Great stay here! This is an 1804 property conveniently located within a few minutes' walk to Tryon Palace, and easy reach of the rest of New Bern. Our host, Mark provided two excellent breakfasts and was very personable.

The house spans two centuries , so cool. That said, the place needs some ‘freshening’ and it is so stuffed with oversized, non-period furniture that it detracts from the ambiance of the house. The listing said nothing about the fact that the bathroom (for my room) was on the other side of two staircases—if I had known I would not have reserved it.

We had an amazing stay at “The Captains Stay”. We stayed in the house and the room was large and bathroom was clean and lovely. The proximity to shopping and dining is perfect! Mark and Lori are like family! Breakfast was amazingly delicious! We cannot wait to return! Highly Recommend!

My son and I stayed in the cottage for one night. My son wanted to stay in a historic house, but have separate beds. A little tricky to find, but the cottage has two queen beds, so perfect! The hosts went above and beyond several times and made a fantastic nutella crepe just for my son. Highly recommend this property!

The location is great, 1 block to the Palace and to the trolley stop. The breakfasts (crepes, scones, eggs, bacon) made by the host, Mark, were superb. Because I am not a fan of Keurig, he made me coffee. There were some snafus, but the hosts did everything to try to accommodate me. Thus 4 stars instead of 5.

My fiancé and I thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay here. We were in town for an educators' workshop at Tryon Palace, and The Captain's Stay was only but a short 5 minute walk away. The lovation is perfect and the breakfast every morning was delicious! A great way to start our day. The bed was also very comfortable and cozy. We look forward to visiting here again, it was so lovely!

Visited charming New Bern for two nights on business 7/26/2022. Beautiful location right in the historic part of New Bern with wonderful hosts Mark and Lori . Charming and comfortable room in a house built in 1860s and nicely de orated with each room having it own theme. Breakfast included is cooked to order and wonderful. Rooms very clean. Walk down the street and you are in historic area of famous history of Bear City. Shopping and dining close and nice. Will definitely be back for further adventures. Thank you Mark and Lori for a wonderful stay.

The stay included a hot breakfast. We had fresh fruit, a yummy muffin and eggs and bacon! Coffee was good and strong to help us get through the day! The B&B is within walking distance to downtown New Bern so a car is not needed. And Mark was lovely!!

Great property...cute, cozy, comfy. We were sad the big house wasn’t open to guests and we couldn’t have our sit-down home cooked breakfast. However, we enjoyed the delicious homemade scones and hot coffee delivered to our door. We want to go back!

I would not have booked if I had known the house is left unlocked and unattended. The outside looks unkept and the inside needs a good cleaning and some sprucing up. Pics from the website are old and rating was from 2017 of the bed and breakfast. The house has has lots of charm and the innkeeper was nice but we didnt feel safe staying there.

This is a great cottage in the back of the main house. We love the privacy and comfort. The hosts have great amenities and snacks for guests. Short walk to downtown New Bern which has great shops and restaurants. We stay here every time we visit New Bern. Very clean and comfortable. If you prefer the B&B experience this is a must.

Craig created a warm and welcoming ambience for all of his guests. He extended himself to accommodate a diverse and interesting compilation of guests. His meals were bountiful and innovative. The front porch and rockers were especially enjoyed. Highly recommend this lovely inn.

Was in town for the Bridge Run and wanted to stay in the downtown area. Simply put, The Captains Stay was a great choice. Craig is a wonderful host and he makes you feel at home. The Master Stateroom is steeped in history. Bed is huge and very comfortable. I only booked for one night, and was kicking myself for not staying longer!
