About this villa rental
Villa Amphora gives you a taste of the real Lesvos. It is a traditional villa, owned by a local oil trader, which was completely refurbished in 2018, adding modern bathrooms, open plan modern living and comfortable furnishings. It boasts a gorgeous, inviting exterior with fabulous green shutters and woodwork. The villa is set within a delightful garden just 200 metres from the eastern end of the famous Agios Isidoros Beach, close to Plomari. The pebbly Agios Isidoros Beach is known for its crystal clear waters and beautiful environment. It is one of the longest beaches in Lesvos, perfect for snorkelling. Villa Amphora is surrounded by pine and olive trees, offering you a tranquil, secluded holiday. With three bedrooms, the villa is ideal for a family or group of friends.
Lesvos is the third largest Greek island and boasts sensational scenery, award-winning beaches, ancient, traditional, picturesque villages, a huge array of wildflowers and birdlife, lush pine forests, medieval castles, olive groves, scenic, colourful harbours, plenty of museums, a gourmet dining experience and some of the warmest, friendliest people in all of Greece. With stunning natural attractions, including a petrified forest and hot springs, its wonderful landscapes are waiting to be explored on donkey or horseback, by foot, jeep or cycling. The island hosts numerous festivals which can be enjoyed along with its gorgeous beaches, fascinating archaeology, stunning scenery and a laid-back lifestyle. The island is famous for its ouzo, its monasteries, its castles and its mountains. Plomari is a very pretty, colourful town on the south of the island where you can enjoy the authentic Greek countryside life. It is the ouzo capital of Greece as well as offering a pretty harbour, stunning beaches, delicious cuisine and a very friendly atmosphere.
Villa Amphora’s open plan living space is bright and airy, with splashes of blue accents amongst the brilliant white walls and cream kitchen. The traditional, beamed ceiling is delightful. It is a very sociable room so that the chef in your group always has company as well as excellent appliances to cook up a storm. Also on the ground floor is one of the family bathrooms, beautifully tiled. Doors open from the living space to a delightful swimming pool amongst the olive trees and other plants. It is very restful with plenty of sun loungers to settle on with your holiday books. There is private parking for guests secured with an electric gate.
An attractive staircase takes you upstairs to the villa’s three bedrooms, two double bedrooms and one twin, though those beds are next to each other, forming a large double. Each of the bedrooms enjoys minimalist decor and lovely natural colour hues. The remaining bathroom enjoys a jacuzzi bath for an indulgent soak. The villa also enjoys a small balcony with a gorgeous sea and garden view. The village of Agios Isidoros and its wonderful beach are just moments away. Location:
Villa Amphora is surrounded by pine and olive trees, just 200 metres from the beautiful Agios Isidoros Beach. The villa is not far from Mytilene Airport so you will be relaxing in your characterful, traditional villa in no time! The villa is located close to the picturesque town of Plomari, the ouzo capital of the whole of Greece.
The beautiful island of Lesvos boasts gorgeous scenery, plenty of medieval castles and ancient monuments, charming, picturesque villages and plenty of museums. The most famous museum is The World of Ouzo Museum, which is close to the villa. It is situated in Isidoros Arvanitis in a fabulous olive grove, just a few minutes from the village of Plomari. The distillery has been going for more than 120 years and exports its delicious ouzo to more than 30 countries around the world. Visitors can taste and buy the delicious ouzo. Other fascinating museums on the island include the Archaeological Museum of Mytilene, the Vranas Olive Press Museum, the Iakovidis Digital Museum and The Museum of the Petrified Forest which was founded in 1994 to research, promote, display, preserve and protect the unique forest. The Petrified Forest, 12 km from Sigri, is a rare natural site that was officially declared a natural monument in 1985. It was petrified because of the intense volcanic activity of the area. The forest and ouzo are two main things the island is known for. The Vranas Olive Press Museum in Kaloni is housed in a beautiful industrial building built by Nikolaos Vranas, the grandfather of the poet Odysseas Elytis.
Lesvos’ hot springs, health-inducing spas are dotted around the island. Many have been used for thousands of years for rheumatism, arthritis, gynaecological and dermatological ailments as well as kidney and gallstones, neurological ailments, bronchitis and sciatica. The main locations are Efthalia, Thermes and Gera. The island’s landscape is rugged with mountains and lush forests. If you visit the island in the spring, you will be rewarded with one of the most amazing displays of wildflowers and wild birds you will ever see. Lesvos is a major stop in the migration routes of European birds coming from Africa. Although there are many birdwatching spots around the island, the most famous is the salt lakes close to Kalloni, in the centre of the island. The island is renowned for its high-quality olive oil as well as its ouzo. Lesvos is sprinkled with many picturesque villages. The village of Molyvos is a must-visit for its spectacular views of the Aegean Sea. An imposing medieval castle sits above the village where it used to protect the village from invasions. You can take some lovely boat excursions from Molyvos. The ancient walls of Molyvos were once besieged by Archilles himself. Other pretty villages include Mytilene, Agiossos and Skala Sikamias. The seaside town of Sigri is very popular, a remote outpost of Greek island tourism. Other attractions include the Castle of Mytilene, the Monastery of Saint Raphael, the Ipsilou Monastery, The Ancient Theatre of Lesvos and the Roman Aqueduct, which dates from the 3rd century AD. The Castle of Mytilene was originally built in medieval times but has undergone many transformations by the Genovese and the Turks.
The 23 beaches of Lesvos are usually small pebbled bays, some totally secluded even in the high season. As well as being just a couple of minutes from Agios Isidoros Beach, Villa Amphora is close to Ammoudeli Beach, 9.8 miles from Vatera Beach, 3.3 miles from Melinda Beach and 6 miles from Tarti Beach. The stunning Vatera Beach is as long as many of the Cyclades islands themselves. Vatera, Petra and Molyvos beaches offer excellent watersports and are organised with plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas. You could almost fit any of the Cyclades islands in the Bay of Kaloni.
There are so many other fascinating ancient buildings, churches, monasteries and museums to visit on Lesvos. You really need at least two weeks to discover this amazing island fully!
