Very nice downtown Portsmouth New Hampshire hotel. We are very pleased.

They scheduled major construction and turned off water to the building (no toilet, no hand washing, etc) with no notice to any of the hotel guests. We paid the same (high price) as their competitors downtown, but had to use bathroom in nearby bar and skip showers. We had no available restaurant, gym facilities, bar, etc. My polite email and call to the GM went unanswered. The only notice was a sign in the closed public space. Other guests shared the same story. The “Hilton Promise” sign is a cynical reminder that the test of good service is a promise fulfilled, not one made. That’s called something else

We had a good stay, but unfortunately many amenities were not available. The gym, pool and hot tub were closed, and there was no breakfast being served.

I really like the hotel a lot, but there was some construction in the hotel going on around 6:30 in the morning, hammering, and I couldn’t understand why that would be happening so early. I am a musician and came up from New York to do a performance in Portsmouth at the Press room and certainly was not ready to be woken up at 6:30 AM, so that wasn’t so good. Also, I thought $40 to park was excessive and the meters near the hotel were broken so that’s not your fault but that was a problem and the pillows were not comfortable at all but other than that I love the hotel. It’s really nice.

If you're looking to stay in the heart of downtown Portsmouth, this hotel's location can't be beat. Our family's room was comfortable, but we were disappointed to find that during our stay both the swimming pool and hot tub were closed, as was one of the stairways. Our toilet clogged up within 12 hours of arrival, and we couldn't get any of the TV channels to work -- even after the front desk sent a technician to our room.

Our room wasn’t clean- the tub had black around the edges, stains on the carpet, and the sheets were stained with black marks. It was obvious dogs had stayed there. We did not have any pets.

We some to this city a few times per year for events we work at or attend. Have been coming to this hotel because of the convenient location, and because we are usually sore and exhausted after the events, because the site listing shows a hot tub and pool.
In the last 3 years, we have been here about half a dozen times. EVERY time the pool and spa have been closed for maintenance. I’m now convinced that they never have it in service at all, because an 8x11 piece of printer paper and cellophane tape is less expensive than actually performing said maintenance.
Every year we say “can’t still be closed… let’s try again”. Nope.

The room was nice and spacious. The room was clean and comfortable.
There was just some shabbiness to it.
The curtain shears on the window were in tatters and the bed coverlets (we had 2 queen beds) had snags all over them.

Nice clean hotel that was centrally located within walking distance to all dining and shopping including the Strawberry Bank historic area. Only reason for knocking a star was that our AC unit had an annoying rattle when it kicked in. Otherwise, a great hotel and one that we would gladly stay at again.

The hotel is in an excellent location and the staff that I encountered was very pleasant. And overall the hotel is nice. But it needs some updating. Scuffed and worn out is a term that comes to mind. There was a small crack in the mirror in my room along with worn-out carpet patches and other areas that need to be cleaned/fixed/updated. I was there for less than a day for a business meeting and for that, it was great. But some may find these things an issue. Especially if you're there for a longer stay or a vacation.

Great place to stay would definitely revisit down the road.

Convenient. Parking was difficult, but understandable.

Great property in a convenient area that is within walking distance to waterfront, restaurants, and shopping. This was not my first stay at Hilton Gardens in Portsmouth and it won't be my last. :)

Bed was uncomfortable. Ice machine was broken jacuzzi didn’t work. Room needs major updates fridge was frozen up inside and barely kept anything cold. Tv remote battery was held in by black electrical tape.

I liked it was downtown but poor crap hotel for the money

Great location and everything is walkable. Nice pool and hot tub.
Parking is $40 a day which seems steep on top of the room charge.

The staff was really accommodating and nice all, but the maintenance guy that was fixing the pool. We went to the pool in the morning and there was a sign that says the hot tub was out of service. We were going in the pool and the guy screamed at us. the pool is closed, there was no sign saying the pool was closed Restaurant was OK, For breakfast but for the amount of money we paid we could’ve had real scrambled eggs and milk on the table for coffee.

The room was below par. When I booked , I was not informed that the room was a handicapped room therefore it did not have a tub. They did not even provide towels for bathing. The curtains looking outdoors were ripped. The toilet back flushed constantly. The hotel staff couldn’t do anything with the rate because I booked through you. I would not go this route again.

This property was fine, but not at the caliber one would expect for the price. The food options were lacking for an expensive buffet breakfast. It would be nice if they offered a continental breakfast. The pool is very, very small- not ideal. Parking was $40/day, which wasn’t known until we arrived. Also, I booked this hotel as they offered a free roll- away bed. However, when I asked for this we were told that it’s a fire hazard in a 2 queen bed room. Apparently one would need to have booked a large suite in order to use the roll away. This felt like false advertising to me. Overall, the hotel is only fair. Being in downtown Portsmouth is great, but this was not worth it.

Great spot close to everything downtown. Walkable location near restaurants and shops. Stayed here before and it's definitely deteriorating. Loud AC unit in room, and very musty smell. Bed was comfortable except mattress was a foot away from headrest so kept losing pillows.
Staff was very friendly and check in/out was super easy. Might choose another option next time we stay in town.

The room had everything we needed. Nice amenities. Terrific location. The staff was excellent and they were super helpful and flexible throughout our stay. We would definitely stay again.

They charge to stay there like a five star hotel but it’s only a one and a half star hotel. They nickel and dime you. For a Hilton Hotel what a joke 😢

We love Portsmouth but when we arrived the line to check in just took much longer than it should have.
