A pleasant stay with friendly staff in a good, central location. Comfortable room, good service and a choice of continental or English breakfast.

Reunion with old friends. Fabulous.

staff very attentive, helpful and pleasant

Stayed in the Biko room. Large room, striking decor. All the expected room facilities. Beds and floorboards a bit creaky, and the room being above a busy popular bar came with predictable noises into the early hours, particularly Saturday. But, that said, we'd visit again.

Welcoming & helpful staff. Good value for money

Excellent, as always.

Staff friendly and welcoming.
Bed mattresses very creaky, springs obviously gone. Continental breakfast only during the week, shame no cooked option. Toast, cereals fruit all came at once, so toast got cold. Bananas had been in the fridge, therefore off putting black skins.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and the beds comfortable. It has a clean and bright large bathroom . There is a large garden to enjoy and it’s a short walk to the river

Friendly welcome, upgraded to a bigger room. All staff were very friendly, and our room was in keeping with the age and character of the building. Big fluffy towels, molten brown shower gel and a very comfortable bed. The bed did squeak as we moved, the only downside to the room. Loved the location, great value, and we would definitely stay here again.

All round very good. Highly recommend to anyone.

On arrival received a warm welcome and checked in swiftly. The bar restaurant area was very inviting and the décor appealing. Very much reflecting the hotel name.
The accommodation itself was tired looking, outdated and in dire need of some TLC. One hopes that this is in the pipeline as it does affect the overall appeal of The Lodge. The room was however clean and warm.
All the staff were incredibly friendly and worked well together as a team. They seemed genuinely happy in their work and offered a high level of service. There is an extensive menu with an interest variety of choices to be had. Food was well cooked and tasty and the breakfast was definitely worth the nominal additional cost.
Overall in was a nice stay and would visit again.
Many thanks to the management & staff

Staff extremely friendly. The continental breakfast was amazing & good choice.

Decor is very tired and didn't feel particularly clean (very large cobweb at eye level behind door into bathroom). But very warm welcome and accomodated my early departure at 6.30am with a substantial breakfast tray outside door. Felt overpriced at £90 for a twin room for a single traveller considering the decor.

Super weekend stay! Friendly welcome, lovely staff, delicious food and a quirky spacious room. Restaurant food was absolutely delicious.

Helpful friendly staff from the moment I arrived to the moment I left.
The restaurant should be visited.
Good car parking facilities
Leaving on the Sunday morning well before "breakfast" began proved not to be a problem as a tray with a perfect Continental breakfast was left outside the door while I was using the en-suit shower.

Great hotel with boutique rooms. The staff were simply amazing, so friendly and helpful. Our room was huge and although a bit tired in places was spotlessly clean. We upgraded from continental breakfast to full English and omg, it was so good and a very large portion. I must also mention the coffee which was, and this is no exaggeration the best we have ever tasted, it was from ‘Forge’ coffee roasters in Sheffield if you are interested. If we are ever in the area again we would not hesitate to stay here again.

Little gem. Up at Loughborough with my son for a days training the following day.
Really friendly welcome, great room(we were in Yoko).
We had to leave next morning before breakfast service started. They wrapped up some croissants and fresh fruit and left them outside our room for us unbudden, which was a lovely touch.
Lots of parking, clean spacious room.
Just one minor gripe, the pillows. Only one of them, and really flimsy, but that aside couldn't fault it. Will use again, next time we're up here.

The outstanding features of this hotel are the warm welcome and excellent service from the staff, the very pleasant and comfortable dining experience, the nice clean bathroom facilities, and access to a regular rail service. A great place to stay if you are visiting the Great Central Heritage Railway, whose Quorn and Woodhouse station is short distance away by car; and there is also an hourly train service to Loughborough where the Great Central Railway has its HQ (20 minutes on foot from Loughborough station), from Barrow-upon Soar station which is just 200 metres walk from the hotel (step access to platforms) but no noise from the trains at the hotel as they are in a deep cutting. There is enough parking at the hotel but you don't need to have a car to stay here.

As the room was directly above the bar, it was quite noisy which was not ideal for working.
Also I am not big on breakfasts but if I was, a continental breakfast would not be my choice.
evening meal the night before was excellent however.
The room whilst quirky was very dated and could do with an up-date.

Very pleased I found this venue. I was away for business, arrived around 20;00 on the first day, greeted with a friendly smile, assisted with my luggage to the room. Then enjoyed a lovely steak meal. Breakfast was continental style which suited me. This was served by Maggie, friendly and fun to chat with, which being a sole visitor was a nice bonus. Very enjoyable two day, lovely big room, what more could I ask for.

Second business trip here. Even though I got here just before closing, due to a 3 hour M6 closure, everyone was just as helpful and nice as the last time. Check-in easy. Room, service, food, drink & people great. As Arnie said...

Stayed at the Hunting Lodge as I wanted somewhere near to Loughborough Uni as I was attending the open day with my son. Good location, lovely pub both food and service was great. We stayed in the Biko room, it was very clean. Mattress was a bit soft for my liking but that's a personal preference. Only niggle were the beds made alot of noise (creaking) when you tried to move. Only thing that stopped me giving full marks. Would recommend and would use again if in the area. A much better option the holiday/premier inn etc.

Lovely friendly atmosphere. Restaurant food is really good. Prawn and salmon risotto was amazing. Had a continental breakfast first morning and a full English the second. Faultless! We have been for food a few times before and will be back for more in the future.

Good enough to say I have no issue recommending this property to any of my friends - can't say any more than that.

It’s an old property so not likely to be pristine. But loved the staff; food; upgrade; price (with blue light discount) and short walk to beautiful canal and riverside walks and pubs. Bed very comfortable

This was a nice find, convenient for visits to friends in Loughborough and Leicester. The rooms are themed (ours was the 'Yoko' Japanese room) which is an unusual touch. The room was spacious with a large bathroom and a hallway. The beds were a little soft to our liking but otherwise comfortable and the room was quiet (though traffic on the A6 not far away was a low noise in the morning). The breakfast was fine and the meal we had in the restaurant was very good. Staff really pleasant and helpful. Nice village with walks on the river Soar nearby. One thing puzzled us (and the hotel when we told them about it) - according to the Hotels.com info this hotel does not supply towels or bed-linen. We thought this was maybe some sort of laundry-cost-saver and brought our own. We didn't need it! This incorrect info needs to be fixed!!

This is a lovely small hotel with loads of history. Today it is a very pleasant, quiet place to stay, allowing plenty of relaxation. We enjoyed a very tasty meal in the dining room. The service was everything it should be. In short very pleased and will come again.

Lovely food and helpful staff. Unfortunately rooms were exceptionally hot and beds creaked loudly with the tiniest of movement

A lovely unique property with extremely welcoming staff. Great check in and staff helped me with carrying luggage to my room. A few cobwebs around the ceilings, a squeaky bed but a powerful shower and slept well!
Breakfast was included and rang up before as I'm gluten free vegetarian. The person on the phone went to speak to the chef who said a cooked breakfast could be organised. On the day I was offered fruit and gluten free toast. Maybe looking into more options for a gluten free breakfast?

Somebody has spent a lot of money on refurbishing this place - and it shows.
We had a nice, comfortable, themed room (Fagin room), plenty of space. Food in restaurant excellent. We'll be coming back.
