The people who worked there were lovely and helpful the the hotel needs to be updated and hopefully they will do so as they can afford to but the actual room was clean and tidy and the the mattress was comfortable. And it was $40 a night cheaper than anything else. The hotel was in the old downtown core of Castlegar and had several good restaurants and a pharmacy almost next door. Even though it was “downtown” it was really quite quiet. I would stay again.

It is worth calling the hotel directly, this is a small town and staffing hours are very thin as hotel employees juggle other jobs. However, they are super welcoming and made our check-in incredibly smooth, even at 11pm. Continental, serve-yourself breakfast was included near the front desk, where the coffee maker is located (not in the room). Downsides were the mattress (soft, I like firm), poor sound proofing I suspect, creaky floors- the building is very old. The latter could be a plus. Very fresh smell, silky sheets, newly renovated room, mini fridge for less than $100/night. So happy I chose it. Next time I would book with the hotel directly, I think the price is the same.

It was a weird experience, in general but it was very quiet and really clean is spite of the age of everything! It was pretty cool overall tho, and the staff was quite nice as well!

Extremely kind and approachable staff. Comfortable beds. Very good value for the price. Only nitpick is that the water pressure in the shower was rather weak

The property is very dated. The air-conditioning was not sufficient for the room. The room was clean and staff very friendly.

Charming little hotel in the heart of Castlegar. The owner greeted me and got me checked in. She was very nice and personable. She offered me croissants and other baked goods for breakfast. I wish I had spent more than one night.

Owners were helpful in identifying restaurants, attractions & local conditions.

The hotel is old, the operators have done a nice job updating the rooms and they are comfortable and clean. Helpful front desk. I would stay here again. Very reasonable room rate.

Great spot to stay at if you're in the Castlegar area. The owner/manager met me at check-in, and we had a great chat. The room was as advertised, and I enjoyed my short stay. I'd definitely recommend this place.

Despite a good price, would not stay again even if it was free.
This place seemed a bit outdated from the exterior but we kept optimistic as maybe it had some unique charm/character. The inside is still quite 'vintage' which creates some interesting character, but the overall condition made it a terrible stay.
The hallways had a very strange smell - like mould masked in cleaning chemicals. The room was only slightly better. The toilet and sink mainly seemed to have been kept clean, but the soap dispenser had an alarmingly large amount of dirty build-up. The shower curtain had mould all over the bottom of it. The bed covering smelled of dirty bodies and odors. The floor would sink underfoot in places, like it's rotting away.
Breakfast was a few pieces of fruit, a few things in a mini-fridge to help yourself to, and a dirty coffeepot.
Pretty bad time.

The owner was nice and helpful. The room was basically clean. The curtains smelled horrible when the fan was on. The breakfast was not eatable as everything could have been handled by numerous other people. The banana and yogurt were the only items that perhaps others had not handled.

Bare bones operation in very aged, but clean, small hotel. Very agreeable and helpful proprietress. Few breakfast items, but adequate, self-serve. Quiet. Good shower w/ excellent water pressure. Good onsite parking.

The property is not a five star hotel but it is very comfortable and was perfect for my stay. I felt at home there. I met both of the owners and they are both very friendly and accommodating. I will definitely stay there again.

The building moans and groans as you walk up the dark stairs. It looks and smells old. The breakfast looked sad, so we opted for muffins at the nearby Humble Bean instead. The owner was great however.

Thought we were going to fall through the floors. Spiders in the rooms. Ancient rooms. Will only stay in the chain hotels from now on.
Lovely old man at front desk who tried his best but check in was painfully slow and he appeared to have difficulty navigating the process electronically

Never again. This establishment is located in the downtown area. There was a street cleaner with some machinery working outside the window at 11-1 am The establishment is old. Probably should have remained a ski bum flop house

A great family owned hotel with newly artfully decorated rooms, super comfortable beds, large windows, ac, cable tv and a homy atmosphere. Offers a continently breakfast with many options and also evening dining featuring delicious European cuisine indoors and on the patio. The chef is the owner! I always stay at the Chameleon 😊

The hotel is in the older part of Castlegar. We loved the area. The building seemed closed when we got there but just like the sign on the door says “back at 4:30” they were. The hotel has seen better days but our room was very clean and quiet. We have a comfortable sleep. Due to COVID our breakfast came in a plastic container with oranges, yogurt, muffin and croissant. We would come back. Staff was very friendly.
