Matteo is a great guy! The place is extraordinary, 15 minutes from Ipanema and 15 minutes from Barra!
4.7
One of the most unique and spectacularly beautiful accommodations. From the scenery to the lovely breakfasts, we received impeccable service throughout our stay. Matteo is a gem and is the best host - he really makes you feel right at home!

When you like a quite environment and nature, this is the place for you.
Very kind host of the house that you will help with all you need.

Beautiful house in the jungle of Rio! Matteo is an amazing and very helpful host! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would recommend it to others :)

I recently had the pleasure of staying at this hotel resort in Rio de Janeiro that left a lasting impression on me and my wife. The building itself was designed by an architect who managed to imbue it with a sense of wonder that truly enhanced my experience. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the stunning view that greeted me, and this feeling continued throughout my stay.
One of the standout aspects of my stay was the incredible breakfast, which featured fresh fruit and was served with a view of the valley. The combination of delicious food and beautiful scenery was truly unbeatable. But what really made this hotel stand out was the service. The staff were incredibly warm and friendly, and their approach made me feel like I was staying at a friend's place rather than a hotel.

Extremely friendly family run bed and breakfast with amazing views and hospitality. Thanks for a relaxing stay!

Tuakaza is an amazing place to stay. Hospitality and amenities are 10/10. Breakfast is served, and there are many opportunities for relaxing. The scenery is beautiful, and the pool adds to the beauty. I would highly suggest Tuakaza to any traveler who wants to get away from the noise of the city, but still wants easy access to it. Matteo is very friendly and helpful at providing recommendations!

Matteo is a gracious and very knowledgable host and the property is quite well landscaped, with unique art both inside and out. There are wonderful amenities like a delicious breakfast, as well as some of the best views from a hotel we have ever enjoyed. Thank you Matteo!

Matteo is one of the best hosts you can find. What a nice place he has in the middle of the tropical forest - very peaceful place that I truly recommend.

Cannot say enough about TuAKaza: about the space; the host Matteo who is one of a kind; the privileged location with unique/thoughtful architecture and design that feels surreal - to name but a few.
Magical and whimsical retreat in the city of Rio. Come here if you want peace, beauty and an opportunity to absorb the energy from the magnificent landscape that is so unique to Rio. Moments from amazing hiking up to Pedra Bonita, the entrance to Tujica National Park, as well as a short easy drive to fabulous beaches and restaurants. In sum, TuAKaza is an oasis powered by incredible human kindness and generosity.

A remarkable experience. A highly welcome way to experience Rio’s majestic nature. The views of pedra de Gávea, pedra bonita, the ocean, and the paragliders are extraordinary, as the property, its dozens of wood terraces, and pools are tastefully tucked into the hillside. Matteo is attentive to each guest and ensures your experience is relaxing and enjoyable, and the subtle ambiance and ample snacks and drinks make this a perfect getaway. Highly recommend it!

We were picked up by the owners personal driver from the airport which was great not having to figure out a taxi or Uber. We arrived at night and were amazed by the view when we woke up. When we arrived we were welcomed by Matteo and he treated us like family. Every morning Matteo had breakfast prepared for us, which was usually a collection of local fruits, coffee, fresh baked bread, meats, cheese, and eggs. There were complimentary drinks and snacks available all day in the main are and in our bedrooms. Our room was fantastic and clean with very comfortable beds. The view, the view, the view! We were a little nervous about the location and finding a way to and from restaurants, etc. This was no problem at all as local Ubers were easily available day and night to pick you up and take you where you need to go. Bonus, there is a very nice mall less than 10 mins drive that has many very nice restaurants and one in particular that delivers to Tuakaza. We were there to visit for Carnival and absolutely loved our stay, we can't say enough good things about the property and our hosts.

// Mould issues.
I arrived after a red-eye flight. Was asked to sign the bill upon arrival (weird for me & I spent ~3 weeks of the month on the road staying in hotels). Entered the room to try and sleep, and as soon as I laid down, all I could smell was mould. My throat started getting itchy and then I had a headache, within 5 minutes. I rarely get headaches. If I do, it’s a sign something is very-off.
This hotel exists in a lush temperate climate. I believe the room I was in has severe mould issues. It stank of mould and my body reacted to it. I booked another hotel & left. I would be curious to see their results from an indoor air quality test & mould spore count.
// Unreasonable & sketchy way of handling a health-issue situation.
Owners refused to give a refund for the week. I asked them to walk me through their logic (I’m a reasonable human & wanted to understand), they refuse, beyond copy-pasting a “no refund policy” that I agreed to. If I didn’t show-up for the reservation, that is one thing. I would have stayed at the hotel if it was a liveable & healthy space. It was not. That is why I left.
// Unethical business practices.
I would not recommend supporting this company. They refused to explain their logic & eagerly took some ~3500K for providing: no service. It would have been respectful if they dialogued with me, explained their rational vs. make vague copy-paste policy excuses to justify taking ~3500K for free. Prefer to donate to a favela or ethical company.

The main reason to go is to enjoy the beautiful architecture of the house nestled in the lush tropical hills of Rio. The massive lobby/living room/dining room area has a fantastic view and a very relaxing feel. The owner/manager, Matteo, is fantastic. I had booked the single room and was upgraded to a very large room. He was very helpful with recommendations and help me arrange hand gliding. As I was leaving in the evening and the room was not booked, he suggested I could come back and freshen up at 6:30 or so, before flying out. That kind of late checkout at no charge is unheard of in more traditional hotels! Great visit!

