This hotel was quite the experience. Our initial impressions of the small room were OK we can deal with it but over our stay of 4 nights, they didn't fail to make it worse. Our sheets and towels weren't clean to begin with and the room service gives you new sheets and towels that are stained as well. Don't plan on making any coffee/tea since they don't provide a kettle. We had to ask for toilet paper and it came half a day later when we were out, and they just put the toilet paper roll on the bed, didn't change it in the holder, not to mention the toilet leaks constantly. On our second day we came back and our room access was cut off for some reason and once we got back into our room, we noted that they hadn't cleaned anything even though we requested it. We came back at 5pm and it still wasn't cleaned so we had to go to the front desk to ask them to clean it while we left for dinner. Although the rooms are labelled non-smoking, you definitely smell smoke when you come into the building and sometimes when you walk on the floors. Also, wifi access randomly fails and the password on the information card in the room is incorrect, look for it on your room card. Don't pay for a city view, the window is literally a foot wide! The "smile" part of this hotel is non-existent. There is someone that sits at the front desk but you can't see them. They never say hello or anything! I don't have enough characters to finish my rant!

For what you pay, Smile Hotel is decent. Its a bit ghetto, though - neon flashing hotel sign, located down an industrial/business ally type street, stinky cigarette smell in lobby and rooms, and small cramped rooms. The staff is not too friendly (my hunch is that they have to deal with a lot of lowbrow types and thus have their guard up) but they are helpful. The first night I was awoken by some fighting (domestic violence) in another room but after complaining at the front desk and the hotel attendant confronting the couple, it stopped. The best thing about Smile Hotel is not anything to do with the hotel itself but this quaint little local country bar thats right across the street. Its a great place to grab a good meal, a few beers, and play a game of pool (snooker). The staff at the country bar are extremely friendly and make up for whats missing at Smile Hotel.
