Ive had some fun of late finding hotels to stop at that are off the beaten track so to speak. As much as a Travelodge is useful they are generally quite soulless.
And once every now and then you come across a complete gem.
The Marine Hotel is one of those.
The place itself is absolutely lovely, situated nicely on the beachfront in Hartlepool, its old school but full of character. The ceilings in the bar area are super high and the food is hearty and potions large.
But it’s the staff that make this place. They have a tough time having to run between the bar and the reception check in but they are fun, attentive and in some cases downright brilliant. I personally witnessed the night watchman take it upon himself to aid a man from Germany whos company had screwed him putting him in a hotel whose check in closed at 9pm and who didn’t have a room for the night. Despite the Marine being full, the lad rand dozens of hotels in the area to find the guy somewhere to stay eventually succeeding. Most others would have washed their hands, this guy restored faith in humans (just sorry with my stupid brain I forgot his name! I THINK it was Andy?!?! lol! If you are reading this sorry mate!)
Oh and to top it off they have Caffereys on tap. I hadn’t had a pint of that since 2005.
Amazing place and if I head back to the ‘pool I will be returning.

This is the second time we have stayed at the marine hotel and yet again we couldn’t complain. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the rooms are very nice and the beds are very comfortable. The breakfast is also very nice and there is plenty to choice from, also the hotel is just across the road from the beach and all the bars and restaurants are all close by. It is safe to say we will be staying yet again and a bonus is that the car parking is free and there’s plenty of spaces.

The staff were amazing and friendly. We were there for a funeral and had the celebration at the hotel after, they made the arrangements so easy in a hard time. The onsite pub/restaurant had great food at a decent price. The cleaning attendants did a great job on daily service. The only thing I felt was lacking was an in room safe, when travelling from out of country, it would be great for price of mind.

Nice hotel with sea view
Clean, comfortable room

If you plan on staying here, check there isn't an event on as the music is so loud that you'll be kept awake until it stops. In our room we could hear it over the TV.
The floors are also very creaky so there's a fair bit of noise with people moving about too.
Staff are very nice though and the rooms are ok, but it makes you realise how good Premier Inns are!

People were kind. Room TVs were not all the same. We happened to get a very old one.

Loved the Suite we were in. Captain Cook suite. Perfect for the three of us. Like a miniature home/maisonette within the Hotel.
The gis found the layout of the room so fun and Isla (7) always sees things in whats been provided and thinks we being treated like royalty. It was convenient to just pay for the room only so we could get up bit later and juat pay for breakfast on breakfast menu as and when we were in need. Food was outstanding and beutifully presented on the plate. Only minor thing i had slight issue with and to be honest was really nothing at all was the low beam in the bathroom. Having said that its an historic building dated 1890 so to have the beams gives character i juat had be careful ducking once in a while. Staff were attentive and friendly and i couldnt fault them.

Decent place to stay tbh. Room well kept and presented. Only issue was the pillows which were a tad on the hard side. Not a massive issue. If hungry there is access to the bar/bistro which seemed reasonably priced for the area.

We had a short trip phoned in advance to say we would be late, the member of staff was super friendly reassured us not to worry it was no problem and drive safely. We found the staff to be very polite, responsive, helpful and friendly. Great location adjacent to the beach. The room was well equipped, clean and well furnished meetings our needs. The food was of good standard and very accommodating and knowledgable about dietary requirements as I have many and this did not phase them. If we were to visit the area again we would stay here again. Thank you

Have stayed before and the room was clean and in good condition. The was a smell coming from the bathroom and I did advise reception and they immediately looked to move us but were unable to due to being full. They did bleach the bathroom again and the smell was periodic. They had it listed to be looked into asap. There are things beyond control and they did try to fix immediately. I would still recommend and will stay there again.

The hotel suited our needs for locality but was tired looking mainly in the bathroom and windows

Well situated for work. Hotel a little tired but very clean

The hotel was good, clean and spacious - reasonably modern.
We stayed in a family suite which had a single room and the bathroom upstairs and a king / single downstairs. The radiators were on for the entire of our stay and couldn’t be turned down or off which made the upstairs room uncomfortably hot and the single bed upstairs was right next to the radiator so not safe for my child to sleep in.
We three were comfortable enough in the downstairs room.
The breakfast was lovely, hot food ordered from a menu and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Awful ! The room was too cold to stay in due to the windows allowing a draught through. An attempt had been made to stop this using a towel but this was just damp and adding to the issue having obviously been there a while (so they are aware of the issue). The issue was brought to the attention of the duty manager who was apparently unable to deal with the issue and the manager was uncontactable. I have received no communication as requested since then either. Totally unacceptable when it could and should be a great place to stay

One night stay on for work trip. What you would expect from a 3 star hotel and a little bit more. Food was really nice and staff extremely welcoming and very helpful. Nice big room and comfy bed. Maybe needs a bit of decor but not in bad shape.

Clean enough but could do with some serious tlc. Mattress was very hard, both had sore bones in the morning. Pillows were also very hard and uncomfortable, so we had a rough night’s sleep. Woke to discover there was no hot water, hubby had to boil a kettle for shaving. Breakfast was ok, nothing special, and they weren’t expecting us, despite our having booked breakfast at check in. Won’t be going back.

Stayed 2 nights but only had hot water for one of them. The day we left we had no choice but to have icy cold showers - not great on a cold December morning. Asked at reception but there was nothing they could do to help us - the only suggestion was to wait 30 mins and see if it came back. Sadly we were on a time crunch and had to leave by 9am so just had to make do with cold water. Bed also uncomfortable due to pillows that are either thin as paper or hard as bricks. I would bring my own pillow next time.
Whilst it's a convenient location, service and facilities are pretty basic here.

Went for a wedding arrived Friday evening easy check in, the room really nice there are bits that could be improved in the bath room but they are minor and for the price you can't go wrong. We went down for dinner and a drink there is a well stocked bar and the food was great a band was on that night we enjoyed it immensely. The next day the wedding went without a hitch excellent lunch and evening buffet the staff were all friendly and helpful. We and all I spoke to staying over were of the same opinion, a very good to excellent all round

We really enjoyed our stay at The Marine Hotel. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful during our stay, rooms a very nice and very clean the bar area is very nice and the prices are very good. Curious stay we eat in the hotel and the food was excellent and the cooked breakfast was very good and nice. The hotel is very central and close to all amenities, there are several good bars right by the hotel which are well worth a visit and the food and drinks are reasonably priced and very good. If you do visit try The Hidden Tap it’s only a small place but it’s absolutely fantastic and also Kitty Bills which is superb, also the 9 anchors which is literally a minute walk from the hotel absolutely fantastic quirky little pub. We will definitely be staying again at the Marine Hotel pretty soon.

A very typical British seaside hotel. Getting a little tired round the edges but we had a great room with a view of the seafront and beach and a very comfortable bed. Staff very friendly and helpful, breakfast was great. Seaton Carew is likewise tired and rather run down.
