I have mixed feelings about our stay at 20 Degrés Sud.
Firstly, I must say that it is a beautiful hotel with some lovely views over the bay. It is, however, overpriced in my opinion, compared with other places we stayed at in Mauritius.
Generally speaking, the service is good, apart from a couple of waiters who managed to spoil our dining experience. We had to wait quite some time to get served, the food is delicious though so worth waiting for, but then the bill was not right and we just couldn't be bothered asking to have it corrected and waiting another half an hour.
Our room was rather small but nice. The outside rooftop bathroom was a lovely surprise but the creaky bed and the drafty door could do with some maintenance.
One example of great service was when they turned on the hammam just for us, as I asked if we could use it.
All in all, our stay was pleasant but I'm not in a hurry to return.

I really appreciated the early check-in after my long flight from Canada (via Amsterdam).

Mauritius as a whole is an expensive island and the hotel rates reflected this! Take lots of spending money!

Lovely location in the bay. A small hotel, but has all the amenities you need for adults only stay. Most pleasant staff. Beautiful food. Rich library, gorgeous atmosphere. Feel like you are at home.

Amazing place, and beautiful area of the island. The staff was wonderful and helped me organize a lot of activities. I loved being there. The cleanliness of the room was sub-par. The shower overflowed because the drain was plugged and water went all over the bedroom and living room. The maid didn’t replace the toiletries or all towels daily. It was not so nice in that regard. Also, with the car rental, the GPS didn’t work and I had to use my phone data to get around. The hotel said I didn’t have to pay for the GPS, but then when I dropped off the car, there was a big argument with the car rental company and they made me pay. I contacted the hotel regarding this, and have not heard back. Disappointed in them, especially with their amazing service while I was there.

Faultless. Came for a rest and recovery break, ten days of taking it easy, and access to great water activities and spa services. Food included in the booking is excellent. Did not get bored with the choices, which also include daily special dishes. Great service from guest relations, without feeling any pressure. Many thanks again to the great team. Highly recommended. It is one of the few places where I felt that the actual experience was beyond my expectations from the website.

I rarely rate things negatively, but I had a terrible experience here and wish to warn others. However, before getting to the bad, it would only be fair to give an honest opinion of the good as well. The rooms are nice and the service staff were very friendly. The food was also excellent.
Unfortunately, it only takes one bad thing to make a stay memorable for the wrong reason, particularly for a property that is marketed as upscale. So on to the incident... I was booked on a half board basis, which in every place I've ever stayed means that breakfast and dinner are included in the price. At no point was I ever told that there would be supplements charged for certain dishes.
I received my bill the night before I checked out and noticed extra charges on my bill. I raised this with the front desk and when I told them I was not informed about additional charges either during my check in or by the wait staff they said they would take care of it. I thought that was the end of it, but later I was requested to speak with the manager. They said they couldn't do anything about the extra charges and then proceeded to make me feel like I was stupid for not knowing something that no one explained to me and was not explicit on their menu.
I've never felt so belittled by hotel management and would never recommend this place to anybody. There are many beautiful places to visit in Mauritius so I suggest you find somewhere else to go!

Very warm welcome upon arrival in this cozy,, charming hotel. It was more compact than expected perhaps due to it's location in busy Grand Baie. Did not use the beach facilities so have no comment, nor the small swimming pool situated in the middle of the hotel.
The restaurant was delicious, and one of the nicest meals we experienced, the breakfast buffet was equally enticing.
The room was clean and practical, though smaller than expected. We were very surprised that this hotel is (and the only one on the island) labelled a Relais and Chateaux. We stayed in several hotels that were easily on a par.. and they certainly not the most expensive.

Despite email confirmation prior to travel didn’t get room we thought we’d booked. Spiralled downward from there; too many petty rules quoted to us on arrival and to cap it all was told to re-park my car as policy says cars must be reveresed into spaces. Checked out after 1 night of 4 night stay. It felt that guests got in the way of the hotel, it’s policies and tbe staff. Could be such a brilliant place but reminded me of being at school. Avoid.

Amazing staff, wonderful facilities, super super tasty food, great location, peace and quiet... you couldn’t ask for more if you’re looking for some relaxing, peaceful, quiet and wonderful time in an elegant location. The staff is absolutely amazing and have truly made our stay very special by taking care of us! Thanks a lot for everything!!

