This was a great out-of-the way location. The beach was walkable both directions. The pool and surrounding area was new and great. Fantastic to be able to take the free shuttle to Hanalei for dinner. Just a lovely vacation spot.

The staff was friendly and professional. The room was very spacious, clean, and accomodating. We really enjoyed having two restrooms, the kitchen and the layout. We were very close to the shuttle stop to go to the Kalalau Trails which was an added bonus.

Loved my stay at Hanalei Colony Resort. Property buildings and interiors are showing signs of wear and should be updated given the cost to stay there.

Absolutely gorgeous property, amazing view, incredibly friendly and welcoming staff. Highly recommend for a low-key, island-vibe retreat.
Provides shuttle service to town, any restaurants to choose from.

Fantastic. I can’t imagine a better place to stay on Kauai. Our room could not have been closer to the ocean or had a better view. It was tranquil, peaceful, and perfect for our getaway.

Our room got upgraded to the ocean view room because it was our anniversary, and it was absolutely amazing! I love waking up to the sound of waves and the view of the ocean, and the room itself was so big and spacious, and it included its own kitchen. The front desk people were also so helpful and recommended a lot of attractions to us, which I absolutely appreciate. I would definitely come back here if I were coming back to visit Kauai.

LOVED IT ALL!!

A beautiful location and property. Wonderful pool area and amazing beachfront experience. Watching the sunrise and sunset over the ocean at the beach was fantastic.
They have a shuttle service that is included in your stay, making it very easy to drink responsibly in town and come back safely. Or go to one of the nearby beaches where parking is nearly impossible.
The room was homey, well supplied with the basics, includes beach chairs and umbrella, and has great airflow. However, we did encounter massive cockroaches (2-3 inches long approximately) near the kitchen area. We know animals are a part of the experience when visiting the garden isle. The geckos seen on the balcony were fun. And the kittens on the property were very cute.
Another animal experience were the American bullfrogs that cover the area. The noise they make at night is loud and constant. A sound similar to a washing machine running in the next room. It’s impractical to close the windows and doors because of the weather, so bring earplugs.
There were multiple power outages at the resort during our stay, luckily, we were either just about to leave or it happened at night when we were asleep, so it didn’t affect us too much.
The service was great, when available. The office is not open at night, and sometimes is not open during posted hours. Although everyone was very accommodating, very welcoming, and super friendly.
If you’re looking to be in nature and get away, this is the right place.

Incredibly peaceful and enjoyable! The most relaxing vacation spot we have ever stayed at! We WILL return to this little Paradise!

We stayed at the Hanalei Colony Resort and loved every minute of it. We loved how perfect my placed on the North Shore it is, surrounded by picturesque views pretty much anywhere you look. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, especially Lei who checked us in. She’s amazing.
Really loved our trip and plan on going back.

The staff and property are amazing, but the location ended up being the best part. Kauai is beautiful everywhere, but the north shore area around HCR really takes the cake! Great, quiet beaches and a variety of things to do close by (but HCR is also far enough away that you don't feel like you're in a heavy tourism area). The shuttle service makes getting around easy but the staff also has good local knowledge/tips if you want to drive yourself. Don't think we'll stay anywhere else on Kauai now that we've found this gem.

A great position. Staff really friendly. Handy to a delicious coast line. Good snorkeling not to far away. Can’t wait to go back and give myself time to go hiking

Wonderful views across the two bays including Hanalei Bay. Lanai so we could enjoy the fresh air. This is real Hawaii not the big resorts. Provided beach chairs & umbrella for our outings. Small, quaint and quiet.

Beautiful views. Too expensive. It would be good if the restaurant was open more hours.

Staff and property are perfect for the area. The room was clean with a well equipped kitchen. The resort is a bit secluded from the already small secluded town of Hanalei. They do offer a shuttle service into town and back if needed. We loved our experience there and would stay at the resort again.

I loved staying at HCR! I was staying in Kauai for 10 days, and decided to stay there for 3 days, and the other 7 elsewhere, but in hindsight I wished I had stayed at HCR for 7 and the other for 3.
It's a really cool little property with condos next to a primo beach. Staff is super-friendly and helpful. The property is gorgeous. I love that it had a really good restaurant and coffee shop on premise, and then you're a short drive away from a picturesque little town where there are a lot more amenities.
In your condo you get a full kitchen, nice bathroom, and if you are on the 2nd floor you get a great little porch. I found it so relaxing there, and would definitely stay there again next time I'm in Kauai.

This is a unique property near the end of the road on the north end. The units are not two room. They are not all equal, my family was on site, some rooms have two baths, mine had one, none have two rooms, just two sleeping spaces in a studio layout. it's a nice property near the beach. The person who checked me in was rude regarding my use of Expedia to book. Overall a strange place.

