Although some rooms might need a bit of renovation, the YHA is great value for money and ideal for activities in the area.

Staued for the second time, great location and very friendly staff. Room was great and breakfast was excellent. Will definitely stay again

Everything about our stay here was super. Lovely location, clean and comfortable, delightful grounds, good foodd, both for breakfast and particularly for evening meal.
4.1
Great location within walking distance to Castleton .
The bunk bed was comfortable but a bit on the noisy side when you turn over .
We had the option for breakfast and it was cooked very well and tasty .

Room was mucky, cobwebs, dirt on the floor. Staff took ages signing us in, did not give breakfast times, came down 9:15 too late for breakfast. For £110 a room, I was very disappointed and also the pipes or something were so loud throughout the night so very little sleep.

Great location - a short walk into Castleton

The hostel was nothing like in the description! The beds was uncomfortable, spiders all over in the room. The receptionist ask to strip the bed before we leaving. We have booked a bedroom for 2 persons. When we arrived the receptionist told us we can’t get the bedroom we booked for because a school trip going on in the hostel so we need the stay in another building next to the hostel which was totally separated, that building was empty, no other guest or anyone so we was really scared with my sister plus they wanted to charge us 10£ extra because of the bigger room what we didn’t book for. The receptionist said there will be kitchen open to buy dinner so we decided with my sister to go and get some dinner but when we went the receptionist said unfortunately there isn’t any food just only pizza which is small size and was costing over £10. He said to us if we not happy we can go to the Castleton village which is 20 min walk to get something to eat. We had to walk from the hostel to the main gate which takes about 12min in total in the middle of the “park” (because the hostel is in the middle of a private park) without any light. There is no light or anything so in the darkness we had to turn on the flashlight on the phone for we can at least see the way after all this we walked like about other 10 min till the village next to the main road there was one side only fields and other side kind of small forest. It wasn’t a great experience at all specially only 2 girls alone.

Really great location for hiking and Castleton is beautiful. However the walls in the hostel are paper-thin, and we were placed in a room next to a family. We were awoken every morning at 6 am throughout our entire stay.

Lovely building with some amazing restored original features. Very clean bedrooms and communal areas. Helpful and friendly staff.

The youth hostel is in amazing grounds and some of the public areas are very regal (like the lounge with leather sofas). The staff were welcoming and helpful. Of course, you don't expect luxury in youth hostels, but when you are paying £98 a night with no breakfast, then something is not right with the pricing. The ensuite bunk bed we had was in real need of redecoration and there was just tepid water in the tiny plastic shower room. Honestly, that would be fine, as this is what you expect of a sector catering to young people who might not have a lot of money. But if you are older and can afford nearly £100 a night, I would advise going to a nearby hotel in Castleton instead.

Don't expect any chance of checking in earlier than 5pm - reception is shut (literally, shutters down). Reception staff ignored me as I waited 15 minutes before. The male member of staff who checked me in was bizarre, condersending.
No evening meal option as they weren't offering it. No notification of this prior to arrival.
Room ok, basic. Comfortable bed.

Friendly and helpful staff.
The only downside was the condition of the road surface near the building. Huge potholes that are not well visible at dusk.

We really enjoyed our trip to the YHA castleton. The hall had gorgeous grounds and was only a short walk away to the village. They had a lovely lounge with a log burner lit, where we played cards for a bit. Overall our stay was perfect for what we wanted.

I used the train and it was an easy walk to the hostel. Good clean self catering kitchen. Love the library and doctor who tardis.
One fault was that was tv on at breakfast and the YHA were not allowed to tune into BBC

What made this place amazing was the staff. They were absolutely wonderful, so friendly and could not do enough to help us with our queries and requests. The service was just wonderful and we cant wait to visit again.

I didn't like the restriction on opening window, i wanted to open it more. I didn't like the constant noise from a fan or generator right next to my room. I didn't sleep well. I didn't like the kitchen facilities not available first thing for an early start.

I had all I need in a very affordable price. Staff are helpful and very relaxing place. Location was the centre of Peak District so very good, and a lot to go walking from there. I left an item and they assisted me to send it back. Grateful

We just needed a place to sleep overnight so we could start early with out hike. The hostel closes at 22:00 but because we were coming from our day jobs, our schedule was tight. Abby agreed to wait for us until 22:30 and we really, really appreciate that!
Amenities are basic, and the two-bed ensuite room we had was quite small. But we're happy as it costs cheaper than other accommodations in such a touristy area and the gothic manor was so beautiful.

Good hostel in a beautiful location. We were very happy with the stay for the price we stayed.
Reception staff were helpful and friendly.
Only issue is that a 10am check-out is ridiculously early considering check-in is at 5pm.
Overall would happily stay again if in the area.
P.s. there was a chicken wandering around outside which was a highlight!

Great location and enough space in the room.
Staff very friendly and enjoyed my stay.
It was a particularly hot couple of days and the room stayed very warm at night as the window was limited to how far it opens.

The Youth Hostel is value for money, but not better than that. Mainly, very friendly staff but sadly needed a lick of paint, away from the public areas.

The property is beautiful and really well situated, both for walks and accessing Hope and Castleton by foot. Having so many sheep as neighbours was also a pleasant surprise! Wonderful stay, I can see myself coming back.

It was clean and comfortable quiet location, walking distance to exceptional pubs and restaurants in town ,offering far superior eating options that could be found on site.
