About this house rental
This charming former tavern and stage coach inn makes the perfect four season getaway. You'll feel like you've taken over your own private New England B&B. Enjoy everything the Berkshires has to offer from the shops and restaurants in Great Barrington, music and cultural events of Tanglewood to the north and great skiing at Butternut ski resort which is within walking distance of the house.
Known locally as the Turning Point Inn, the main part of the house was built in 1850 and has a long history as a stage coach inn, local tavern and more recently a bed and breakfast. The layout is perfect for family gatherings when you want to be able to stay together but have your own private rooms to retreat to at night. It is conveniently located near many hiking trails (notably the Appalachian trail crosses nearby), waterfalls, swimming holes, parks, music festivals in the summer, and of course Butternut Ski resort just down the main road. Enjoy the great outdoors , downtown Great Barrington, or just a quiet night with good friends and family around the stove in a cozy dining room.
This beautiful historic house features 7 fully furnished bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, 3 of which are ensuite. Each bedroom has it's own separate key and locking doors for added privacy. The main common spaces are spacious yet cozy, each possessing it's own unique charm. There is a family room with a wood burning stove and television with Chromcast and DVD player with a wide selection of DVDs. The sitting room has a working fireplace and maintains much of it's original character and decoration. The dinning room is cozy yet can comfortably accommodate 15 people with plenty of space to spare. As a former Bed and Breakfast the house is equipped with a commercial kitchen that includes a Viking stove and oven, coffee maker, toaster, water heater, microwave, dishwasher, large restaurant grade sink and professional cookware. We stock all the plates, bowls, cups and flatware you will need to entertain large groups. There is also a laundry room with a full size washer dryer.
During the summer months the main floor remains cool during the day with the stone and wood floors tempered by the cool evenings and mountain breezes. In the winter you can use the wood burning stove in the family room and the gas stove in the dining room. The fireplace in the sitting room is unfortunately under maintenance and not available for use at this time. The bedrooms on the second floor have their own air conditioners and individual smart heating controls to accommodate everyone's temperature preference. The house itself is nestled on 1 wooded acre with a large lawn. There is an outdoor picnic table where you can enjoy a glass of wine in the evening or your morning coffee.
Please note that this is an old house built in the early 19th century. Things are worn and there are many imperfections. If you are looking for a brand new renovated experience, this may not be the house for you, but if you are looking for a clean large space with plenty of private bedrooms and bathrooms suitable for a large group of people and having a fun time then this is the place for you.
We really fell in love with this house the moment we saw it and we know you will too. We look forward to hosting and sharing this special place with you!

It was a quirky and interesting house!

We were 11 seniors ages 74-84 and we found the house to be spacious and comfortable for all. It does have some minor peculiarities like a bedroom without a door but overall it is great for a group. The large kitchen and Diningroom table provided ample space for both prep and eating together.
If it is very hot out, all the window AC’s cannot all be used at once or it blows the breaker . The owner was quick to respond however and show us how to reset it.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay. And would recommend it for a group as long as you don’t require everything to be new and perfect. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere.

This big, homey house was just right for 1 set of grandparents, 3 adult children, and their partners and kids. There was space to play outside, a big kitchen with lots of prep space, and lots of books and games. Decor and furniture were sturdy and kid-friendly. Everything was decorated for Christmas, which was an unexpected nice touch.

Place easily fit our group. And gave us all enough space for privacy if needed. House is on the older end but everything was clean and in working order.

We are a group of seven longtime friends who get together annually in the fall. The Turning Point provided an ideal setting for a long weekend: a bedroom for each of us, an incredibly well-stocked kitchen, and charming, inviting common spaces where we could gather. The location was convenient to both Great Barrington and Stockbridge, and we took advantage of several local attractions: downtown Great Barrington, Naumkeag, the Guthrie Center, and Body and Soul Spa. Everyone agreed that the Turning Point was absolutely perfect!

11 Brothers and sisters and spouses spent a long weekend up here and the house suited our needs perfectly. The host, Mike, was very responsive to our needs. We would definitely use this house again when we are in the area again!!

The house was perfect for our family trip. It was extremely spacious for 4 families (8 adults/6 kids); never felt cramped with all the rooms. Generous with towels; games and puzzles to keep us occupied when it rained; had a whole area in backyard set for s'mores and even saw they offered the marshmallows, crackers and chocolate to go with it. Very clean and quaint. Kids loved playing the piano (some of them learned heart and soul while we were there:). The host Mike checked in to make sure everything was going ok and responded immediately with any questions. Would highly recommend for a pleasant stay in the Berkshires!

