What a find! Our host Bill has done a remarkable job over the years of filling the home with interesting memorabilia. More like a museum than a bed and breakfast. Bill is very well organized and greeted us with a free parking pass and a full tour of the house. Never had trouble finding street parking right outside the door.
Many restaurants and bars are within 3 or 4 blocks and the hills give you a workout to wear off the food.

A pretty blue historical home in a row of colourful clapboard houses, Gower Manor is a friendly and convenient place to stay in downtown St. John's. Bill shares his home, which is filled with antiques and collectables. He enjoys meeting the people who come to stay with him.
I had the room at the top of the home with a comfortable twin bed, a useful antique oak desk, an antique dresser, an antique chair, and a glassfront antique bookcase. There was also an array of interesting artifacts.
Breakfast was continental: coffee, tea, hot chocolate, juice, hot or cold cereal, toast, yogurt. It is available "any time before lunch," to quote Bill.
I would highly recommend staying at Gower Manor, as long as you don't mind sharing bathrooms.

It would days to fully take everything in, as the the house is full of treasures. Also, I had the best, hottest bath in years. Perfect location to walking up Signal Hill and the coast.

Very good location, beautiful B&B, very kind owner!

Everything was great. Lovely house, good location, friendly host. I gave it a 4 because the breakfast was not what I usually expect for a bed and breakfast -- cold, serve yourself. On the other hand, we were free to eat when we wanted..... I would stay there again.

Beautifully kept B&B-interesting decor and lovely antiques. The host was helpful and very informative about this unique place to visit. It is centrally located to most places in the area and about 15 minutes from the airport.

The house is a beautiful old home with an eclectic decor of antiques. Bill certainly has an eye for interior design. Central to downtown SJ near restaurants, bars and the harbour. It is a short drive to Signal Hill and other attractions. A bit hot with no AC on a sweaty summer night but definitely a cool place to stay.

Beautiful historic B & B, makes you feel like you’re in a different time period. The place is so well taken care off. It also has a nice social room to meet other guests and a large kitchen where you could prepare some of your own meals. Nice and quick breakfast options to get you started for the day.

This was the best experience I've ever had while travelling!!!
The house is fantastic!! It has its style, the spirit of old European times, cozy and lovely. If I had an opportunity, I'd probably spend a week just exploring this house itself. It feels like you are living in a mini version of Downton Abbey or any other British movie.
The owner goes above and beyond to accommodate his guests and provides a real Canadian hostility.
The area around is nice to explore as well. You'll find many cute colourful houses around, restaurants, nature and night life.
I'm looking forward to when I can come back there!!
Highly recommend this place!

My 3-night stay in "Harry's Room" at the Gower Manor was fantastic. The beautifully restored house and the antique items were the highlight of the visit - just sitting in my bedroom or one of the sitting rooms, or walking down the stairs to go out the door, revealed interesting new details to enjoy.
In terms of amenities, my room was spacious and clean, and the bed was comfortable. Little touches like a basket to carry my toiletries to the bathroom showed a great deal of attention to guests' comfort and convenience. There were plenty of supplies for a simple breakfast (coffee, toast, cereal, muffins, etc.) every morning, and guests also had access to the kitchen and fridge to store and prepare their own food/drinks, which was appreciated.
Finally, Bill was a great host - he was friendly and available to answer questions, and it was lovely to chat with him about the house, things to do in St. John's, and restoring antiques. If you're seeking a comfortable bed and breakfast experience with unique character, I would recommend the Gower Manor!

Beautifully restored historical house with a huge collection of memorabilia, spacious room and shared bathroom. Spotlessly clean.
Breakfast is self-service and a bit meagre. Would have been nice to have some fresh fruit, eggs, or some bagels.

Staying in a museum is a fascinating experience. Even more so were the demonstrations of how some of the house and music worked. Every room is picture worthy and Bill is a very accommodating and entertaining host.

Gower Manor was an interesting historical property but having said so it did not have a/c nor could we open the window to get some airflow. It happened to be 29C and hot. It was convenient to have access to kitchen and self serve breakfast but I do appreciate the comfort of someones home and enjoy being served the breakfast as well as having chat around the table

Staying at the Gower Manor is like staying in a museum! It's unique. Every day I discovered new details.
Every part of the property is filled with collectibles and antiques. It's quite the trip to walk around it and take in souvenirs of royal occasions, gramophone records, old soda bottles... There was even a musket above my bed!
If you haven't stayed in a REAL bed and breakfast for a while, then this is truly a trip down memory lane to a time when all seaside hotels were like this. I'm from England and it is just a reminder of how life used to be.
Bill, your host, is a charming man who makes time to help with any questions or concerns. He took time out of his day to help me find a walk I was having trouble locating, and recommended places to eat.
My bed was more comfortable than I'd expected it to be; the room was very clean and full of restored furniture as well as memorabilia. There were glasses and plates in the cupboard. Breakfast is basic, but plentiful, with flexible times rather than the old standard of "sleep in and tough luck", and there is space in the kitchen fridge for guests to store their own food.
This place won't be for everybody. It's an old house, so there is no air conditioning, though a fan was in my bedroom and helped to cool me down. Some will find the museum vibe overwhelming rather than charming. If you've spent a lot of time in modern hotels, then a communal bathroom takes some getting used to.
If you Embrace Gower Manor, it's unforgettable.
