One of the best hotels, i stayed in Japan, everyone is VERY kind and breakfast is VERY COMPLETE.

Great hotel for the price. Centrally located in the heart of kyoto & close to all the metros. Service was excellent. Only complaint has to do with the booking itself. You only get 1 cleaning the whole stay. We upgraded to include daily cleaning because we have a baby & stayed for 7 nights. Some possible cons: mattress is not very comfortable & it’s right in front of a school, which can be noisy during the day.

Booked a standard double room for 4 nights, and it’s as tiny as usual like other hotels in Japan. The AC was mysterious set on some timer which caused it to switch off the AC completely in the middle of the night. We were woken up for two nights due to poor ventilation and heat in the room. It majorly affects our mood and energy traveling in Kyoto.

ront desk stared at me blankly, and thanked me - I’m certain that she did not understand me nor made an effort to do so. Someone else from the hotel overheard us and followed me outside to try to explain but things got even worst. I was told that there were in fact blackout curtains available for every guest and that the gentleman at the front desk that heard my request at first probably did not understand me. Now, I was traveling with Japanese people and they explained everything in Japanese and also thought that the fact that the hotel had no blackouts was very strange. Summarizing, the entire thing was odd, specially the last bit. Someone was definitely lying to us. I have been traveling throughout Japan for a while, staying at much simpler (and cheaper!!) places, where the attention to detail, cleanliness and communication have been incredibly better than at Oakwood. Nice hotel but there’s much to be improved. In the future, I will spend way less and stay at other places in Kyoto.

This was the best hotel room i stayed in whole of Japan. Big room, very clean, excellent bathroom, water pressure, guest service, breakfast, and location as its a short walk to Nishi markets. Highly recommended

The property was conveniently located and was very clean! Room was very spacious and bathroom was modern. Parking in surrounding area are well available but pricy. access to the local cuisine and markets are fantastic.
Free Breakfast for one was VIP benefit but it was two of us stayed. It was available for ¥2200. Pricy for the quality of food provided.
Overall, very satisfied stay!!

Lovely staff. Comfortable bed and pillows. Good washing machine. Small well stocked kitchen and hot plate. Good hot water in shower. Fast elevators. Very clean. Breakfast was sub par. Close to train stations. 30 mins from main train station. Walkable to lots of place to eat and coffee.

We enjoyed the facilities--BUT a big minus is that the hotel tried to up-sell us from the moment we walked in. We were offered a room with a better view for more money. We turned it down. Then they said that we were 2 hours away from our check-in time and could only check in immediately if we moved to a higher floor. The room type was exactly the same. From the website, you can see that there is no differentiation of floors in terms of charges - just room type. So why would there be a charge for a higher floor? I think they are just motivated to collect extra charges. Anyway, we wanted to get lunch quickly so agreed to pay the extra to be able to check in immediately. But it created a bad impression of the hotel for us.

Excellent hotel at fair price. Nice neighborhood and not too far from the Imperial Palace.

Great experience

The staff was really friendly and kind! I was short on cash for the local train and one of them kindly gave me some change. Very grateful!
My room was clean and great! The only thing I would say is that I could have gone with less cleaning! Granted, I forgot to put my « do not disturb sign », but my stay was really short and I didn’t need that many towels or PJ for the two days, specially being a solo traveler. I recommend a policy where you say for stays less than a certain number of days, no cleaning will be offered unless requested. Otherwise, great stay overall and I would definitely book with Oakwoods next time I am in town!
Breakfast was great too, though more vegan/vegetarian options could be offered. Because most hot items had meat, it would be great if the hash potatoes were offered daily.

Mr Goto of the reception desk is professional and friendly.

Very nice hotel, a bit of a walk to most of the main attractions, thirty minutes to Gion; however. Just a few blocks to the imperial palace and close to the shopping centre.

Room was great, although we had no view.

Rented e-bikes in front of the building. Highly recommended for getting around.

The hotel was clean and free drinks throughout the day was a great add on

Quiet and clean. It takes about 10mins in average walking to places such as train station good restaurants and Nishiki Market. Free breakfast (one guest per booking). Food is ok not so good not so bad per my opinion but it is free 😊. It is a plus. Room is clean every 3-4 days. They will give cleaning schedule you will have to pick the day for your room to be cleaned. Coin Laundry is available. It was a good experience to me

We had a lovely stay. Big and modern room, comfortable, own little kitchen and even washing machine. Very friendly staff and service. We would come back anytime.

A very central and easy to locate hotel from the bustling centre of Kyoto. I was able to walk everywhere from the hotel in less than 20-30 mins, it was also easy to find the nearby stations to travel to Kyoto station or other areas. The room was very spacious (one person in a 2 bed room) especially for Japan standards. The room was clean and tidy and the shower was large and the shower head was very powerful and relaxing. The TV had Netflix which I greatly appreciated after days of walking. The only thing is that the room was a little dry; I do have sinus issues which get flared up in aircon and very dry air environments so would be great if I could have opened a window or the air was less dry (note I sleep with a big humidifier at home so it’s probably fine for normal people)

The hotel was hard to find when I got off the bus (public transportation). I'm an older person who had somewhat limited technology tools on my phone and spending 30 minutes wandering around looking for your hotel was frustrating.
You can't assume everyone travels with "Google type maps". Some signage on the main public transportation system would be helpful.
The (male) front desk evening person wasn't overly friendly in comparison to the two morning (female) staff who were very friendly and helpful.
Good breakfast. Thanks.
