My first hostal experience and not my last, after this reservation I booked again the very next day. Definitely would recommend, bed was comfy, water was hot enough, I like how it’s actividades to do. The food was aight, but you can cook your own meal in the comunal kitchen which was pretty wicked. Some mornings I would lounge around in the nets, with the sun beaming at me then go to the pool which was conveniently outside my room. I never did get a chance to go on the hammocks but that’s no biggie.

The hotel staff here was so lovely and the ambiance of the rooftop communal area was spectacular.

This place was disgusting. My shared dorm smelled like feet and old laundry. I felt like I was staying in a homeless shelter. One of the bathrooms had feces in the toilet. The couches were soiled. Never again!

This is the best hostel i have ever been to! Great customer service, special mention to Davis, he helped me with any issues or need i had, from transportation, to excursions, to food, etc... Angie was also very helpful. The design of the property is awesome! Not your bare bones hostel, this one has pools, bar, restaurant, rooftop deck with great views and also activities like dance classes! They have raised the bar for hostels for me, i dont know how i will go back to a basic hostel again. I cant wait to visit again and bring my son, family, and friends. Thank you all for an amazing time!

Masaya is great if you’re a backpacker. The shared spaces are amazing, with the two pools, the huge rooftop terrasse with its bar and many chilling spots.
We booked a private room since we are a couple and that was the disappointing part. The room smelled terrible. It was very humid and you could see some mould on the curtain. The bed was comfortable but you only have a small sheet for covering. The whole thing didn’t feel very welcomy to me.
On the other hand, the hostel is very well located and the people at the front desk are very helpful to guide your around.
So, i guess youll love it if you backpack, maybe less if you travel with your partner and looking for a certain comfort.

Had a great time staying at this quiet hostel. Location is right in the heart of the city. Beds (in dorms) have built-in privacy curtains. Downside of this is that the curtains are vinyl and do not ventilate well (I had to leave mine open to sleep). Towels are 3,000 COP when staying in the dorms.

Amazing people and service! Helped us book a sailboat tour to a private beach in the park. Had a salsa dancing lesson, which led to a guided Santa Marta night life experience with a local Colombian. The motor bikes are the most exciting way to get around the city!

Great central location with helpful staff and exciting nightly planned activities for guests. Two pools and a lively game/lounge rooftop. Beautiful city views and accomondations. They will also help plan city excursions as well.

We really enjoyed our stay! Breakfast was delicious, but it took a while for the air conditioner to cool the room down.

This hostel had the vibe of a high end hotel! Our private room was big and clean, and the bed was super comfortable. The pools were cool and clean, and the rooftop bar was a great place to hang out and have a beer or a cocktail in the evenings and watch the sun set over the town. We liked it so much the first night we were there that we came back for more!

This property was pretty underwhelming. It was clean with beautiful architecture but that’s about it. The indoor pool was A clean good sized dip pool. The roof top pool was the opposite filthy and even smaller. The staff were quite nice and helpful which made a difference. The food and bar is ok. Drinks are a little on the pricey side and the food was fine but nothing The location was OK, central Santa Marta for sure but kind of the dodgy end of a street. I never felt unsafe but the area was a little funny (not in a good way) with interesting characters constantly floating about day or night.
I’ve been told this is one of the best hostels in Santa Marta. I only stayed here during my time so I can’t compare but if that’s the case than I guess I was lucky - but I did expect more from my overall experience here.

Stayed here in a dorm room of 4, then later in a private room. Both were very nice. The Hostel has 2 pools, one on the main level and one on the 3rd floor where their is also a bar.
I really enjoyed the experience at this hostel apart from the breakfast, which I found extremely underwhelming. The fresh fruit was amazing, however the egg's were prepared in one big batch and no choice, only scrambled. I would recommend to serve egg's to order and add more variety such as fried, poached, omelette, etc.
The Masaya Hostel Is located in Centro market area.

Extremely nice boutique hostel. Very good location in Santa Marta (a few blocks from the main plazas and restaurants). Large themed bedrooms (ours was Shakira - with painting of the lady herself in the room!). Nice Moroccan style building with a rooftop bar and small pool. Only slight downsides were the lack of friendliness from some of the main reception staff (not all of them or the night staff), the inability to check in until 3pm and the rather poor breakfast offering. All in all, great value stay in a modern, clean building. The organised transfer to Cartagena was also very good and much more comfortable and time efficient than taking the bus.

Rooftop pool. That says something. This place is hip and Santa Marta is a great hub for a lot of activity (Lost City treks, visits to Tayrona). A little sketchy (I got mugged a couple blocks from the hotel). But not nearly as sketchy as Taganga. Some great restaurants in town, too (just stick to the pedestrian streets).

We only stayed only one night as our main goal was having a place to stay before heading to Tayrona the next morning. The hostel is super cute. Funky rooms, very modern and clean, two pools to swim in. The rooftop area is a nice bonus - great place to swim, eat, or just hang out. No complains - would definitely recommend.

Great staff! Beautiful hostel with nice open kitchen on the roof, great social bar and pools to cool down in. Perfect location. A/c in rooms a little COLD. But modern bathrooms and very clean. Loved this place!

Very pleasant hotel with many young people, the most of them are backpackers. A very good environnment, well located, a little bit noisy.

We loved staying at Masaya and wished we would have stayed longer! The staff is great, location is in the middle of everything, and the hotel itself is trendy with such a cool vibe- hanging hammocks, a pool where you can look up to see the sky, and plenty of places to sit and just relax. Will definitely recommend to others!

This hostel was recommended by our landlords in Bogota. We reserved a night before going on to Tairona. There is a beautiful pool right after you check in, which we took advantage of. The room was comfortable and we enjoyed our breakfast on the rooftop.

After two weeks visiting family. My fiance and I finished our Colombia vacation in Santa Marta. As soon as we stepped out of the Cab and walked into the Hostel. We imediatly knew something was different. Everyone was nice and outgoing. The place is absolutely beautiful. And nightly events or parties. Everything was relatively close. and we felt like part of the Family from day one.
