Basic accommodation, clean but didn't smell that good and the bathroom could definitely do with a makeover (cracked sink, old shower). However, well located close to station and reasonable price.

I arrived late (after midnight) and was met by a super nice manager who got me sorted. The room was clean and spacious. It was on the front side of the hotel so traffic noise was inevitable in the morning.
4.2
Horrible - less than basic for nearly 100 pound a night complete waste of money
4.2
It was really pleasant stay at Royal Ashton, staff were very professional and friendly. Highly recommended.
4.2
A cozy and comfortable stay. This is our 5th stay at this hotel. More than happy to revisit next time.
4.2
Good central stay for Taunton, perfect for the cricket. Friendly staff and the conditions reflect the price, but it I was perfectly adequate. Slight issue with the shower constantly changing from hot to cold but nothing too bad
4.2
Room was filthy, chewed nails on the floor, mugs hadnt been cleaned etc walls filthy
4.2
A fantastic location , the staff were very friendly and helpful the young black lad . Our only complaint was the premium room on the top floor was so so hot and the portable fan was basically of no use .
4.2
The location is good. I was also very impressed at how cool my room was despite it being a heatwave. Bed was comfortable and shower was nice and hot. However there were some disappointing features. The decorative cushion on the bed had stains on it. So did the fabric chair and the rest of the furniture is old and worn. I was on the ground floor and there was lots of noise from other guests / doors slamming in the corridor as well a courtyard outside where the noise from other rooms echoed despite my window being fully closed. The room smelt weird too. It’s a basic no frills stay if you need to be close to the train station but I won’t be rushing back.

Clean and good value. Staff welcoming. Thank you!

Perfect for a one night stay in Taunton. 5 minute walk from the train station & close to the town. Lovely comfortable bed & immaculately clean room.
4.2
Very tired and not really clean room, on line check in did not work. After long day at work filling in forms that I had done on line at reception was not good. Bed was small and not comfortable. Fridge had been leaking left wet patch by toilet door, see pictures. Shower door broken and not cleaned and windows not working either at £72 not good value. Can't add photos link not working????

I stayed here for 5 nights. We were here for the Kings College Cricket festival. Overall super disappointed with the stay —
1/ The rooms are very tiny even for one person. Even if you are a single person staying, highly recommend to upgrade and get a bigger room.
2/ Room service does not come unless you ask them to specifically do something and they will only do that. For example towels change, trash clean up, coffee/milk restock, everything has to be mentioned.
3/ The first room I was booked to had the electric outlet broken so they had to move me to another room. The staff did help move some stuff, which is good, but would have been great if they inspect the room before assigning it to someone.
4/ Biggest issue - the room has lot of bed bugs and mosquitoes. It have at least 15-20 bites across both hands and both legs.
Yes it is better than Taunton House IMO, but there are far better AirBnB and Holiday Inn options. Never staying here if we end up coming to Taunton in future. Not recommending it to any visiting cricket academies. BTW I have photos of my arms and legs full of mosquito bites, hope Orbitz lets me upload it.

Staff was really helpful and location was within walking distance of many restaurants. Parking was a bit difficult.
4.2
Well located for the train station and cricket ground. However, it is on a busy road with plenty of pubs and takeaways a stone's throw away, so don't expect a quiet night. Can't sleep with the window open, but a good fan is provided. The window being closed did stop most of the noise.
Condition of the room could be better, could be worse. Bed was average. Walls are thin, could hear conversations happening next door.
Bathroom tap had hot and cold labelled the wrong way around. Soap had a strange scent, almost like rubber. Shower took a couple minutes for hot water to come through.
Overall, despite a few flaws, it's a fairly run-of-the-mill hotel and I'd consider staying here again.
4.2
Excellent location for train station and cricket ground.
Staff very welcoming and accomodating.
Rooms basic but reflective of cost. I would definitely stay again if in Taunton

I've stayed in this hotel a couple of times and it has always been good. It's just a few minutes' walk from the train station, which is ideal if like us you don't drive. There are a good selection of amenities in the room such as kettle, fridge, TV, etc. The staff seem friendly. The hotel doesn't serve breakfast but there a few good options nearby.

Perfect location for a short stay in Taunton; excellent staff and warm welcoming;

The hotel was very clean and the bed was comfy with lots of good pillows. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Small thing, but the mirror in the bathroom was too high and small, and the wifi was a bit patchy.
4.2
Very convenient for station and cricket. Always helpful and friendly staff.

