Your experience overall will come from the types of Hotels you have stayed at. Some of the things we were used to such as being in the pool and ordering food and drink isn't done here, its just drinks and in certain pools. Rooms are standard and could use a makeover. Even our room with the personal swimming pool had only 1 standard American Plug which was a nightmare, but the other rooms have them all over. Very quiet and the entertainment is lacking. The breakfast is standard and i feel needs a bit more variety because if your there 7 days your eating standard breakfast food and really cant mix it up. The restaurants food was made very well and the Pizza at Sorento was some of the best i ever had from a resort or cruise. The Welcome breakfast is a timeshare pitch, so if you feel like its worth the 30 minute massage you will be set back 2/3 hours so do the math, but for us it wasnt worth it. They will push it but not to the point you feel trapped. Its a business so if you go there knowing what to expect just let it roll off you. The drinks were ok but but not anything top shelf. The real stars of the resort honestly were the employees especially in the bars and restaurants. Anuery was a one man show. no slight to the other workers but it was to the point you had to question if he even needed others around him because he was everywhere doing everything. Not a bad Resort at all. Again it really depends on what you experienced before. It is excellent for those new to mid tier.

Was my first time traveling and it was such an amazing experience!! The staff were so nice, always asked if we needed anything, food was decent, loved the wildlife on the resort, the resort itself was beautiful. there was a lot of activities to do. loved the swim up bars, room service was great/clean overall 10/10 me and my fiancé will definitely be returning!

You must be prepared to stay within the little area and not be able to kind of go outside of it. Unfortunately, a lot of the female staff was very rude to my girlfriend and because she didn’t speak Spanish a lot of the times they were trying to take advantage of her because of this trying to charge extra for things. We were denied dinner service because they said we didn’t have a reservation even though there was only two tables in the entire restaurant and it didn’t close for another 45 minutes. There were lots of issues I did speak with the manager who did help to try to make it better for my girlfriend‘s birthday, but unfortunately, it still fell short at the end. Be prepared to ask a lot of questions and really get all the information on how everything works if you plan to try to enjoy your time here.

The people was wonderful.

The resort was beautiful however the food was not great, any carbonated beverages were flat. Jacuzzi in the room did not work which was very disappointing. The beach water was filled with an overwhelming amount of seaweed so we stayed in the pools rather than going in the ocean.

This property was well kept. The cleaning of the rooms was great( two times a day, if needed). From the moment we stepped into the resort throughout our stay we were treated with kindness, respect and generosity . Especially Juan who greeted us the moment we got there. The rooms were clean , spacious and nice . Just like the picture that is advertised. This resort is an older model from the newer ones, but what was in the pic is what you got. We were able to visit the exclusive side resort ( only if you had a car) it was beautiful there. The food was good. A lot of variety. Also to be honest we only ate at the Thalssa resturant because we enjoyed the food there, also our waiter Frandy was great. The bonus was we were on the adult side with no children ( love the kids , but work in a school so I enjoy kid free vacations) but you were able to walk over to the family side. We went at night when the entertainment was happening and it was only a five minute walk. We had a
Massage done and that was excellent. The only thing I would have to say when it rained the last night the bugs started coming in the room. All I did was put a towel at the front entrance of the door ( door leads to outside) to stop them from coming in. I would revisit this resort again.

The service was amazing. The resort was beautiful

First of all, the price for what you get at this property is good. The staff and service were honestly some of the best we’ve ever received from an all inclusive resort. The staff especially Anderson Cooper, Felix, Robert, and Anuery were amazing. The drinks were okay , the beach has plenty of seating and shaded areas, and the rooms were large. The seaside dining and the food trucks on the beach were nice
The things we didn’t like:
The food with the exception of tao cat and Thalassa at night was just barely okay. We did eat at the family side restaurants and one night we left to go to the buffet and the other nights we left hungry. Some of the food was actually just gross and not edible.
The rooms were kind of disgusting, mostly just the showers, the water smelled like sewage water and was either cold or burning your face off.
Nightlife: the nightlife and entertainment left a whole lot to be Desired. The theme nights were basically just a DJ playing the same Latin music The few performers they did have were great. Our biggest problem was that there were many times when we didn’t have anything to do except sit and talk. The piano bar isn’t actually a piano bar, just a bar with a piano in it, and no music unless it’s during their 9:30 parties. The pool entertainment at the party pool was virtually non existent. Just bingo really. The disco was fun but very hot!
The pools are in need of repair. Lots of plaster cracks
We were stood up 2 times for “welcome breakfast”

The swim out room saved our trip and kept us content. We traveled with friends and they had one of the private villa-like units with a private pool. Sadly, they ran into an enormous amount of problems with their room. For the money spent, the service was lacking. There was construction throughout the facility that limited guests ability to fully enjoy the resort. The front desk seemed to pick and choose to whom they shared pertinent information about securing dining for the week. We were not made aware of booking reservations for dinner early and many restaurants became booked quickly. George at the front desk, seemed irritated about our inquiries. Our check-in procedure took an incredibly long time after a long and delayed fight. When it was our time to speak with the front desk, the woman behind the desk looked at us and walked away, not even a kind "Un momento or esperate por favor" NOTHING. My wife and I were confronted constantly by employees trying to sell us a time share. They even went so far as to call early in the morning for the first three days. We were polite in saying no thank but they continue every time we came to the main lobby. Most times if you called the front desk, no one answered. Some staff were wonderful and welcoming while others seemed to cater to specific guests. The food at the restaurants on the family side was much better. In general, everything seemed better on the family side.

I thought we were able to choose any drinks we wanted but so happened it was for only exclusive people not vip

We had 2 days out of the 5 days we were there, we had water that smelled like sewage. The smell reeked over the entire villa and we could not take a shower. Also if you attempted to call the front desk after 1:00 a.m., you got NO answer. This was inexcusable, what if I had an emergency situation.

I stayed here for my first trip to DR for my birthday and the experience was not a good one. The rooms are too hot, the staff did not take care of my needs in a timely manner had to call for ice multiple times and they never brought it so we gave up asking for it. Our ceiling was leaking for the first 2 nights they didn’t come to fix it until the last day and didn’t even offer to swap our rooms. There is no swim up bar only a bar by a pool so that’s false advertisement. Also usually when you go places for your birthday they give you something complimentary like a bottle of wine or something they did nothing. I spent my special day with this resort and I didn’t feel special at all. Definitely will not be returning to this resort and will not recommend to others.

Expectations for the the Catalonia was extremely exceptional

Our stay here was truly pleasant. All staff members were very friendly. The options of restaurants were great. The beach was beautifil and clean. The pools were pretty great as well. Our room was really nice and clean. The only critic I would have is that we expected a jacuzzi in the room as advertized, but it was a very large bath tub instead. But that was only a small inconvenience compared to the whole positive experience we had at this resort.

from check in to check out and everything in between, was perfect! I was pleasantly surprised how amazing everything was, as I saw so many bad reviews. Our room was SO nice, hot water, great water pressure, great food, staff was so pleasant in ALL areas. I have not one complaint! THANK YOU CATALONIA ROYAL!!!

I didn't like the water not draining properly inside of my room. Both the sink and shower were draining slowly. I had to use a broom to sweep the water after each time someone showered.

None! Staff is rude and not once i was ask if i want something! We even buy our own drinks on there shop!
Food is horrible, service and accommodation!

The majority of the staff were super friendly and extremely helpful. The Resort was a little dated but still beautiful. The food was good however a wider variety would have been nicer. Dinner required reservations that filled up early in the day causing limitations for dinner options such as resorting to the buffet.
