My stay was terrific as usual. Best location for my activities. Best Old Fashioned. Comfortable bed and room temperature. Shower worked great.

Very nice. Good coffee and snacks at the restaurant express stop on lobby level and Starbucks on street level -- great location right near red line L and only a block from blue line to O'Hare airport.

Sleeping quarters were fine. Staff was friendly. Cleanliness not an issue. Bathroom was small and outdated. Service at check-in was awful, as was the availability of elevators. Waited almost thirty minutes to check in, and at least twenty minutes to get an elevator from the 15th floor to the street to make my final departure from the hotel. There were two convention groups at the hotel, but I can’t escape concluding that the Palmer House’s best days are behind it. It was certainly over-matched by the demands on it while I was there. Finally, the new mandatory “resort fee” was a rude shock and, in my view, totally uncalled for. The need for staff to explain it over and over to incoming guests at check-in had to be one of the reasons why that process was so slow and unpleasant. I have many fond memories of past stays at this Chicago landmark hotel, but have neither the wish nor the intention ever to go back there.

My bathroom was really dirty w/ hair and scraps of toilet paper all over the ground

Although the hotel is very nice and historic our room was a little run down, small, specially the bathroom.
Some drawers didn't open and some outlets didn't work. The second courtain could not be raised.
beds and pillows were great and also the daily room keeping.

We were able to check in early as I prepaid. The room was adequate. The bathroom was small. The building was beautiful. We had a very nice time. We felt it was a bit speedy due to the Chicago marathon going on.

In town for Marathon. Hotel inside is beautiful- rooms are so small and rates were
Unbelievably high.

Service was not good. Very long lines to get help in person or on the phone.

We stayed there on a Saturday night that was very busy at this hotel...a couple of weddings, lots of people, but the service was great no matter how busy it was. We had a great time!

Great hotel. Room very large but very tired.

very nice hotel. however, we had issues with our toilet in the hotel. weak flush and sometimes the water would keep running, making sound.
loved their gymy - very nice. pelotons and all sorts of equipment. open 24 hours.

We love this hotel! We've stayed here numerous times over the years and it has never disappointed! This time we got an upgrade to the top floor and we had a big room with a great view of the city! The location was perfect for everything we wanted to do during our stay.

Hotel is dated and feels understaffed. The building is grand and was once a grand hotel. That is no more. Stay felt like a stay at a college dormitory. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom is cheap and dated. AC makes the room smell like mildew and mold.
My tub did not drain on first day. The cleaning staff left their spray bottle in my sink as a gift I guess. None of the sockets in the room can hold on to a plug!
On top of it they charge a $25 daily fee that is useless to most travelers. I will take a cup of coffee and/or a coffee maker which the room did not have.
One positive thing, nice modern gym.

This is a classic hotel in a great location with a beautiful lobby. Unfortunately our standard king room was small, and showed clear signs of neglect. The view from the window was very poor, and the hallway ceilings had staining and water damage. For what we paid (including a mandatory “resort fee”) I expected much better. I don’t plan to stay here again.

What a beautiful, historic building! We didn’t have time to use the pool or fitness facilities but would have loved to. The fitness center basically has a full gym. Our room was spacious; my only complaint was that our sage did not work. Regardless we will stay here again the next time we are in Chicago.

Place is iconic, some of the staff were very polite and nice, others had an attitude, should had some supervisors from time to time

Hotel is elegant but dated, as are the rooms. The express elevator to floor 22 is great, with no wait time, but the rooms are small even on the exec floor and not modern lookig at all. I also didn't appreciate walking the gauntlet of sales reps schlepping the Hilton packages as we were checking out. That's too much "Buy a Time share" sales pitch for a first rate hotel, and why I gave you only 3 stars. Also, $60 a day parking is nuts. If I had known, I would have slept in my car at that rate.......

First off great location being right on so many L lines. Hotel is old and showing its age with scuffed floors and chipped paint. Bed was good, cleaning seevice in the rooms was great, I’d stay again for location but for the price and condition I might also look elsewhere with L access.

Our stay was fantastic rooms were nice size closets refrigerator. Love the old Nostalgia of all the old timers who played and sang at the Empire dining room. Very close to all the activities restaurants Michigan Avenue it was great only thing and I guess that's typical of Chicago Downtown parking not provided except for valet $80 a day ridiculous or down the street $55 a day in and out okay of the parking in addition to that they charge $25 plus tax a day some kind of fee for what I don't know on top of your hotel stay.

Dirty, shabby, loud

The bathroom was dirty - old toothpaste wiped on the vanity, dirty towel hanging on the door, and the room was shabby. Won’t be going back.

