It's always a pleasure to stay here at the Historic Phillips Motel. I'm up here twice a year for Tougefest. Will continue giving them my loyal business

Wonderful lad running the place. I came at the worst time, after the hurricane, no wifi, no cell service, no way for him to know for sure our card would work other than our word. Lovely small town inn, nothing special, but everything is very thoughtful. Homey feel.

We appreciated the stay here a lot! Very cozy atmosphere. We will certainly be looking to stay here in the future.

We booked the place for two nights purely based on good reviews, but unfortunately we had a different experience. Beds in the room we were in were old and extremely uncomfortable (sagged in the middle). Other furniture were old and falling apart s well. The bathroom was tiny and had barely any space to move around. Hot water flow was intermittent. Fortunately it was quite warm outside and cold showers were bearable. The shower cabin didn't have soap. The front desk person gave a used bottle of body wash (probably his personal one) for use. Historic or not, considering the relatively high room rate charged, we were hoping at least basic comforts were properly in place. We were not pleased.

The owner was friendly and gave dining suggestions for the area. The motel is old and deteriorating. The room had a musty moldy odor. The carpet was beyond worn out. The bathroom tile was broken and falling off. The grout was stained brown. In 4 days we never got clean towels. There was no body wash, shampoo, or conditioner in the shower. They never replenished cups or coffee. The bed was very stiff and creaked loudly when you turned over. The blinds were bent and damaged and the window air conditioner was filthy. They had a recliner in the room, but we didnt sit on it because of the stains others had left. Ourside the room there was old unwanted furnituture and exercize equipment in the parking space. We feel certain that if the health department inspected this place it would not pass inspection. though it was inexpensi e, I would NOT recommend staying here.

Not the fanciest place we've stayed at, but nice people and atmosphere, close enough to walk wherever you need, and always love supporting a local spot over some chain - 10/10 recommend

The owner, Bill is very proud of his Investment. As he should be, he's
put a lot of work into this 1960s style cottage motel. I like the homemade art on the grounds and headboard.
I didn't like the termite infested door jamb, tiny AND AN EXPEDIA AP THATS NOT SO HARD TO USE!!!!AC., sink next to bd0''s of termite put a lot of work

We'd previously stayed at Phillip's Historic Motel and Cottages when Ms. Jordan owned it. It was always clean, neat and tidy and she was always a delight to deal with. The motel is under new management now and is considerably run down. I took a cold shower on Saturday morning because there was no hot water, there was an old, discolored bath mat that looked like it had been used for years, and there were exposed wires in the overhead ceiling light. The TV didn't work and the owner's attitude towards us was nice one moment and then the next moment we seemed to be an inconvenience. At 10pm, when the owner and his girlfriend were sitting outside watching fireworks, I asked to use the dryer for 10 minutes. He rudely said, "You want to use the dryer in the middle of the night?" I didn't consider 10pm the middle of the night, especially when he and his girlfriend were clearly up and sitting outside. This will be our last time staying at Phillip's Motel. It certainly wasn't worth what we paid. We could have paid $20 more/night and stayed at a well recognized hotel chain a couple of miles away. We stayed there for old time's sake. We won't make that mistake again and we're disappointed to see the motel has become as run down as it has.

Very friendly staff and no pressure approach. They offer maps with the loops and for the money paid, the deal was good for a full house accommodating two families. The house was clean and everything provided worked. A bit dated maybe, but functional. Slept well.

The guy who checked me in was super friendly. The room however was disappointing. The blinds were broke, and no pillow cases?? There was a group of people outside my door that seemed to be having a good time. However they were so loud it felt like they were in my room. If you’re looking for a quiet place unfortunately this ain’t it. I really wanted to like this place becaus the front desk person was so nice.

Quaint Mom and Pop place. Super friendly staff.

It was not a bad room. Nice size. Clean enough. But to make me return they would need to add blackout curtains. The room is too light all night. Since I doubt they will change, I will not be returning.

Hotel is listed as “historic” when what they really meant is “old and run down”. Granted, it is an old building, charming on the outside. However, that is where charming ends. When I checked in, the first greeting that I received from the front desk person, who I am assuming was the owner, was “well I hope your shower is working”, and proceeded to tell me that the “very small shower” had been leaking into the room below so the plumber had come to install a new one. We then went to the room which had two very old queen beds with very used thin mattresses - one so squeaky I wouldn’t even sit on it, let alone sleep in it- with dilapidated old bedding, thin as a pancake old pillows, very old carpet, dirty coffee maker, frozen over refrigerator, and a “new” shower insert that one could barely stand in let alone turn around to wash oneself. Also it had slots for a stationary glass door that was not on the shower, but an old shower curtain hung in place. It was a chilly night, and the very old wall heater kept cutting off. They also went all out with Walmart towels. Location is across from the main school bus lot, and this morning the exhaust fumes from buses was very prominent in our room. Happily, we were only there for one night!

It was a cute little spot in the countryside, similar to a bed and breakfast. Proprietor was very helpful and friendly.

I paid under 300.00 but over 200.00 from Friday night to Sunday check out before 11:00am. We arrived around 4ish-maybe 5ish Friday- went to check in got a French lesson on my last name everyone gives me. And told if I wanted to purchase a shirt with a card I’d be charged an extra 13% unless I wanted to pay cash. He was just very snarky and thought it was personable. It wasn’t.
When we walked into 105 I was greeted with a medium sized German cockroach on the headboard of the right queen sized bed. A note on the night stand asking for tips by the housekeeper and with all the crumbs and a quarter on the floor. If they are asking for tips but leaving quarters I’m sure that room wasn’t cleaned. Oh and the toilet wouldn’t stop flushing in this broom closet they call a room. I sent my hubs to ask to switch rooms. Hubs said the front desk clerk tried to make an excuse about yard work stirring up the roaches?! Um ok¿? But we got switched to 106 on the other side. More space, brighter, seemed cleaner, no visible wildlife indoors. We checked the mattresses, box springs, headboards and frames for bed bugs and sprayed the place with Lysol.
It has a cover for bikes, it’s close to the dragon, has some nice eateries near by like the dole whip place, dirty by the dozen doughnuts, country gals and papas pizza around the corner pizza buffet.
Oh and you won’t be bothered about ANYTHING (ie no toilet paper or towels) unless you ask. Oh and crap tv channels.
Last, what history?

It's not the Hilton but it has all the functioning amenities, a comfortable bed and it was all old but immaculate. The owner and staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful.

The hotel is very old. There was an odor of raw sewage coming from the pipes in our room. The owner blamed it on the city. If it were a city issue why was it our room only. The electrical plugs were so wore out that they would not hold anything you plugged in. Also we had direct tv but others on the units in our side didn’t owner said we did something in ours to mess it up. ???? This place needs to be shut down due to health and fire hazards.

We were happy to stay there. Just like its name, historical place, well maintained.

The room had a kitchen with cockroaches. I informed the manager and he moved me to a house next door which was clean and I stayed 3 nights with no issues.

Really old property that needs updating. We were there for 4 nights and never saw housekeeping the entire time. Noisy neighbors with a large dog tied up outside their door on the sidewalk.

Chill, chill, chill. And a bit of nostalgia built in. Old school motel with baked in community comfort. On my next visit will not stay anywhere else within 30 miles.
