The stay was so pleasant - the room was large and comfortable, great toilets and bed too. The location is conveniently near the georgetown area so you can take a short walk down whenever.

A place that I will definitely be back again. Great job to the operation team!

Amaze with the unique interior design of the room stayed, a combination between vintage and modern feels. However it located in the middle of the town.

Macalister Mansion is a really cool place to stay. Each of its only 8 rooms are unique. We stayed in room 3 which was amazing. The bar and lounge areas are quite funky. But dont expect to meet a lot of other guests given only 8 rooms in the hotel.

We booked is hotel because it is one if a kind which has only 8 rooms. A quite retreat/getaway for our anniversary. The facilities is great but we didn't use them much. One thing I want to touch on is the cleanliness of the room. The cushions on the chairs and carpet have stains all over. I even called the front desk about the stains and they told me they are aware of them. I was surprised that they still vacant for guest. I don't think this room should be posted for guest to stay until the room is cleaned. We stayed in Room 6.

The plus for this hotel are the rooms: nicely designed, upscale, roomy and comfortable. The downside is the outdoor space : is underutilized so outdoor tables and chairs are dirty and wet long after a rain. The location is on a street with views of a political party headquarters and a group of shophouses- no Georgetown charm. With a little more effort, they could improve the landscaping. Although the hotel is rather new, signs of wear and tear visible- peeling paint outside and stained carpet inside.

Excellent room / amenities! Unfortunately they accommodate smokers in lounge & bar facilitating stale smoke in hallways & breakfast dining rooms.

Fantastic hotel with a nice, spacious and comfortable room. The room is well-maintained and the amenities are luxurious. You get to choose from the different types of pillow provided.
We booked Room #2 that has minimum photos on the internet. The room is well furnished and big. We loved the bathroom that is so pretty and spacious too, with the rain shower and tub! The room overlook the swimming pool and makes for a nice morning view!

We spent 2 nights at the Macalister Mansion and loved it. The decor throughout the common areas is spectacular. They have a whiskey and cigar lounge with a great selection if that's your thing, but food in the restaurant is delicious and reasonably priced. We didn't get the chance to check out their fine dining option, but I'm guessing it was good too. The bar is a great place to have a drink, and the wine selection is good. Service was excellent, pool was nice, room was delightful, and mini bar was complimentary, what more can you ask for?

This is a very Chic 8 suite boutique hotel which has the coolest and chic decorations of all the hotels in Penang. The bar area reminded me of Sketch's in London with all the quirky decor items. It is the most expensive hotel in Penang but well worth it for the experience!! The cafe is an excellent place to spend the lazy afternoon with some tea/coffee and the tasty pastries. And of course the fine dining restaurant is the place to go to impress your guests in Penang with its chic decor and expensive set menus and fine wines.

It was lovely to stay. liked everything.
but there are only 8rooms. felt empty and scary sometimes.

Macalister Mansion lives up to its reputation of being a beautiful hotel. With only 8 rooms, you will have an exclusive personalised experience. The only points I think is worth being mindful are: (a) the location of the hotel is a bit further out of the UNESCO site (b) the hotel has a proper restaurant, and breakfast is served there. If you like hotel buffets, this might not be your cup of tea.

One of the best hotels we have stayed in so far . But we were caught by surprise when we had to pay a deposit of rm900/night!!! (Although we had made full payments ahead). The room was MAGNIFICENT! Spacious , comfy, and the complimentary snacks were high-end. They even have a turn down service which we didn't ask for. the staffs were so friendly and accommodating.

I stayed for 2 nights due to booking error and either Expedia or management could have added 3rd night at agreed rate but I was not helped at all. See trip advisor for full review

The service of this hotel was superb! Couldn't ask for more. The interior was exactly the same as the photo as shown on the website. Especially good for couples who are planning for their honeymoon trip.

The hotel rooms certainly have the wow factor, so I guess the saying you pay for what you get holds true. The only disappointment was the smell of cigar smoke in both of the bar areas, we thought it was restricted to the whiskey bar. The hotel is small so relies on outside guests, a lot of the time we were the only guests in the bar/pool area which meant it lacked a bit of atmosphere. The hotel staff were helpful when asked but didn't really give any insights into things to do, places to eat/drink outside of the hotel.

Hotel overall - heritage boutique hotelRoom design - very stylish and contemporaryBed and pillow - not too hard, not too soft with selection of different pillows (down, microfibres.....etc.)Washroom - snowy white towel, H2O amenities (mint refreshing ingredients), new and clean bathtub, dual sink.Other facilities - Muji stationery, in-room free drinks and snacks (TWG tea, Nestle coffee machine, m&m chocolate), daily dessert (macaroons), a very cool swimming pool with bar.F&B - I tried their French 8-course set dinner with wine pairing, it was great in terms of food quality, service standard and decoration/ ambience. Breakfast is also great with a lar carte menu and home made fresh juices.Service - check-in with welcome drinks, very helpful and polite staff, early check-out with take away sandwiches box.Improvement areas - no full length mirror, poor ventilation of toilet, mosquito in the room and in the restaurant.Recommendations - there is no restaurants nearby, you better take taxi to go to the centre of George Town for lunch/ dinner.

Room 8.From the moment you park your car, stepping into the lobby greeted with warm smile and open doors (like a VIP), fast check in with welcome drink prepared ahead in the min fridge below the counter, walkie-talkie to service staff to prepare our selected room upon knowing our attendance, swiftly and gracefully offered to take our luggage up to our rooms via traingle spiral stairs, offered us a breif history of the hotel along the way to our rooms, she is the most friendly and accomodating hotel staff i have ever met, bringing us to our door step, open into a majestic designer minimalist interior braced with existing mansion architecture, tv sound greeted us with warm(not like a dead hotel room in every room we have checked in), took our breath away upon looking at all the details and effort put in to this 40sqm room, she took us walk around the room, brief us on the lights and switches, toiletries and facilities, the best part was the AUTOMATED CURTAINS! She has even offered us to walk around the hotel and guided through the facilities available. I only remembered her via harry potter spec with curly bob hair style. She speaks fluent mandarin and english. Surprise awaited us when we came back from dinner! Immaculate and detailed services such as slippers and towels were laid down for us! Bed was prepared with outer blanket fold and kept. All curtains closed and best part was COMPLIMENTARY DESSERT prepared just for us!
