation. We took the opportunity to return to previously enjoyed locations such as the peaceful mountain lake at Pradelles and family orientated, yet relaxing lake at Les Montagnes; medieval Hautpoul ( worth the climb for the views ) and river-boating at Castres. Charming Mazamet has changed little and we revisited the lovely tea room Aux Saveurs delAutan and newly opened Mets & Plaisirs restaurant for quality food and wine at very reasonable price. Along with the regular market days, a first for us was The Producteurs market on a Monday evening. Many local food and wine producers bring their wares to the Square and youre invited to buy and enjoy your purchases including freshly cooked trout and baked camembert on the previously set out tables and chairs. Its a wonderful atmosphere!Theres always something of interest going on in and around the town - the Fireworks on the lake celebrating Bastille Day; the town as a Stage point on the Regions three day Car Rally and this year the thrill of the Tour De France passing through and onwards and upwards to the Pic de Nore on their way to Carcassonne. So whether its all of the above, cycling on the disused railway path, mountain walking among the forests or just enjoying some rest and relaxation, the Gite Wisteria is the perfect place to stay.

A Most Delightful and Relaxing Holiday in Mazamet
We were made to feel at home as soon as we arrived for a month in August. Just the right walking distance to center for a little exercise while enjoying the outdoor markets, boulangeries, fromageries and cafes in the mornings. Very peaceful in the beautiful gardens with a view of the Montagne Noire in background. The cosy kitchen was perfect for eating in times and Felicity was more than generous both in sharing the bounty from her garden with luscious tomatoes and in sharing good tips on restaurants in the area. We took advantage of the AugustGuitar Festival in the little villages in the Montagne Noire as well as in the Cafe Plum in Lautrec nearby which Felicity again informed us about. Due to the warm evenings, the fan in the main bedroom should be utilized! We will definitely recommend this gite to our friends. My husband, who is a swimmer, learned of a lake 12 minutes from the gite up the mountain where he could swim and we could hike. All in all, a memorable experience!

Perfect holiday experiece
We stayed two weeks in Mazamet and explored the mountain area nearby as well as a number of nature and historical places around. The gite and the garden were just everything one wishes of a holiday home. Amenities of Mazamet such as bakery, butcherie etc. were just around the corner. Our hostess was very helpfull and provided us valuable information of the places worth visiting in the area. We fully agree with all the positive comments posted by the previous guests and highly recommend the Villa Wisteria for all those who look forward to a combination of an active holiday and a relaxing stay in a beautiful environment.

Gite Wisteria - Perfect!
After two weeks of hillside rambling, rest and relaxation we fell in love with this Gite and this area of France. Felicity and Martin made us so welcome and provided lots of helpful advice regarding scenic walks and local events. The three-times weekly market is a delight for self- caterers with a couple of nearby supermarkets for everything else. A boulangerie is just five minutes walk away for your freshly baked morning croissants!
The cottage is very well appointed and whether taking breakfast or returning from a day out, has a lovely private garden to relax in.
The Tourist Information Office is very helpful for printed walking routes in English. Recommended excursions are to Carcassonne ( Old City ); Castres ( Goya Museum ); Revel ( Market ); Labrugiere and Soreze Medieval towns. There are plenty of hilly (some challenging! ) walks e.g up to Hautpoul but worth the effort for the fantastic views and beautiful landscapes. Also recommended are the nearby Lac de la Montagne Noir and the Lake at La Pradelles. For cyclists there is an easy ride along the Voie Verte, a flat disused railway track from Mazamet with charming villages along the way.
Felicity and Martin provided lots of maps and information and with their local knowledge there will be no doubt visitors will see the best of everything the area has to offer, while enjoying being 'at home' in the cottage. We'll be back!

Superb gite
We found the gite to be charming and of a very high standard. It is situated in a beautiful secluded garden and instantly felt welcoming. It was a delight to return to after a day's sightseeing. Inside it was spotless, homely and extremely well appointed with many extras indicating the thoughtfulness of Felicity and Martin. We found the gite to be perfectly positioned for day trips. Everything you require for self catering can be found in Mazamet with a baker and butcher to be found close by. The view from the south facing rooms is of a wooded hillside indicating the proximity of the countryside and walks. Felicity and Martin were very welcoming after we arrived late and the basket of goodies was exceptional. They were perfect hosts, only too willing to help and offer advice and guidance but never intrusive.

A little treasure
Our hosts were most accommodating, after a delayed flight, arriving at 2am, it was lovely to see a friendly face. The accommodation was just perfect, very comfortable bed, beautiful garden, exactly what we needed for an escape to the south of France. Well positioned, close to centre of town with a boulangerie and charcuterie 50m up the road. We had a great stay, thank-you. Look forward to seeing you again in Oct.

Tranquility
Need to spend time contemplating life and allow the Universe to bring you peace and beauty? Then look no further for you have found the perfect place
Wake up to the dawn chorus and know your day has started right - open the French doors onto a secluded sunken sheltered garden and enjoy breakfast in privacy and the sound of the nearby mountain stream.
This is the typical French Gite, everything you require, without out the modernity of a modern hotel but the character and spirit of comfort.
Expectations are met, as the owners have prepared the Gite with you in mind, clean and tidy with that gentle unassuming touch that makes you know you are being welcomed.
This couple are just as friendly as you require without intrusion but so helpful if you need advise from walks to restaurants. You only have to ask and nothing is too much trouble
If you are a walker then boot up and set off, you are in for a treat for the rolling foothills provide walks for everyone
Highly recommended – Five Star Gite – can’t wait to come back
