This was night four of my Inner Hebrides holiday on the MV Hebridean Princess. Night 4 on a long very long journey from the south coast. The hotel is imposing, central, very convenient for the railway station, the ferry port and the town centre. It is a "grand" hotel in the tradition of Victorian grand hotels. The staff are friendly, helpful & knowledgeable and gave me the advice I needed. Not withstanding I'd booked in March, I was up on 5th floor in a room which was fine for one night but might have become a little claustrophobic after a few days. But it had everything I required, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom clean ( if lethally slippery with its glazed ceramic tile floor) It had a desk, a window which opened, WiFi and a TV. The furniture does look like it was purchased in a 1950s auction, but it works. Given the slightly "tired" appearance of the hotel I fully expected to find a Gideon's Bible in the bedside drawer. Supper was a mistake, it was all a bit burghers or spag.bol. or scampie/lasagne/ mac.cheese & chips and the choice of beers was limited to cold lager, cold Guinness or chilled John Smiths, probably the world's worst bitter. In the morning I took one look at what was on offer for breakfast and stuck to toast, marmalade & tea. It's clearly a very popular, friendly & successful hotel which merits a solid FOUR. It just needs a more imaginative menu, a good range of Scottish real ales, a bit of a brush up and thicker walls between rooms.

You advertise a pool table...the actual thing that you have should be thrown in a skip,it was one of the reasons for choosing your hotel, table was a huge let down

This is one of the worst hotels we have ever stayed in , the hotel was run down and in a terrible state . Vastly overpriced. The soup was great and the staff were excellent but I won’t be back

Pleasant hotel, ideally located , a stones throw from the harbour and all amenities, easy walking distance to the same. Car parking was available ,just managed to squeeze in next to the 4x4's!! Room was good ,bathroom was excellent , breakfast was very good , so all in all no complaints.

Room and Breakfast were satisfying. For the evening meal I would recommend to go to one of the many good / excellent, also some for snaller budgets, restaurants around the harbor. Fish&Chips was okay, but frozen and fried.

The price was fairly cheap and cheerful. I wanted a comfortable and clean bed, good shower and some breakfast. It delivered.

The rooms haven’t been updated in some time but that was part of the charm for us. We felt like we had stepped back in time a bit and the chipped paint and wallpaper pealing in the corners was part of the fun as the room was clean and the bed was comfortable

The parking was very tight. When I asked at reception about alternatives the young man looked at the CCTV and told me there were "plenty spaces" . I'm actually an Observer with the Institute of Advanced Motorists and there were no spaces without everyone having to reverse out onto the street. But it was his argumentative attitude.

Lovely hotel nice and handy for buses train ferry & lots of nice shops . The room we were in was clean enough but in need of upgrade it was a bit tired looking .

Minimal parking at the property, and most Oban car parks are pay and display. Property itself was quite outdated, with wallpaper coming off the wall and the room being very small Staff were fantastic and helpful, the location was perfect for experiencing Oban, and the food was very nice.

The room needed a complete refurbishment although the bathroom was clean enough, when you had a shower there was a leak in the shower head so the water was everywhere and there wasn't a toilet roll holder, not what was expected for what we paid for the room

I don’t know why anyone sound stay here. It is old, uncared for, smells, noisy. Old tour groups seem to stay here mainly. We had 3 rooms - in one, the sink squealed all night, in the other you could hear everything people in rooms above as next door were doing, in the third the window rattled all night and was cold because of zero insulation. For the money, stay in one of the wonderful b&bs just outside town. There’s nothing to do in town anyway other than a few restaurants which you can taxi to in a few mins

Being a few minutes walk from the ferry terminal and train station make it ideal for an early start or late arrival. The buffet breakfast was freshly cooked and topped up regularly, only thing I would say is they need a toast making machine rather than a staff member rushing around delivering luke warm tost to tables.

Close to most amenities.....is the good thing. The hotel built is 1895 has had its day. Hotel has almost stayed in 1895 and not gone further into the future.....its scruffy and badly in need of a good overhaul to bring it into this century!!! Management needs to spend some money on the hotel instead of lining their own pockets!!!!!

Beautiful town. The hotel was a bit tired and dated but nothing worthy of complaint. The room was fine, bathroom fine and amenities in room perfectly good. For us it was just the floors were a but squeeky, the walls and doors not soundproofed enough and the bed could have done with being a bit wider. That did not detract from the fact this is perfectly located in Oban and we had a good stay here for two nights. the staff were great. Breakfast was excellent and they were very quick to refill any depleted items.