Remote location in the Tropical forest with amazing views of the ocean, forest, and the amazing mountain tops. The facility is a giant cabin/mansion that was converted to a hotel which is operated by the property owners, they really care to make sure you have the best experience in Rio (They speak good English!!). They make an amazing 2 course breakfast in the morning special for you, you just let them know when you are ready for breakfast and they will start to prepare it for you (fresh). You get the jungle like experience seeing beautiful birds and moneys from your room balcony.
Away from the noisy city, but is a close drive (10 min) if you want to go to the city. Facility is also equipped with back up electric generator encase of power outage. The hosts make many good recommendations on how to most enjoy your day.
Definitely a more authentic experience than one you get from a Brand name hotel, especially in a place like Rio.

No Internet inside the room. The owner says to use it in the balcony and use mosquito spray when bitten. Towels are grey and smelled like dirtysocks. Could not even use their own hairdryer because plug did not fit. Saw mouse poop on sink countertop. Drain was clogged. We were locked out of the room and there was no one to help. Este vacation fuel Un desastre por este hotel.

Amazing escape from the busy streets of Rio. Incredible views and great friendly service.

This is the perfect accommodation in Rio if you are looking for a sanctuary away from all the tourist craziness but still close enough to enjoy all Rio has to offer. The rooms are spacious and all amenities needed are provided. Matteo is the most amazing accommodating host and the complete staff went above and beyond everything necessary. I loved waking up in the morning to the sounds of nature and opening the curtains to a view that just doesnt exist in real life. Breakfasts were amazing and will leave you full well into the afternoon. This must actually be what heaven is like.

We cant recommend this place enough. This was our first stop on our honeymoon and we have no regrets! The location is incredible, in the forest with amazing views and wildlife. The house is incredibly nice, with lots of places to sit back and relax. Matteo was a very welcoming host. He was helpful in getting us past the language barrier by assisting with calling taxis and ordering food deliveries. The breakfasts were so tasty. Cant complain about anything. It was everything we wanted and more!

It is a wonderful lodge with an amazing view and relaxing atmosphere. Everything was perfect. The service was impeccable and they really make you feel like home. Great selection of food. We got to see monkeys right outside the balcony. I was sad to leave!!

We were there in the New Year week and beach hotels were packed and crowded. We chose to stay in this quiet place instead. The views from the property are amazing. You are in the middle of forest and mountains with vies of the beach and ocean. We were told property has only 6 rooms. Stay was very personal and owner Matteo was very helpful all along. Overall, it was a unique experience. You have to take taxi or Uber to go anywhere and both were easily available and inexpensive.
If the room describes a King size bed then please call the hotel before booking. All rooms had two twin beds joined. Very inconvenient. The owner assured, it will be fixed soon.

My mrs cried when we arrived and I almost did the same when we left. the rooms and views are exceptional. We felt like we were treated as family. It is the greatest bed and breakfast ever and should not be treated as a hotel. Anything you need can be sent out for. Can't wait to return. Andy.

Perfect vacation. Excellent hosts go out of their way to make you happy. Let us stay till 630pm for late checkout because most flights back to US leave late from Rio. Ome of the best hotels ive stayed at.

It was my first time in Rio, and we couldn't have made a better decision to stay at Tuakaza. The attentiveness and friendliness of the staff made it one of our best hotel experiences to date. The staff was very knowledgeable about the city and the area. Also made excellent restaurant recommendations.
The neighborhood is exactly what we wanted: away from all the hecticness of Ipanema/Copacabana, and in the middle of a forestal oasis. Very romantic if that's what you're after, but in general it is just the perfect place to relax. All the pictures you've seen of this place don't do it enough justice.
Rio is now one of my favourite cities in the world, and I can honestly partially thank Tuakaza for that.
We cannot wait to come back!

From the moment we arrived we knew we had made an excellent choice, from the warm greeting from the delightful girls working there, Fernanda, Christine and Nella to the delightful room we stayed in. We were blown away with the amazing views and immediately relaxed after a hectic few days in Buenos Aires. The breakfast is a feast and we could have sat there all morning looking out at the mountains. A nice idea was that you were able to order a takeaway if you didn't feel like venturing out, this was ideal for us after a long journey.

Great guest house located in the national park so no matter where you are the views are spectacular and you are away from the hustle and bustle of rio city. The rate includes a wonderful breakfast and unlimited snacks drinks etc which presents pretty good value for money. The staff are young and seem a little inexperienced but they made up for this with their enthusiasm, friendliness and motivation. This hotel is around 15-20mins from the main tourist areas of Rio so be prepared to pay a lot for taxis (25-30 Reais each way to the city/Copacabana) or take the buses. My only criticism of this place is the wifi is terrible and rarely works and as it is in the forest all rooms should have mosquito nets, I was eaten alive by Mozzies in the room.
4.7
Stayed 2 nights at the end of a 2 week vacation. Amazing, breathtaking, incredibly unique, a luxury home away from home. 24h snack room and self-serve bar. A small swimming pool flowing via waterfall into another small pool - not big enough to swim in, but the views are incredible. A sauna. Plenty of common space to lounge. The staff, Daniela and Fernanda, were super. Friendly and welcoming and helpful. Can't say enough about this place. It's not walkable to other parts of Rio but a short taxi ride to plenty of places. You may not want to leave though!
