There was dirty towels hanging in the bathroom door, hairs on the back of the room let seat, a baby bottle was for me beside the bed.

Desperately needs an update. Old and tired and didn’t feel particularly clean. Staff was nice but price is outrageous for what you get. Buffet breakfast was cold and very expensive. We thought it was included (it wasn’t) and we still wouldn’t have gone back. The waitress was very friendly and did her best.

Check in at 4pm , hotel was empty arrived at 3.30 said we must wait until 4pm. Not good for dinning opens at 12 noon and kitchen closes at 8pm. Must because its off peak season and hotel was empty. Room cleaning stayed 3 nights thought they might replace towels after 2 nights, and empty garbage. Karl.

Stayed 3 nights. Rooms not cleaned. Toilet paper, coffee or towels never restocked.
Restaurant closed at 9:00pm.
$20 for a continental breakfast. Better breakfast in town.
Used to have amazing food and service.
Going down hill fast. So sad.

Beautiful grounds in an amazing location.Very skilled carpenters built this place . Our suite was spacious and had wondeful views from both decks. As for the kitchen in our suite 9 forks, 1 knife, no small spoons poorly organised to say the least .

Property is dated but still lovely. Unfortunately, the people next door were loud and we were disturbed early in morning and late at night due to parties/loud conversations. Not as relaxing a place as I had thought.

Front desk checkin was horrible. Attendant could not speak English. Had three rooms booked for ocean view in same complex but all three were in different buildings and one had no view. No air conditioning, despite being told at time of booking that they had it. Pub service horrible. One young lady for whole room. Had other guests trying to enter one of our rooms saying they were given same room. Such a sad story.
Once a local jewel, now with foreign owners it is a joke. I understand they have done same thing to April point. Wyndham needs to wake up!

It is a lovely location and property. The rooms are large and clean, but the building is deteriorating and in need of repair and maintenance. The staff were friendly and mostly efficient. The breakfast was not very good and too expensive for what you receive (I recommend the Ideal Diner near by). Dinner in the pub was very good but at both meals they seemed very short staffed. We would stay there again, but we hope the owners give the beautiful old building the attention it needs and deserves.

After getting a late ferry and long travel day arrived at hotel late with doors locked noone at front desk. This was after multiple calls to say arriving late with no answer, called again once arriving to locked doors with no answer. Forced to sleep in truck in parking lot. No call back today after talking to front desk in morning or email.

A very enjoyable stay - unfortunately it had to be cut short for medical reasons.

Beautiful location ocean front,great views.
Check in staff disorganized, no good communication. Breakfast substandard.Pub food and staff excellent. Management questionable.

I did not receive clean towels or garage removed at all. I had to go looking for clean towels. There was a garbage can outside the stairways that was not emptied in the 4 days i was there and it stunk so bad.

We enjoyed the location and most of the staff even though the bar and restaurant were closed due to staff shortages.
Additionally, when on the last day we were able to get breakfast, very badly cooked, we only ate a small meal.
Yet, we had thought the breakfast was complimentary but instead cost $40.
The room we received overlooked the dumpster outside the kitchen and not the ocean as I had reserved. Plus, tons of lovely spider webs. Price itself was okay.
Also, the front desk clerk knew absolutely no English which was mostly amusing as she interacted with dozens of people at the front desk but did make it harder to check on amenities.
Don't think we're coming back to Painter's Lodge. :)

No staff available in the pub that night except chef in the kitchen and one server out front who came in from the office and was inexperienced. If it was not for the pleasantness of that person, we would’ve walked out, but she did the best she could under the circumstances and kept smile throughout the whole ordeal

Property area and setting lovely.
Staff at reception very poor grasp of English and most difficult to communicate with

Property and rooms were a little dated but clean. There was a nostalgic feel to this property that is unexplainable. Grounds were very well kept but there was zero housekeeping for a 3 night stay. I would also add a definite lack of communication between staff and guests. No alert hangers to put on door to make up room etc.
There are no screens on the windows and no air conditioning. However there was a ceiling and a floor oscillating fan. The weather was a bit cooler for August so it was comfortable. I’m not sure if it would have been if the weather was warmer. We were in the area for a family function and didn’t get to use the facilities as much as we would have liked to. We would definitely go back to try it out again when our stay wouldn’t be as busy with other activities.

A good facility for families. Only missing appliance is a stove or microwave.

