The Red Lion is ideally situated in Bakewell, although there is no parking at the accommodation, there is plenty nearby. The only negative comment id make about the accommodation is the double bed is very small, other than that the rooms are very clean etc
The town is very quiet, and there's not a lot happening on an evening

Room 3 very tired, bed uncomfortable.
Bathroom very cramped and needs updating. Water system very noisy.
Staff very friendly.

Well placed in centre of Bakewell. Friendly staff. Nice large double bedroom with en suite. As they don't serve breakfast there were a couple of complimentary porridge pots and breakfast biscuits. Tea and coffee making facilities with plenty of t-bags, milk, coffee and hot chocolate sachets with packets of biscuits. Hallway outside room decoration was looking a bit tired. Had a very nice evening meal in the pub

Hotel Red Lion locked at 10.00pm had to access room via steep concrete & metal steps. To a key pad door which didn’t always open first time. Absolutely no sort of breakfast served early morning. No facilities for checking out had to take all luggage down steep concrete steps & leave key in door as front door was locked. Other B&Bs usually make bed each day, this wasn’t done. No parking near hotel. Tried to find overnight car park but none near by. Was informed you could book parking on line unable to do it. Beautiful area lovely walks & river. Close to other Beauty spots. Chatsworth house well worth a visit. Also Eyam & Matlock.

Staff were lovely. Location in the town centre, very convenient. Beautiful town. Surprising quiet in the hotel.

Great pub in a beautiful village. Very cosy bar area with friendly staff, people and dogs. The room itself was very comfortable and warm.
However, we only had enough milk for 2 cups of tea, and only 3 'normal' tea bags.
We tried to get more but the downstairs door was locked until 8:30am. We tried again at 9am but the door was still locked. The only way to exit was the fire escape, which we had to take at 10:00am as that was check out time - the downstairs door was still locked. To make matters worse, it had snowed over night making the fire escape a slippery danger zone - not so good for my girldfriend's bad achilles and probably also not so good for elderly guests etc.
overall, 4 out of 5. Would stay again. Thanks

Our room at the Red Lion was nice and comfortable but there were many other problems: i) there was no reliable internet service; ii) there was no breakfast; iii) the kitchen stopped serving dinner at 7.00. When we came down at 7.15, they said they would fire up the kitchen again!; iv) the front door was closed until 12.0 noon which meant we had to come and go in the morning via the fire escape although we had been told that the front door would be opened at 8.30am. This was very very poor value for L164 per night (pounds sterling)l

Great area. Nice staff. The rooms are above a pub, so be prepared for everything! Very and I repeat VERY thin walls.

Terrible bathroom, shower dod not drain, toilet stopped working, dangerous. Access via back stairs fire escape also dangerous and awful. Wished I didn't stay here

Last minute night away. Great welcome and accompanied to the room on check in. Nice touches of fresh water, coffee and even a Bakewell tart!
I must say the bed and bedding are the comfiest ever, I wanted to take it home.
Only downside was the walls are pretty thin which can’t be helped, we had a group of noisy boys next door who disturbed us at 4am!!
The owner was made aware and was very apologetic.
All in all I would definitely stay here again.

For the price charged for this double deluxe room we had certain expectations especially as it was on a room only basis.
On the positive side, the bed was clean and comfortable and the room warm. On arrival we were told there is no onsite parking but we could park for free at their sister pub approximately 2 minutes walk away. We were provided with a bottle of fresh water and 1 small bakewell tart (curtesy of Mr Kipling). The room was decorated to a reasonable standard but had one area tge feature wall colour had been scratched exposing the previous lighter colour. The bedding and towels were of a good standard and there were plenty of toiletries provided.
However on the negative side the was basin had 2 cracks in it, the shower tray had several chips in it and the tiles surrounding the basin had a big chip out of one corner and alas the hair dryer provided didnt work.
The hair dryer was reported and replaced however rather than automatically replenishing our tea, coffee, milk and biscuits each day (we stayed 2 nights) we had to go and ask as no one entered our room to service it.
We ate in the pub on our first night and found the food to be well presented, hot and of reasonable quality.
So to conclude, our experience was somewhat spoilt by a lack of effort and attention to rectifying issues.

Room was very dated and needed re decorating, but nice pub in nice spot

Customer service really poor waited a while to be booked in, room was ok. Went into the bar to get a drink bar staff nowhere to be seen. Went elsewhere and ended up in the bar and was told would we like to go elsewhere so we can close early! Not made to feel very welcome. Breakfast was awful no fruit juice offered and no butter for toast, full English not hot just warm like it had been standing, will not be going back here !

Clean and warm. Dated decor but everything you need. Good all round value.

