The property, room and staff were outstanding, as usual, however we have noticed, as frequent visitors, over the last few visits that the quality of the restaurant product has deteriorated. My wife and I split the Pistachio Chicken Fried Steak on our last visit, December 2nd, which was overpriced given its toughness, bland taste and barely warm temperature. We highly recommend and strongly request that the menu be changed periodically and that extra effort is taken to make each item offered deliciously seasoned, prepared with excellence and served at the appropriate temperature. Tender, tastefully seasoned entrees which are served hot should be mandatory. A variety of salads, soups and appetizers should also be rotated monthly as well, with some staples such as a good Caesar and Classic Wedge salad. It is our hope you will invest more into the quality and variety of your menu. Thanks

Love the El Capitan! Second time staying and it won't be the last. It's an oasis of retro cool. Grateful for the restaurant and the front desk staff.

Wonderful, caring staff. My wife left her purse there and they mailed to us. We have stayed here everytime we travel from San Diego to Texas. Never disappointed.

The hotel and restaurant were delightful! Highly recommend.

A little gem. Very comfortable, clean, cosy. Very friendly staff and a great building. So much nicer than all the cookie-cutter chains. Ideally located when traveling from Big Bend NP to Guadalupe and Carlsbad NO’s

we had a Great Stay! real cool and well maintained iconic hotel, western vibes, great food, friendly staff and right off the 10 in Van Horn

Loved this hotel. Rooms were comfortable and clean. We had a balcony to the courtyard - people were in the courtyard talking until about 11:00 so not too bad. Best hotel continental breakfast I have had and we always book where there are free breakfast. If you like history - book at Holtel El Capitan.

This beautiful, historic hotel is immaculate. It's well worth the extra few dollars to stay here. We've stayed here twice, and both times it's been excellent. The dinners in the restaurant are exceptional. Last night we were entertained with live music in the gorgeous courtyard. We highly recommend staying here over the nearby chain hotels.

I’ve stayed here overnight while passing through west Texas. There is not much in the town, but everything you need is in the hotel. They have a surprisingly really good restaurant with indoor/outdoor seating, free breakfast buffet & the rooms are cozy. Beds are comfy!

We’ve stayed here many times. The rooms are small but very clean, nice bedding and towels. We had a very poor meal, waited 30 minutes and a portion of the meal was obviously older food mixed in with fresher ingredients. I sent my meal back, my wife did not, they took 20% off our check but really, they knew what they were serving. Our wait staff seemed scattered, we ordered a glass of wine and that took twenty minutes. Will stay here again this year but look elsewhere for dining.

This is one of our favorite stays on our way to many trips to West Texas. We will be returning.

This is a besutiful old hotel whuch is beautifully decorated. The room is small but has everything needed, and its so cosy, unlike chain hotels. The bed was comfy with clean bedding, AC functions well, the bathroom is so cute, classic character and the common areas are cosy and inviting. A great find for me on short notice while being on the road all day.

This is definitely a 5-star stay. Cleanliness was exceptional and the staff was helpful and friendly. We loved how it was decorated in fall and pumpkin decor. I felt like we had stepped back in time during its glory days. We are definitely coming back to this classy hotel and make it a point to include it in our West Texas travels.

We loved it! Everyone was so kind and the food was AMAZING!

The only setback for me was the overgrowth in the courtyard. Hide the grandeur of the Hotel.

The building is very old, which leads to the rooms being small. Especially the bathroom… you only have one place to stand, to the right is the toilet, the left is the sink, and straight ahead is the tub/shower.
The restaurant has good food, but is overpriced as unless you are in a group, you get ignored by the wait staff.
Getting to the hotel from the parking lot it is filled with gravel and pavement which hasn’t been repaired in several years. Very rough for dragging a bag to the hard to find lobby to check in

Oasis in the West Texas Desert. Do yourself a favor and stop into this affordable luxurious 5 Star historic hotel of Van Horn, TX next time you’re driving through. The complimentary breakfast with homemade tortillas and salsa alone makes it well worth the visit!

We were excited to find this place after a 5 week roadtrip and chain hotels. This was a special place to stay on our last night before heading home. Beautiful and comfortable king size patio room was perfect for our dog. Drinks and dinner on the patio and a restful evening. We will be back!

This historic hotel is the perfect place to stay at. A hidden gem in small deserty Van Horn. It's an upgraded facility with a historic feel that provides upscale accommodations. If we had time, we would've stayed at least another night. The small court yard is very inviting, quite and relaxing. The room has snall refrig & micro. Free good continental breakfast. We Highly recommend it when passing through.

Bathroom was REALLY Small. Reminded me of a cruise ship bathroom. Food was good but a bit on the pricey side. Breakfast wasn’t much. Property was truly unique and interesting but there was some traffic noise in the evening and also a Train Nearby that came through fairly often. The bed was super comfortable and the staff was lovely.

Very clean, historical building. Would definitely go back. Kept our shades closed as the view outside our window was trashy. If we stay again will upgrade to a bigger room with balcony. Nice restaurant/bar ( although we didn’t eat/drink there). Nice small gift shop area. Staff very accommodating and pleasant. Patio area in front of motel is gorgeous.

I stayed at this beautiful cutey hotel twice in one week. The cleanliness of the hotel is hands down , five stars. The need for improvement is the kitchen staff. On the first visit , my husband and I checked in at 945pm, just 15 minutes before close of the kitchen. The staff was annoyed that we came in to order at that time. They were cold, and unwelcoming . We stayed again there for a second time just 4 days within the first time, and this time ate their continental breakfast . The two little old ladies who were attending to the dinner, we unapproachable and were having their breakfast while the patrons at the hotel were trying to get their attention for assistance. One of the ladies, even helped herself to breakfast with her BARE HANDS. I asked for an order of breakfast sausage since there was none and she acknowledged the order. However, she went and sat down and continued her breakfast. I noticed it and gave it 5 minutes and then went to her and asked if I could pay for the order , because I needed to get going . Her reply to me was, “I don’t cook and we don’t have sausage” .
I was left in awe. We all have a side as a customer that we can let out or keep in. I decided I would just walk away and leave you with the choice of what you would do.
Take care ya’ll.

I've stayed at this hotel several times and each visit has been pleasant and comfortable. It's great to see an old hotel restored and operating these days.
