The service was slow in the bar, we waited 15minutes to order coffees. It seemed disjointed at the table, drinks had to be ordered from one person, but they weren’t allowed to take food orders. There was then a fair wait before someone took our food orders. The dining chair was smeared with food, resulting in us having to clean the seat / our hands, before we could eat. The bedroom carpet looked like it could do with a clean / freshen up, as could the shelves.

Lovely traditional old pub, with eclectic furniture. The rooms were basic and clean but with really good size single beds as brother are always happy to share a room. Have to say the shower was really poor in our room and it took nearly 5 mins to come hot. The star of the stay was the food, Jacob the chef is clearly a very talented cook. The Brisket Croquettes are to die for as was my Rump steak which was perfectly cooked as ordered. The down side was breakfast in a very dark and soleless room, coffee was the best either had been stewing for some time I suspect. Also big difference in the excellent evening staff and the not so happy breakfast staff. Still good value overall in a lovely village.

Stayed 2 nights in this charming little pub come hotel. Booking in and out was easy enough. Lady over seeing breakfast was first class hostess, breakfast was Yorkshire finest full English. Room was of good standard, can make cuppa, iron etc. All good amd recommend

A fantastic hotel in a beautiful location. Staff couldn't do enough for us from the contact on the phone before arrival to the minute we left. The room was very comfortable with lots of added extras. We had a lovely meal too and again the staff were exceptional. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Special thanks to the wonderful lady who served us. We loved the place so much, we have already rebooked!

Flipping wonderful place - best nights sleep for ages and the food is 10 out of 10 outstanding I thought & the best pint of Guinness I have had for years. Staff were fantastic. 100% I will be back :) *bathroom had a few old hairs, but I can live with that. amazing place

Lovely pub in a lovely village, handy for local towns and cities. The room was small but comfortable and needed a little updating. The pub food is apparently very good. Breakfast was very nice and the price was very reasonable.

We only stopped for one night as art of walking the Cleveland Way but it was a nice pub to stay in and we dropped on lucky as Monday night was half price on main courses in the restaurant. Breakfasts were great too!

Lovely little hotel that was pet friendly. Food good with good service especially at breakfast. Room very clean but shower was bit low pressured. Room small and very warm. Good place to stop on Cleaveland way.

As part of walking the Cleveland Way we booked to stay at the Royal Oak Hotel. We loved our stay and it lived up to our expectations. The room was great, Staff were friendly & helpful and the food was amazing. Thank you again for a lovely stay.

The room was nice, beds were comfortable although bathroom was a little cramped and the shower had mixer-taps which made this very difficult to get a temperature suitable for showering, especially for the children. Staff encountered during the stay were very approachable and friendly.
