My body itches when I am in bed. No folds in the sheets = does that mean they haven't been changed for a long time?
After the itching, I looked at the reviews and found many hygiene-related reviews. This is true, e.g. stains on towels. The location is great, close to the ferry terminal, but there is room for improvement in terms of hygiene. The building is old, but I understand that they are trying to improve it.
Do they cut corners in areas that are not visible?

No air conditioning in the main area of the hotel. Its more like a hostel than a hotel and that too of 1 star. Bed sheets were dirty n had hair in them. Floor was dusty, towels were brown from being worn out. The windows are not noise canceling so you hear all the noise from the street. There were huge cobwebs in most corners of the room. The tv is 17 inches and all the furniture is way too worn out to be even used. Stay as far away from this place as possible.

Nice hotel near the Ferry Terminal

Great location for a hotel with restaurants and the ferry to Zanzibar.

Safe & Convenient downtown location for travel to Arusha and Zanzibar.
Within walking distance of amenities.
Very kind and accommodating manager & staff.

The stay was characterised by a nice welcome at the reception. The room is clean but aircon, TV and water heater were not working. The room was extra hot and no bottle of water is offered, neither coffee/tea making utensils. What affected me most are the mosquitoes, I couldn't sleep. While the infrastructure is good, management is doing little to keep the standard. The breakfast is generally not good for a 3 star hotel.

This is a safe, reliable and helpful place to stay close to the town centre. I always stay here. It’s good value.

Decent hotel as expected from Lonely Planets description. Friendly staff, rooms clean and basic. You have a fan and AC which is a plus. Hot water was quite reliable. Standard good breakfast.

I wanted to move to another hotel bc it is a dorm shared room hotel. Since no one was there with COVID, the owner accommodated me to my own room. It is basic and inexpensive for a night transit.

Our stay in the Executive 2 bedroom apartment at Rainbow hotel was absolutely TERRIBLE . It was filthy dirty with bad odor and dust all over the place. The fridge had mold and very smelly. The concierge attendant who accompanied us upstairs was in shock and quickly went to get a broom to sweep the floor and dust off the tables . The windows weren’t able to open for fresh air. There were no toilet paper. The bedsheets were dirty and smelly. There were stains all over the walls. It was really disappointing. The AC weren’t working the front desk lady had to come up with the remote to turn them on. Thank god We only stayed there for one night since we were in transit after a long road trip from Mombasa Kenya. I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone.

AWESOME PLACE TO STAY AT A BARGAIN PRICE
I stayed here 5 different times in on my five-week holiday to Tanzania, each time in a different room. All of them were clean and well kept, the wi-fi worked great and the hot water was better than even the more expensive places I’ve stayed at.
Located within easy walking distance to the Zanzibar Ferry, Kivukoni BRT Bus Terminal and three of the best restaurants for barbequed chicken in all of Tanzania.
But the best thing about the Rainbow Hotel is the Service. The manager was great for information and when he didn’t have the answers, he would find out for me. He set up my Covid test then had one of his employee’s walk me to the three different places I needed to go to have the sample taken. Thank You Mahmedhasim I would not have been able to get it done before my flight without your help!

Rainbow hotel was an excellent place to stay for affordability in the heart of the cbd. Easy walk to colonial sights; you'll need a taxi or uber to Masaki. Manager at front desk extremely capable and always available to help; friendly bell staff. Clean room, powerful AC, nice breakfast.

It’s close to the ferry to Zanzibar. The rooms are nice, and is close to shops and restaurants.

It was generally good, quite place in the evening and good breakfast and friendly personnel. We enjoyed staying at Rainbow Hotel.

Very nice hotel in convenient and safe central neighborhood (within walking distance to the Zanzibar ferry though the hotel also offers free van transfer to the pier). As a budget option for a private room, I would definitely stay again.

Good location if one is taking ferry to Zanzibar. Bathroom needs curtain as it or visible from the adjoining high rise office block.

Nice Staff ... close to ferry.. a few restaurants around

Simple, easy for ferry transit but nothing special

No good wifi, cleanness poor, night bugs, all or at least leaking faucets/ shower mixers. Mold on shower tiles. Towels and beddings are old but also not cleaned well. Some locks are broken Wall and room Furnitures are very old. In summary, This place looks like nothing which is marketed on hotels.com. Hotels.com should have any of the free calling apps. Lost lots of money calling customer care in vain and gave up. I wanted to cancel this portion of booking.

We slept here for a few hours between arriving in Dar and taking the ferry to Zanzibar. It was perfect for this! If youre looking for luxury, its not here, but this place was fine, bug free! The port/ticket office to Zan is a 5 minute walk and the hotel staff even accompanied us to help purchase tickets and avoid being ripped off.

Only thing worth the trip was the Ferry ride to and the tour of Zanzibar

I stayed only two nights but I did not find much right with the hotel. The wifi was not working, no hot water in the room, air-conditioning was mouldy and smelly, the mattress was incredibly hard and breakfast was very bad.
In general the place is not looked after, the rooms are mostly unsold and staff enjoys sitting on the floor a bit everywhere.
It does not matter how little you charge, some basic standards must be met.

Average to just below average hotel. Not a good value for your money. Internet did not work and shower was shady.

The hotel was centrally located, affordable, and clean. Breakfast was okay, and overall we enjoyed the facilities. The hotel shuttle is unreliable though. We had placed a request for a shuttle beforehand, and got stood up; we ended up hailing a local cab from the airport. When we mentioned this to the desk clerk, she reacted with complete apathy. This does not build trust. For this reason alone, we would likely find somewhere else to stay if we visited again, and would not advise others to stay here either.