Very disappointed.
Staff rude on arrival.
Rooms dirty, used cotton bud on floor, hair in shower, dirty cleaning cloth left in the sink.
Drawers didn’t open on the dressing table & the only one that did had a tablet in it, clearly not been checked let alone cleaned.
Very obvious floor had not been cleaned.
We were told to use the fire exit if returning to the property after 11pm, a code was provided to open the door, code not required on our return door wide open, great security! On entering passageway contained multiple bags of linen making it extremely difficult for us to walk.
Safety seriously compromised.
Breakfast the following morning was a shambles, no menus provided, waitress came to the table & asked us what we would like to eat, our reply was what choice do we have.
We had to ask for water in the kettle, milk, cups, for the fresh juice jug to be filled up, butter for the toast…..
we gave up asking & went in search of sauce & cutlery ourselves!
There was one young lady on her own doing everything!!! She had obviously given up on customer service.
To complete our stay the property have charged us twice!!!! We are still awaiting our money to be refunded. Not happy at all.
I would not recommend this property at all, avoid, avoid, avoid.

The staff was friendly and helpful rooms was in need of a up lift, the bed was very clean and that goes for the room also, There was a very big breakfast and it was very well cooked, We will be back, the only down side is that there was no on site parking but we got over that.
The owner did say that they was having a big refurbishment very soon .

A warm welcome, room was very basic not like the photos at all, room was dirty especially under the bed, lots of dust and old reciepts? Cracked bathroom sink and very dusty. Never slept due to the boiler noise there was a constant loud buzzing sound!! The breakfast was very poor, i only ate toast and marmalade.

The rooms are very small, the TV did not work and no one was on site in the evening to help. I was not even sure anyone stayed there overnight and the only way out in the evening was down a fire escape route at the back. The pub was locked when we arrived at 7pm on Sunday evening despite being advertised as being open until 10pm, I understand from the staff that they had been asked to move to a different pub that evening that was opening under the same manager. Eventually having been allowed in we spent one night and having been asked to leave for the second night (due to a confusion as to whether pets were allowed), we are yet to receive our money back for the second night even though we were asked to leave and didn't spend that night in the accomodation. The staff on site were unable to help resolve the issues and after two hours of phone calls with their managers and Head Office with no satisfactory outcome and a lot of 'passing the buck' - I would not recommend this pub and it feels like the culture at Punch Taverns is not a happy one and customer service is not evident but rather a fear of one's boss and a lack of clear decision making.

Has the potential to be so much better, let down by poorly trained staff.

This is a run down business sadly in need of refurbishment both pub and accommodation. Not suitable with persons with mobility issues. The staff were pleasant and understanding. It has so much potential being at the centre of Bakewell. Parking is an issue at the best of times in Bakewell but staying overnight increases the inconvenience.

good room, helpful staff, excellent breakfast; I'll go again

We stayed here for 2 nights and was pleased with how central the location was. Rooms are simple and clean and have a separate rear access down to the beer garden. You get a good full English breakfast in the morning and good service in the pub of an evening. Staff were friendly and welcoming. It was well priced for Bakewell which is fairly expensive to stay in. Only downside was no parking, but the council car parks are 2 minutes walk away and cheap for overnight.

It was a beautiful old style pub, very friendly welcome and just a nice place to be. The beer was in first class condition and the breakfast was great too.

Not really worth the money spent at all. Comparable with a youth hostel. No choice at breakfast and cheap coffee. Wouldn't stay again.

Great place, simply decorated country B&B. Staff are great, asked for an early check in when i was about 2 miles away and they managed to accommodate me, and are very friendly and helpful.Rooms basic, but recently fitted and has everything you need, and cleaner than any hotel i have ever stayed in, completely immaculate. The bed however was the best part, unbelievably comfy, and flawless pressed sheets and big feather pillows and duvet. Slept like a baby.Breakfast very satisfying, chef comes to take orders (shy but lovely guy) which is a nice touch.Would recommended and would stay again.

Good hotel for what it is. We stayed over for a walking weekend on bank holiday. Difficult to park but staff very accommodating and breakfast was fairly good. Great location, could do with a lot of improvement to the rooms modernity. Overall good stay. They dont accept dogs as we found out too late!

Great welcome by bar staff who took us to our room. While room was small as you would expect in a small pub it was more than adequate and immaculately clean as was the whole pub. Perfectly situated in the lovely town centre. Clearly considerable effort made to satisfy. The food both in the evening and morning excellent.

Stayed one night here, staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, and the town itself is a wonderful place. Do not expect to recieve small portions at mealtimes, they give you so much (just as well it was delicious)!