I loved the Palmer, the staff were super nice and the ambience at the lounge is fantastic. Overall, I had a great experience and will make this my new hotel of choice for Chicago.

Beautiful hotel in a great location for exploring the city. the line to check in was an hour long and the food at the restaurant was not the best. But there are plenty of options to choose from around the hotel.

The room needed repairs. Wallpaper peeling off every wall, tv did not turn on, bathroom fan didn’t work so pink mold around all faucets and tub, tile cracked in tub. The room needed a lot of love at a rate of almost $300 a night.

I stayed at the Palmer House for the first time on 8/24/2024 for an overnight stay. Love the hotel. The breakfast at the Lakewood Restaurant was very good.
The room was very nice and comfortable. The only issue is the bathroom was so small that the door hit the toilet when closing the door. The tub sides were tall to the point I did not feel comfortable stepping into it. I have physical limitations. Next time I stay here, I will make sure I book an ADA compliant room.

It's been awhile since I stayed at Palmer House Hotel, but I was shocked at the current condition of the hotel. Lobby and entry looked well enough, but hallways and our guestroom were shabby and in need of maintenance. I know this is a historic hotel and that is one of the draws of the place for me. Historic should not equal run down however. Peeling wall paper, a tear in the carpet of our hotel room large enough to cause me to trip and fall, lights not working, a toilet that ran constantly -- mechanical and maintenance issues that make a stay uncomfortable/unpleasant.
Front desk staff were lovely -- especially Tashera at check-in. Valet parking staff were great also.
Housekeeper started trying to access our room at 8:30 am day of check-out. We explained we would be out of the room before 10am and she could have it then. She entered or attempted to enter 4 more times after that, which made it difficult to finish preparing and packing up efficiently. The final time she entered was when we had left the DND sign on and took our luggage down to Valet to store in our car. When we returned to our room the Housekeeper was in the room, throwing out our breakfasts and coffee and collecting the belongings we had left in the room needed for meetings later in the day. It wasn't even 10am and we hadn't checked out!
We were considering Palmer House for future events, but given the condition of the guest areas and behavior of housekeeping, we've removed it from our list.

It was fine, which is not what I want for nearly $400/night. It’s been 20 years since my last time here, and the “luxury” is in lobby aesthetics only. Instead of offering services to empower customers to spend more, they now are nickel and diming customers. The room was small and the wallpaper was peeling, but the location was great. If you can get a room for $200, it might be worth it. For more, I would check other options and make a point to visit to see the lobby.

We like The Palmer House in Chicago and stay there regularly. The “spa fee” cheapens the experience and leaves a bad taste—it feels as if you’ve been manipulated.

Access to Millennium Park and the Art Institute of Chicago and all both provide the visitor. Walkable! Also, local public transportation to the Field Museum, Planetarium and Aquarium, as well as Soldier Field. Very personable front doorman for directions and taxis.
Room not cleaned one day causing a downgrade in service rating.

No safe smoking area too big. No maps of property. Room service was severely limited. Can’t get coffee in morning for my time zone. My room cleaner was the only smile I recieved all week.

Check in line was horrible

This location is perfect to get to and do everything you want near Millenium park and Soldier Field. Lots of good food options in the area. Staff was very kind to us. They are constantly fixing things while we were there to make it better. Painting, ect. To-go brownies were definitely old.

A classic hotel with character. Seemed overpriced at over $530/night (inc. taxes and mandatory fees), for a basic room, but Chicago is expensive. Our room was small and underwhelming (perhaps because it included a handicap-accessible bathroom), with a "view" of an alley.

Amazing people, location, wonderful hotel. I stayed there for Lollapalooza and it was so close to Grant Park, that was a nice surprise. The kindness of the staff was wonderful, from Ashante at check in to the truly sweet housekeepers that checked on us daily. Everything was a step above expectations and it was a fantastic hotel overall. I would happily stay there again!

Gorgeous hotel in the heart of everything! Great service from all staff and excellent amenities!

The hotel was really nice, the associates were also very friendly and accommodating. 12/10 would recommend.

There was no soap or body gel in the shower.
4.0
The tub sounded like you could fall through at any moment when you stepped in, out or around in it. Walls were very thin and we unfortunately had a room right next to elevator. Guests were loud in middle of night. They started doing work outside our room early Monday morning which sounded like banging. Check in took forever, over an hour. Extremely close to all the Chicago things though and pleasant otherwise.

Aside from a couple free water bottles at check in, we stood in line 45 minutes to check in, refillable shower products were all empty, peeling wallpaper in the bathroom, no counter space in bathroom - high cost of accommodations for a low quality experience. Digital checkin on hotels.com did not work either.