We were greeted really warmly and had a lovely surprise of a sudden unexpected upgrade and gift on arrival to our room when we mentioned that we had been married the day before. We were also able to book in early afternoon which was very welcome.
4.2
Really happy with our stay in the Ground Floor Flat. Layout gives space and privacy for an extended family, especially when connected to adjoining room. Very happy with the price paid on a 'cost per person' basis. Everything seemed newly refurbished and, while fittings were not luxury, everything was clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and location was very convenient for what we needed - ideally between the railway station and cricket ground - albeit not the most picturesque part of the town.
4.2
Convenient for Rail Station and Town Centre

perfect location, super-friendly and helpful staff, comfortable bed, only windows & walls are paper-thin
4.2
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
4.2
Need to change out the electric showers which are unless/poor/ no pressure either too hot or too cold.
Friendly staff and comfortable facilities.
Maybe not return due to the shower situation.
4.2
Overall good experience ,most importantly the approach of the team is very positive and very helpful

After geftting over the fact that it was not a hotel with meals available, as advertised on Taunton page and maps, the place was comfotable with plenty of close cafes and restaurants nearby. Also excellent were all the staff we met, very helpful indeed.
4.2
The room was warm and well appointed and larger than it looked on the website. A comfortable bed and I loved the deer paintings on the wall! The shower room was new and immaculate. No wasteful miniature shower gels, etc, as this was provided in a bulk dispenser, which gets eco-points in my view. The service was friendly and very helpful, down to providing herbal teas when I asked. Round the clock in person presence. Extremely close to the station and excellent value, with a very affordable room rate.
4.2
Nice hotel and super staff. My only moan is that the window blind in 38 hangs far enough away from the window to allow the lights from cars, street lights and traffic lights comes in meaning that you have to move the bed to help.
4.2
As stated earlier good value
4.2
Very convenient for rail and shops etc. This stay marred by noise including room fridge. Cooking smells. But will return
4.2
Reception very helpful, hotel very tidy, everything ok. Only quibble, a few small flies in the room which I killed off. No parking but easy to use the railway station car nearby.
4.2
This is possibly the worst hotel I’ve stayed in, the bedroom was so small you could hardly move around it. The double bed was only accessible from 1 side.
The bathroom was the size of a small toilet, this included, a sink on the top of a toilet cistern, a toilet that you had to pen the shower door to use.
The room had just been painted but the room had not been cleaned properly after completion.
I fail to see how Hotels.com could rate this as an 8.6 in my opinion and as a gold member it should be no more than a 4. How do I seek compensation?

I called in at the hotel while passing at 10.00 a.m. to tell them I would be quite late arriving that evening. They were so friendly and helpful and even gave me the key to my room, a quiet one that I had requested. Very pleased.
4.2
This was a last minute booking - on arrival we were offered a ground floor room at the front on a busy road- luckily the staff member on duty offered an alternative further back, which was very quiet
4.2
Basic, functional, clean, perfectly situated for train station and cricket ground, short walk to town centre.
4.2
It was good

Stayed for 5 nights at an apartment. Room is cosy and warm. Friendly & helpful staffs makes the stay extra comfortable. Supermarket, restaurant, take aways and city centre are all within easy reach. Staion only 5 mins away on foot. Will stay again definitely

Firstly this was not an arranged stay as stranded due to trains. I thought as the name sounded quite regal and over £100 a night this hotel was a decent stay.....i was mistaken. The staff were amazing and very accommodating but i need to emphasize the room we had was not the same standard as some rooms i had seen on going into the hotel. We had a family room consisting of a double and single bed. The family room only had 1 mini sofa and the room was large but i had to sit on the bed as kids only fit on the small ikea sofa. The childrens wardrobe Ikea again would be too smal for a longer stay. The room on the 2nd floor which had no lift, my fault for not checking but only saw this after the booking otherwise i would not of stayed, it was also at the front on the main road which was very noisy and i could not open the window due to more noise. The hotel is old and has creaky floorboards so we were all woken at 1 am by the occupant above moving around. The fridge in the room made noises too. The room was run down and dated. All white seemed too clinical, wires of extensions leads everywhere, 1 which was around the bathroom door was hanging. The carpet was worn and the single bed was missing 2 wheels so was angled. The bathroom smelt of Urine, toilet roll holder loose, the shower holder was broken so you had to hold the shower to shower which was hard with children. No breakfast included in the price so this was very expensive and not worth the money.