I can recommend the hotel. It is an attractive architected ensemble of houses, direct at the ocean front. We could go snorkeling by Boat and take bikes with at no extra costs. The hotel ia a little off Gran Bay, but they provide several times a day the possibility to go there by boat at no costs

We have just returned home to the UK after 10 blissful days staying at 20 Degrees Sud. I would describe it as a small boutique hotel with the décor and feel of the colonial era and at times it does feel like you have been transported back to the 19th century when you are sitting in a rattan chair by the pool having your cocktail served by a liveried waiter, but of course it has all the modern facilities you could want. We stayed in one of the superior beachfront rooms, although in our case it was actually beach facing rather than beachfront, but it was very spacious with a large balcony and queen sized bed and we couldn’t fault it. I understand the standard rooms are quite compact so it would be worth comparing space against price before making your booking. The private beach facing the bay is small but wonderfully maintained and they supply a free boat taxi service to Grand Baie town several times a day and also include snorkelling trips to the reef at 10am and a range of canoes, paddle boards and a small sailing catamaran for customers’ use. There is also the Lady Lisbeth which is a 100 year old pleasure boat moored on their jetty which can be hired for romantic dinners – at a price. We opted for half board which is recommended as the hotel is situated in a mainly residential area and there are no restaurants or shops nearby. Dinner can be taken in the restaurant overlooking the beach or on the terrace by the pool (often accompanied by local musicians) and each meal

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights in Nov 2016. We arrived in the evening 730pm and the check in took longer then expected. They had said the room wasn't ready although it states check in time is 3pm! We had booked the charming room and it was quite small - the bathroom was bigger then the bedroom! The room features were beautiful almost like staying in at Soho Farmhouse - white washed rooms with shabby chic furniture.
We had half board - breakfast and dinner included. it was a continental Breakfast with special orders of egg so not much really. Dinner was lovely and some good options however a lot of the items on the menu are not included in the half board. Also if your hungry after 930pm then you're kind of stuck as the kitchen closes no in room dining and your in a remote area which means you can't go anywhere.
The beach is small but has a beautiful view of the bay, can be windy at times. Watersport are complimentary although didn't get a chance to do any. Boat shuttle available into town however its a shabby boat which didn't seem safe!
A charming hotel with a games room and a very big library of books with traditional games back gammon, large chess board etc. A nice place if you don't want to leave the hotel however it is rather small and we were the youngest couple there (Aged 30-35)
A lot of insects around the premises - i saw a snake crawling up the stairs as i went to my room! but thats natural right in a place like Mauritius

A perfect best from which to make the most of a stay in Mauritius. Rooms are lovely and spacious, spotless, breakfast is plentiful, staff are super-polite, friendly and will help with anything, including finishing and booking anything you need on the island. 4pm afternoon tea is a nice touch, evening dinner is delicious, varied and beautifully presented, well worth the half-board and a lovely atmosphere to come back to. Windy spot so wander around the coast/bay to find paradise beaches.

The hotel is really nice style and comfy .the staffs are nice and friendly . The room is a bit small but its nice and the bed is comfy . The bathroom is just a curtain between the room and its clean . Need to shut the door properly for the AC . The wifi always disconnect . The beach is really small and not enough spaces . The breakfast not much choice but its good quality . I am quite happy with this hotel .

We found that the consierge did not meet our usual high standards.

Overall, we throughly enjoyed our stay and would return. The pools and beaches were clean and great for relaxing, the food was delicious, and there was a range of activities (such as a day trip to Flat Island on the catamaran) that really added to our experience. The only niggles were a couple of issues with service: a slightly disorganised food service on a couple of occasions and a beach staff member who offered poor customer service, but all of the other staff offered an exceptional level of service and we were made to feel very welcome by them.

Excellent boutique hotel! Amazing setting with attentive staff. Numerous excursions and water sport facilities. We stayed in the Austral Suite which was luxurious with amazing view of the bay. We had an excellent day at Ile Plate, and would defintely recommend it.

This hotel has everything, its site on aqua blue waters has the most fantastic food, the service is amazing with loads of staff on hand. Lots of things to do from use of bikes, canoes, free boat transfers, sailing and snorkeling gear. The best compliment is that it feels like a better version of home. The most standout part though is the staff, managed impeccably by the owner of the hotel, they were attentive without being intrusive and nothing was too much trouble. A paradise setting indeed.
