It's a wonderful hotel with professional and welcoming staff who are always ready to help. The room was well-maintained and clean in a way I had never seen before.

We absolutely LOVED our stay at the Marufukuro. A real gem of a boutique hotel. Attentive service, gorgeous bar, close to a metro stop and beautiful rooms. It was the highlight hotel of our 2 weeks Japan trip.
Our guest relations manager Chou was super friendly and knowledgable. The hotel is less than 5 mins walk to Shichijo Station on n the Keegan line, with easy access by train directly to Gion, Pontocho, Kiyomizu Dera Temple, and Inari temple. As well, the same line goes all the way to Osaka. It’s a straightforward walk of 15 mins to Kyoto station for Shinkansen, or a quick taxi ride.

Absolutely amazing hotel full of history! The complementary features were such a pleasure and the hotel staff were brilliant. A short walk to the station kept us well connected. Really beautiful location and property - cannot recommend enough!
2.5
The best hotel I have ever stayed at - beautifully and thoughtfully renovated all the way through.
We were recommended by friends to go here, and Marufukuru did not dissapoint!

This hotel is incredible - if you are interested in the history of Nintendo before Mario came along, you will fall in love with the library and all of the wonderful touches around the hotel. Staff all so friendly and welcoming! Highly recommended.

I am a self-proclaimed hotel snob and I absolutely loved Marufukuro, would definitely stay here again. Not only were the staff extraordinarily kind, the property has so much history which they clearly care about, everything was so clean. I cannot say enough good things, thank you Marufukuro for such a wonderful experience!

It was wonderful experience to stay at Marufukuro

The service was amazing, and the hotel room and amenities were excellent. The Nintendo history was fascinating and done tastefully. I highly recommend staying here.

We loved our stay and wish we could have stayed longer! The staff at reception were fantastic and helped however needed. Our room was clean and beautiful, and the bed was comfortable. We appreciated access to the bar and library- it was a great spot to quietly end the night. There were many amenities provided in the room. The room key was obviously unique, and we were happy we could buy a copy of the keychain at checkout. The hotel was in a quiet area and off the beaten path, so we did use a taxi frequently. Some taxi drivers weren’t sure where to take us based on hotel name alone, so I usually put the address in Maps and then they used my phone to get us there. We would absolutely stay here again!

I recommend this hotel to everybody who visit Kyoto. You should stay in the hotel rather than going out. There are lots of hidden joys everywhere in the building. Please enjoy the beauty of it.
We, Japanese must appreciate the fact that such a beautiful building is kept and we can actually stay ! I'd love to come back soon.

The staff were extraordinarily kind and helpful! I lost a bag on a bus and the staff at Marufukuro went out of their way to help us retrieve it.
The hotel itself was stellar! Clean, spacious, and the vibe of the lobby/museum were immaculate.

Perfect cute boutique hotel. We stayed at 102, which is the most amazing traditional suite. Employees are also amazing… the only issue: there was water pouring/dripping sound every morning at 6:25am which woke us up. Nothing to complain or reduce a star but it would be nice if it was fixed

A beautiful boutique hotel in a historical landmark. The hotel is located in a picturesque old neighbourhood with a short walk to Kyoto museum, temples, and many dining options. The rooms are well designed while keeping the parts of the original interior. The amenities are excellent with many complimentary drinks and snacks both in the room and common areas. The staff is very friendly and professional. The restaurant offers both Japanese and Western breakfast options and accommodates dietary restrictions, including vegetarian. A definite place to stay while in Kyoto.

We were delighted to stay at this beautifully appointed hotel. The staff was exceedingly courteous and helpful, accommodations were low key luxurious. Great location, we walked to everything

Great hotel. Quiet. Friendly staff. Nice lounge. Nice perks like free water.

The design and deco of the hotel is top notch. Room is nicely decorated and thoughtfully design. The renovation done perfectly to maintain the heritage of the building at the same time creating a comfortable living space with the input of luxurious feeling and technology.
However, the staff and service is not up to par with the hardware, especially when you’re not Japanese or caucasian. During check in, the front desk will direct you to a room and while other guest were being carefully explained and tour for the hotel, I was just ask to be seated and wait, after sometimes, someone brought us to the room and point to us the way to the library and lounge on the way.
I really appreciate the concept of self-service bar, but I also appreciate if someone could replenish items like ice or towel or dip mats for the bar, but it was not happening.
Dinner and breakfast was ok, staff were busy cooking and decorating the dishes for the whole meal and seriously I didn’t felt any kind of service or interaction were happening.
I skipped the lunch because the whole experience is not very welcoming. After staying in so many hotels and onsen ryokan in Japan, it’s actually the first time I felt that.
I surely understand some of the guest would like service not too attentive and have more personal space, but I also believe basic politeness and pay attention to what’s their guests need is something very basic, and those were lack in this hotel.

Staff excellent, surprisingly good breakfast, close to the train and buses. Walking distance from Kyoto station, Higashi Hongan, and Tōji. Next to the line that takes you to Osaka in something like half an hour.

First of all, the interior is superior. Designed by Ando Tadao, and the cleaness of the hotel is on point. The service was amazing and it was also inclusive. So the hotel minibar is all free and the lounge’s food is all free as well ( wine and beer )
We will definitely go back when i visit Kyoto again.

The staff were all very nice and accommodating. We got there early because we were super hungover but they let us into the room early and the place was pretty fancy.

The hotel, meticulously restored by renowned architect Tadao Ando, is a masterpiece of design, embracing the spirit of the Showa era with exquisite art-deco detailing. This architectural elegance seamlessly translates into a delightful ambiance at Carta, the restaurant within, complementing our enjoyment.

Amazing amazing hotel! Room and staff were the best.

Absolutely amazing - the best hotel I’ve stayed in and made for a memorable Kyoto visit. The service was incredible and there was something extra special about staying in a part of Nintendo history.
We’ll return again as soon as we can.

This hotel is very nice, super quirky and there’s a lot of included extras which is always a nice touch. But it’s not all wonderful. The area is quite a way from where you’d want to be in Kyoto and there’s very few shops around.
Also the staff are very young and inexperienced with poor English (which is needed in a hotel like this). They tried their best but the hotel needs at least one “adult in the room” and it was sorely missing here. I’d definitely come back to Kyoto, but I’m not sure I’d come back here

I had a great few days here, this place preserves the original features of Nintendo, it has a lot of history and great design, I really like it. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, the surroundings are also quiet. I can enjoy drinks every day and there is even a late-night snack. I really love it here. Staying here is truly wonderful.

I had an amazing experience here. The staff were very friendly and gave me a small tour of the hotel with some facts about its history, and the room was very spacious and comfortable.
It’s an experience unto itself, so I stayed within the hotel most of the time for the night that I was there. Would recommend to everyone and would definitely stay again.