This is a very well-maintained property at a beautiful location. The interior decoration is 'old school.' The inside arrangement of the unit we stayed in included a private bedroom, another sitting room that could be used as a separate single bedroom, a studio couch in the living room, and two full baths (one shower was a bit small). This was all very well done and provided good privacy with sliding screens. The Hollywood kitchen is well equipped. Some visitors will be put off by the lack of radio/television/stereo and air conditioning. However, air conditioning is certainly not necessary here in the winter months. Also note that the beach, while nice to sit on and look at, is not swimmable. There are great beaches nearby. The community pool is brand new and very well done, if a bit small. The fact that there is a restaurant/bar on-property is convenient. Seniors, please note that steep stairs are needed to get to the upper units. This is not convenient especially if you are carrying luggage, groceries, etc. Seniors may wish to avoid staying in the upper units. Bring books, Kindles, tablets, and MP3s with your music because, as mentioned, there are no entertainment devices in the units. Internet is available.

The property is great. The shuttle driver was excellent in every way. The coffee shop folks were great. Where they fall down is check in / office staff. The checkin/office staff isn't very welcoming at all, almost as if they are doing you a favor when you ask about things. When you are on vacation in a lovely area, the first impression is the checkin/admin folks....and these ladies were just not great.

The room space was outstanding and the staff was incredible especially Jeannie.

This is a lovely property in the most gorgeous part of the island. I do think the units are in need of a renovation. It has the potential to be incredible. It's in a super quiet and beautiful area and the staff are wonderful but the units are very dated

The property is oceanfront and the grounds are lovely. The rooms are dated and used. The property hosted people and first responders after the floods and it shows. The restaurant feels more like a community space than a restaurant, the check-in staff person was nonplussed. The general area can’t be beat though, Hanalei is beautiful.
4.0
Beautiful, beach front location. Quiet area on the ocean. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Not much in the way of amenities (grocery / restaurants) right near by. Must travel to Hanalei to purchase supplies / food for the fridge. The only issue we had was the overhead lights. Multiple times during the stay the lights would turn on by themselves - they turned on at 5am and again around 9-10pm, both times we were sleeping. It could be the sensors in the other rooms or some other issue. The restaurant was ok. Wasn’t anything spectacular but the service was decent and the views were worth it. We would stay here again.

Wonderful setting.

This property is by far my favorite place to stay on Kauai. Some people may not like the fact that there is no TV or AC and it is not considered what goes for a resort now days, but this is exactly what makes it so special, we particularly liked the kitchen, the view and the kitties. Of course being right on the ocean does help. The staff is amazing, we adore Sierra at the front desk, Max our driver, and Steven, the manager, each one so responsive to our needs, they made us feel like family. Our trip was too short! We will be back.

Beautiful location, friendly service, will definitely recommend!

This is a great resort. It is at the end of the road on the north side so own transportation is essential. Very close to many beaches. Plan ahead and get reservations for the trail,a day of great hiking, beaches, and snorkeling. No a/c or tv, but was there a week and did not miss it. Plan plenty of drive time to activities on south and west side of island, traffic is just bad anywhere on the island. The restaurant and coffee shop at the resort is great.

Loved the location and views, but I was wishing for Aircon in such a hot and humid climate! Also lack of TV is disappointing, everything in the area shuts down at 9pm, can't sit out on the balcony because it's pitch black and usually windy. For these reasons I'd rate it 3star apart from the fact I found the front of house team a disaster area, miserable "Aunty" and having booked the complimentary shuttle to our wedding 3 months in advance and confirming the day before, the bride was 4 minutes late and the shuttle drove off in front of us! Because they had a "mix up" and double booked the farmers market and couldn't wait!! Unfortunately it's 2 star rating from me for that reason.

Beautiful views of the ocean and very quiet. Layout of unit was very good. Pool area and laundry were new and very nice.

We love staying there. It feels as if home. Steven from reception is the kinder most helpful person. Ronny who is doing the bus transfer is the best. Beautiful location, very quiet. We definetly like to recommend and of courage come back. Mahalo Hanalei Conlony Resort

Location location. North shore Kauai is our favorite area in all of Hawai’i and Hanalei colony resort s the best spot. Quiet, green and lush and the beautiful water steps away. The condo is spacious and comfortably furnished. The staff are personable, happy to help and the shuttle service is a huge bonus. Shuttling to our favorite beach of tunnels was so easy as there is very limited parking. Can’t wait to come back.

Best kept secret in the north! Great low key resort ON the beach. Gorgeous grounds and spacious, clean rooms. Also on the grounds are a coffe shop/art gallery and restaurant. Great location north of Hanalei town- feels remote but a short free resort shuttle ride available to town, Tunnels beach or Haena beach park. Great staff- we will be back!

The resort is in a great location. Relaxing by the beach or pool. Staff is great and will help you with anything.

Amazing experience! Great front desk support and communication

Excellent place to get off the grid and unplug.

Location is great but no housekeeping. No garbage pickup from room. You need to find the trash can outside. No clean linen or towels. You need to take dirty sheets and towels to a laundry room and exchange for clean items. No vacuuming. For the price we paid I expected better service. Plus, no mention of this when we reserved the room.

Very low-key but nice resort. Offered a free shuttle to Hanalei and also Tunnels Beach, which is great for swimming and snorkeling
