I recently stayed at this hotel for two nights, booked through Hotel.com. The photos on the website looked great, but upon check-in, I was shocked by the actual state of the room. It was filthy dust covering the floor, dirty walls, an unclean bed, and a grimy bathroom. The room looked nothing like the photos, which, upon closer inspection, seem to have been taken in 2008. These rooms are genuinely unfit for anyone to stay in, and it’s clear they haven’t been maintained or cleaned in a long time. This experience left me deeply disappointed, as I trusted Hotels.com to provide accurate listings. I believe this hotel should be removed from the site, as it damages the platform’s reputation.

Good location, staff helpful

It was messy, old and loud. The included continental breakfast was basically a free of charge usage possibility of the basement kitchen. Not to recommend.

I wanted somewhere central, with a clean bed and en-suite but didn’t want to pay a lot. Fab location with a wonderful cafe next door (used to be Barclays) For the amount I paid, I can’t grumble, got clean, white bedding, towels and clean en-suite, was only there to sleep. Don’t expect much tho, everything is outdated and a bit grubby, it’s a 2 star, but you get what you pay for.

My husband has been going up to London for Merchant Navy Day for a number of years now, and has always stayed at City Stay for at least the past 12 of them.
Classed as a budget hotel it is more than adequate for his needs.
2 minutes from the tube to Kings Cross Station it is ideally situated.
The rooms are clean and the bathroom is a reasonable size, but being an older building the stairs to the upper floors are not the widest!
There is a small friendly lively pub nearby with tables outside if you prefer something quieter.
There is a garage opposite with an onsite co-op shop and a Sainsburys store a short walk away to purchase your own food.
The kitchen is situated downstairs and is stocked with basics, bread, milk, serials etc, as well as cooking facilities. Obviously the state of the kitchen is dictated by the guests who use it but always starts off very clean daily.
There is also a small lounge with tv for socialising.
If you are visiting London for sightseeing then you save a lot on normal accommodation prices. You can pay at the hotel and they do have a 24hr cancellation policy.

The mattress was saggy, the toilet was literally black at the bottom. There was black mold in the shower. The skirting board was full of grime. The room stunk. The bedding was crisp and clean.
2.9
Great location near the Underground. The room smelled foisty and the bathroom mouldy.

Not a luxury hotel by any means, but better than expected for the price. Some parts could do with a little update and repair but overall not bad

The room was satisfactory but the dining area for breakfast boone was thede and askex and was told we we're to make our own we was under the impression that we get a cooked breakfast and served by them we had no tea or coffee at all so not happy and wouldn't stay there again

Good value for money. Staff friendly, close to cafes and bars

Hotel ‘room’ was out the back and up 3 flights of fire escape stairs.
Bed was broken so any slight move made a noise.
‘Breakfast included’ was non existent. No evidence of any dining area or breakfast and no mention of breakfast by hotel staff.
Daily housekeeping was clean towels left in a bag out side the room on one occasion.
Carpets in room and flooring in kitchenette and bathroom disgusting.
Food left in kitchen cupboards from previous stayers. Rat/mouse traps visible next to fridge.
Used face mask left in top of wardrobe.
Curtains hanging off the railing and overall decor was sub standard.
No drawers to put clothing. Only one small bedside with 2 drawers and a wardrobe with no hangers provided.
Towel rail in bathroom was not fixed to the wall so kept coming away.
Not at all soundproof, woken throughout the night by various stayers walking past outside the window on the fire escape landing talking. Doors banged when closing, could even hear the extractor fan from the bathroom next door in our ‘room’.
If the room was not ‘non refundable’ I would have cancelled this hotel and found somewhere else to stay.

The room was dirty there was stains and empty beer cans the shower was yellow and I got bed bug bites. The man at the desk was nice though.

My bedsheet was not changed. They kept for me an already used one with stains on it and they deliberately laid the bed with the other side of the bedsheets just for me not to recognise it meanwhile l gave them prior notice of my checking time.
The kitchen and fridge also is very unkept. The fridge is very old and atleast needs to be kept neat.
Bad customer sevice

Great value but lots of stairs. Helpful front desk about local businesses. No AC and sometime no hot water.

Hotel was inhospitable, had to leave after one night as didn’t get any sleep (was meant to stay for 4), checked out the next day and was still charged for the first 2 nights.

Excellent location, just next to the DLR Station that 10 min to Canary Whary.
Room was very clean, very good to have simple breakfast and use the kitchen. I can save much from eating outside.
Resonable price for london, so do not except you can get much service. Nice staff.

The hotel is fine for the money. The room was out the back and up fire exit stairs and it was small but clean. Parts of the hotel are very tired but again everything is clean. In the kitchen area you can help yourself to a variety of foods. The location is excellent, handy for tube and DLR however Bow is not the nicest area. I would use again.

Whilst this hotel will not win awards, it is clean, comfortable and served a purpose for a 2 night stay in that part of London. The room was serviceable with all the basic needs for a stay, sadly no tea making equipment. The bathroom was a walk in shower which was clean. breakfast was a self serve buffet style with cereals, fruit, toast, teas and coffees. This was a good place for me to stay as I knew I would not be spending lots of time there. In comparison to other nearby [laces this was a bargain, if saving money is the main reason for choice this hits the spot, if you're after comfort and a little bit more upmarket, this is not the one.
Overall I am happy with my experience at this hotel.

This is a no frills hotel close to Bow Road Tube & Bow Church DLR. I wanted to stay here because I was working at the London Stadium for a West Ham match and wanted to walk there, it's about 20 min walk. However, it's right off the high street so very noisy for me as I'm a light sleeper. The bathroom was quite dirty with mold and cobwebs on the wall. They had a toilet brush with bits of toilet paper still it in. The bed was okay, and there was a fan for cooling the room. If you're looking for a cheap place to crash without a lot of comfort this is fine, but for me I wanted more from this hotel. Unfortunately I wouldn't stay here again.

Basic stay. Average sleep. Fair price for what is on offer.

I like the hotel , staff friendly and helpful. Have stayed before and will stay again 👍

the rooms are good but the service is very bad!!!!

Decent, helpful and very convenient. I will stay there again. Bus and DLR ticket machine right outside the door. Fire instructions need to be more specific : escape possible by window just down the stairs.

Nothing special. You get what you pay for. But it’s clean and the staff are helpful.

Basic facilities, pretty clean, excellent location - convenient for a short city stay, overall exceeded expectations.

Hotel is in a great location next door to Bow Church station. We had a double room with en suite which was basic and small but clean. We did have to go out the back of the hotel and up the fire escape to get to the room but generally can’t complain - good value for London and only used as a place to shower/sleep
2.9
Room was very clean, staff was helpful, limited parking at £5 but was under cctv monitoring, self cook free breakfast or cereals and free fruit, ideally situated for bus and rail connection would certainly use again for a short stay
2.9
The hotel is clean, which is the most important thing for me! I definitely recommend to a friend!

Small rooms for price of £50. And shares bathroom. Not the best value, but it is cozy. I’d recommend giving this one a try if you are stuck in the vicinity and don’t know whether you should go further out to find better value. Not too bad overall.

Well situated hotel, close to bow road tube station and dlr stop. Also lots of local amenities, restaurants etc. Victoria park and regents canal also less than a mile away. Hotel itself is basic and a little quirky but clean and cosy. Also the ultimate self service breakfast in the basement. Only downside is the foreboding entrance/reception area and the reception staff who seemed less than happy to see me. Overall well priced and good location, but don't expect a particularly warm welcome!