We enjoyed our stay as a family. The pool was awesome for our kids.
Our room had a huge corner balcony where we got to watch 2 cruise ships pass at night.
We ate at the restaurant for dinner and breakfast and enjoyed both meals.
Only complaint would be the cleanliness of our room. Needed some more TLC for sure but it seemed like they were dealing with maybe lack of staff on that particular day.
All in all we want to come back as it was a great little get away.

On July 31 I had booked and paid for an ocean view room at Painter's Lodge, for 2 nights, from August 30 to September 1st.
Then on August 13 I talked to a receptionist to confirm my booking for an ocean view room on the second floor, northern most room in the Redonda bldg. (having stayed in that room 3 times previously). I was told by Monroy I was confirmed for that room. On arrival to check in August 30 I was told that none of the 4 second floor rooms in that building were not available. Another client from Denver was trying to check in to the same rooms, having phoned 2 days previously, and been confirmed as having one of those rooms.
I was lucky enough to get an ocean view room in the main bldg. But why was my original booking fouled up?
Further, on August 31 we went to the Tyee Pub for dinner. There was only one waitress to look after both the inside an the outer deck. It took 3 hours to have dinner. People were leaving because they were not being served. My selection from the menu could not be served because they didn't have the ingredients, my second choice was tasteless. My wife ordered onion rings, which were over fried, were almost black in color, hardly edible.
I will not be going back to Painter's Lodge.

Painter's Lodge is absolutely beautiful. Traveling with adult children and our rooms could not have been better. Great view of the water. Very nice restaurant. Beautiful property.

Wonderful, would absolutely stay here again. We had a ocean view from our room, the room was spacious and welcoming.

We had a room facing the ocean - could near the whales blow as they swam by in the late evening. Lovely location.

Could use some updating but the room was clean and adequate

This hotel needs a major renovation. The location is great and the beautiful oceanfront property has a ton of potential. Hopefully the Wyndham brings it back to its glory days

World class resort! Absolutely stunning scenery! Friendly staff and i highly recommend eating at the restaurant and pub on site. Amazing fish and chips! I’ll definitely be back

Property is very run down due to lack of maintenance. Room had no hot water and was filthy. Hair is the shower, stains on furniture and a layer of dust on the ceiling fan that would have taken years to build up to the level it was at. Do not stay here

Great access to water, deer walking on the grounds, people from far and wide. Excellent dining! Great place all around! Just north of Campbell River great place to stay if you want to explore the north island.

Yikes! This place gave me the ick. Booked 6 weeks ago. Pix online looked great - one showed a renovated bathroom. Def not in our room! We walked in and it was like time traveling back to 1975. The only thing that was newer was the flooring. How is this a Wyndham property???? Incredibly disappointing.

Very special place. The older gentleman and lady that assisted me Saturday were lovely and helpful, the fellow Friday night was obviously quite ill and less amicable. They’ve done well to keep the character of the place alive while also modernizing. Clean and comfortable. Hot water wasn’t working but was quickly fixed and the fitness centre was offered as an alternative. Would certainly return!

Stayed in the main building of the resort and I discovered in the morning that there was no hot water in the room.
Apparently the boiler in the building has been malfunctioning for some time and had never been properly repaired.
I ended up having to go to another building to have a shower. Not sure why I was given a room in the main building in the first place.

This place really needs more staff. I never once saw housekeeping in the 3 nights I was there.

The Painters Lodge is a legendary fishing lodge on Vancouver Island. The facility and grounds are still beautiful and well kept. Unfortunately, the hotel is understaffed and the service is a shell of its past. The restaurant closes early and the lobby bar is no longer in use. I hope it returns to its old form soon.
1.5
Unfortunately the restaurant food and menu needs to be upgraded. Spectacular views and nice location of restaurant but the fries and burger came from a box. Prices were of a 5+ star resort quality menu. Ceasar salad had artificial bacon bits and overall wasn’t up to par with the scenery and friendly staff. Definitely disappointed in the food.

The ice machines are no longer in the end of each complex. But in the main building up the stairs and down the hall. So ice is a disaster to acquire. No hot tub. There used to be one. But not maintained or functioning?

This hotel was probably amazing back in the day. Still cool, but dated. I was unaware that there was no air conditioning - which was my fault but was an issue! Carpets need to be updated, again, nice but just very dated. Nice grounds. Wish I would have seen it new.

The main problem was that our room was not ready when we arrived, admittedly early. When we checked back, shortly after check in time, still not ready. We had planned to eat dinner there, but left to see some of the waterfront and got the call 15 minutes later. The room was mostly fine but the back window let in a lot of light, and the bathroom fan wasn’t functioning. No result from a call to the front desk. Overall, the room was comfortable and the bath towels thick and new.