My family, ranging from my wife and I down to three grandchildren three and under, used Turning Point as our home base for the nearby wedding of a family niece. It was the perfect choice! Plenty of bedrooms, enough space on the ground floor that the small grandchildren (and their parents) could take over the living room, I would work in the "office" and others could hang out in the dining room and kitchen. Perfect location in between Great Barrington and the location of the wedding. The check-in and check-out process could not have been easier, the kitchen is extremely well equipped, and everything was totally clean. We would highly recommend Turning Point for either a large family gathering, or a group of friends.

We had a wonderful time with family and friends. The location was great and it was helpful for everyone to have their own bathroom. Kitchen was well stocked and toys for kids was a bonus.

Cool old BnB converted to an rental property. Great for large parties, like we had. Literally a walk to Butternut! Only thing that could be better - if it were tucked a little further in from the main road would be cool.

We were 4 families of coworkers(14 people total). We stayed here last year with previous owners. The new owner Mike was wonderful. Easy to get ahold of and prompt with questions. Check in/out is a breeze. Location to Ski Butternut is priceless. Plenty of rooms/beds, each family had their own bathroom and extra to spare. The mud room with heat, is great for all of our ski gear. We love the rustic, eclectic, old charm and taxidermy in the house. Books, board games and TV in living room. The large dining table was great for our group. The yard was perfect for kids to play. The group would definitely return again.

3 families with kids stayed at this HUGE house this past weekend (total 14 people total). There were so many rooms that we joked that we were constantly lost in the house. There were enough beds for everyone and then some. The house was super clean and had all of the amenities for every age including games, art and puzzles for the little ones. Any minor issues in the house were immediately taken care of by the owner. I would definitely recommend staying here.

We rented this house for our large immediate family for our son's wedding. Upon entering we immediately felt transported back in time to the old world charm of a historic bed and breakfast. Wandering through the different rooms, peeking behind the many different doors, taking in the eclectic decor and the old photographs, taxidermy, and knick knacks was quite interesting in a fun way. There were plenty of bedrooms for us to all have our own space and bedrooms. The listing isn't completely clear but there are 6 bedrooms upstairs with 5 bathrooms. Three bedrooms have an ensuite bathroom. Two bedrooms share a bathroom but one of those is the room with the bunk beds. The last bedroom is downstairs and has its own bathroom across the hall. There is a half bath off the kitchen along with a washer and dryer. This layout suited our needs perfectly. There were two sitting rooms, a room with desks and a very large dining room with a piano! This was great as we had the groomsmen eating and getting ready at the house (and a videographer and photographer). We didn't cook in the kitchen as there was no time, but it was very well equipped. The house was clean and there were plenty of towels. There were also extra linens, blankets and pillows tucked away behind some of the little doors. There was also room to park 6 or 7 cars. Mike was very helpful and responded quickly to any questions we had. Overall it was a great place to have had for these important memories! Thanks Mike!

We rented this house for our wedding weekend, to stay in with all of our friends of honor. It felt exactly like having an entire old-style bed and breakfast to ourselves. Every bedroom was cozy and lovely, and each was well-suited to a couple, with some having space for an extra person as well. There were ample bathrooms for everyone. The kitchen was great for cooking for a large group. We were able to serve dinner for about 20 people (some of whom were staying at a different house) one evening. There was so much space to hang out that even with that many people in it, it never felt crowded, and there was plenty of room for privacy and for multiple small groups to hang out separately as well. There is a big backyard to spend time in as well. The location is a short drive to the center of Great Barrington, which has shops, grocery stores, restaurants, etc., but the house definitely feels like you're in the country. The owners were very responsive to questions and helpful.
The house feels old and funky and interesting, with lots of old photographs, taxidermy, and other historic touches. I would note that if you have severe dust allergies or asthma, this is probably not a good fit for you -- there is a old of old upholstery (including upholstered walls in several of the bedrooms) which is just inherently going to hold onto dust. However, the house is clean and well cared-for overall. There were plenty of clean towels, linens, etc. for a large group. Many of the bedrooms have window AC units, although even in August we really didn't need them.
Overall, this is a cozy, fun, and spacious house ideal for a large group!
