the stay was great. good location and very scenic view from the lobby. the hotel room is small but very nice and super affordable. the breakfast buffet was limited but still good enough; the price is a 1/4 of what i'm used to paying so i thought that was a deal.

I’m afraid I’m guilty of staying in many great hotels and never getting round to leaving positive reviews.
Unfortunately the Mercure Hangzhou has frustrated me so much into leaving a negative review. Whilst travelling in China and only having a small amount of conversational Manderin, you choose to pay a premium to stay in a Western (French) owned hotel with the expectation they speak English (or even French) Nobody speaks anything other than Chinese so everything is spoken into their phone to translate - which is effectively useless and incredibly aggravating.
You can’t charge breakfast or drinks to your room; apparently the bar/restaurant is a different company so individual charges for every transaction required - I’m not sure why they require a credit card deposit as you can’t use it for anything?!? Really don’t understand as bar is in the hotel lobby.
The rooms have unbelievably noising ventilation running all night keeping you awake. Trying to use the crazy light switches is “interesting”
As for customer service, I’m afraid it was just terrible start to finish. Management need to take a serious look at themselves and how they encourage the team to interact with their guests.

It was close to our convention venue (Intercontinental Hotel) and reasonably price. Good value for money. Staff were friendly.

The hotel stank of smoke. Even tho a newly built hotel the rooms looked tired and were not cleaned properly. Bathroom smelt of clorine.
Possitive, staff were nice and very helpful with the lanague barrier.

Actually, I was quite disappointed with the lack of English of some of the staff, as well as the cleanliness in the room. The shower glass was definitely not cleaned for a while and there was fluff in the room on the floor. The hotel has a wonderful view and nice facilities but lacks the basics to be a good quality hotel. As it is quite a new hotel, hopefully things will improve.

Stay here for no other reason than the views. Simple accommodations, simple breakfast buffet. Staff are friendly and trying. Have no idea why housekeeping must run vacuum in lobby at 730am everyday. Very Loud machine.
