The hotel was very quaint and the staff was very helpful. It was located right along the canal with easy access to restaurants and the Saturday market.

The property is central to many shops and restaurants. My room had a nice view of the canal. All of the staff was very friendly and helpful. Check in and check out were easy. Breakfast option offered.

No elevator, no heat or AC, low water pressure for shower, small room. Bad smell on upper floor. We do not plan to return.

Good central location for eating, bars and shops. Unfortunately room wasn't cleaned on one of the days. Mentioned this to staff early evening around 6pm and later when returned to hotel at 10pm when it still had not been cleaned. Staff only said they didn't know why not. Used cups left in the room for 3 days and no clean ones left when they were all used. Specifically had to ask to get them changed.

Beautiful downstairs reception and bar; great to have storage for our bikes. Super breakfast and breakfast room. Lovely to have interesting ornaments and antiques in display. A minor criticism was the lack of umbrellas to borrow as it was raining hard when we arrived.

The hotel is friendly, but the bar is full of drunks. The room has no air circulation, and I could feel the bed springs. Good water temp.

The bedroom lacked a mirror with just a small one in bathroom. Otherwise everything was fine. Location excellent and staff helpful and friendly.

The location, in a historic building on a canal in the center of Leiden, is exceptional. Unfortunately, the hotel has seen better days. The rooms, and bathrooms, are in serious need of refurbishment. During hot weather, the temperatures are practically intolerable. The staff was generally friendly, but the service was rather perfunctory.

Three nights in Nieuw Minerva. Occasion: Rembrandt exhibitions in The Hague and Amterdam, with Leiden the ideal place to stay. Very friendly, quiet room (no view, but we prefer the quiet), good bed - slept like logs. Good breakfast. Nice, old Dutch style hotel going well with the Rembrandt paintings.

Bed was comfortable enough, decent water pressure, good black out drapes, helpful staff. Decor was faded, wallpaper was warped. View of fire escapes and terrace littered with garbage and empty wine bottles. Poor air circulation.

Good value for money. Well maintained yet old style rooms, with recent bathrooms. The common spaces have got some charm. Very decent breakfast. Ideal location by a canal in the historical part of Leiden, 15 min walk from train station

Leiden is a marvelous city, the hotel is at the side of the bay, which is convenient to pay a visit to the downtown.

The Hotel Minerva is a pleasant small hotel in the historic center of Leiden. The hotel staff are welcoming and helpful. Breakfasts are well worth the cost. A room is available for storing bicycles overnight. It should be noted that the hotel doesnt have a lift and the stairways are steep and tall, so those with mobility issues (or lots of luggage) may find it difficult to get to and from the rooms. The hotel is a good value, and we would definitely stay there again the next time we are in Leiden.

It was perfect!

This hotel provides good value for what you pay for. It is a charming little hotel in the city centre, walkable distance from the main university and many likely tourist destinations. The hotel itself was in good condition, the staff were cordial, the room was modestly appointed, but this is to be expected given the price. I appreciated the fact that the hotel had a decent continental breakfast option, which made the logistics of my visit simpler.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast very good with amazing freshly baked bread straight from the oven! The hotel is in a very historic building, so the rooms are rather basic, but this is part of the charm in my opinion. Location is excellent, right in heart of historic Leiden with shops and restaurants very close by. Very cosy hotel with unique character.

When I checked in and ascended the stairs, I noticed a stale smell in the hall carpet. I was given a 4 person room, which was fine. I thought the room was ok otherwise. I was booked for a 9 night stay. I began to become concerned about how my room was being cleaned on day 4, when I walked out of the room and returned 5 minutes later to get something and found that the cleaning staff was finished with my room. I began to itch quite a bit every time I sat on the bed. Finally I noticed that the sheets on my bed were not changed in 8 days I was a guest until I finally complained to the manager that the beds had not been changed. As there is no housekeeping staff in the evening, The manager to her credit, came and changed my sheets that night. But I began to wondered if the bed had been fully changed after the last guest before me left.

much enjoyed the feeling of good design and space. yet this is very much 2 houses run together not a glitzy modern hotel.

Superbly located hotel about 10 minutes walk from train station and 5 minutes from Antiquities Museum. Leiden is a wonderfully walkable city and there are lots of restaurants, bistros, cafés in the vicinity.
The hotel is an old building that has a certain charm. It is by no means modern, but it is comfortable, even if a tad tight (very limited space for luggage). My room was cold when I arrived, but the radiator took care of that very quickly and it got pretty toasty! Unfortunately, the heat did not quite reach the bathroom if its door wasn't left open. However, the wonderfully hot shower made up for the chilly bathroom. It was very quiet and dark.
The hotel has its own restaurant, but I did not eat there. Not even breakfast. There is a bakery about 3 minutes away and a nice coffee shop as well.

Beautiful lobby and great location, but the rooms and hallways are quite a bit out of date. Found the minibar selection greatly disappointing but only on checkout did I learn that it was all included--if they had noted that then it would've been on the whole good. Great little bar and bartender -- if you like the quiet but attentive service. Breakfast was incredible -- definitely pay extra to include it in your rate or buy separately. Lobby and staff are superb. If the room was renovated it could be a great hotel, as it is it's fine and would happy stay again. Hanover is a great town and there is a wonderful beer garden and squares nearby.
1.5 / 5.0
This is a fine hotel if you are looking for a very basic, no frills European-style accommodation. Rooms are small; double beds consist of two single beds squashed together; the matresses are lumpy; there is no decor to speak of. Because it is Holland, you will be faced with very steep flights of stairs; there is no elevator, something to consider if you have heavy luggage or mobility concerns. However, the staff is pleasant, the guests hang around downstairs to use the internet or have a beer ( a nice touch) and the train station is within walking distance ( unless you have heavy luggage.) I actually started to miss the place once I left!
