About this house rental
If you are looking for a place to relax, you will love the upper level of this 2006 built stilt home! It is a tropical paradise retreat with over 45 feet of waterfront direct-access gulf frontage for your own personal enjoyment. This private property on the coastal canal waterfront is situated on a quiet seaside residential cul-de-sac with only seven other homes. The sandy beach style 'yard' has a large patio and dock overlooking a 90-foot wide natural canal known as 'cow creek'. About 100 yards to the west of this property is the open gulf. To the east lie natural canals with freshwater springs. Water views from most rooms.
There is a very private feel to this area with lots of water and trees and lush landscape. However, if you feel like getting out, there is plenty of dining, shopping, golfing, and night life to enjoy within a mile or so of the house. The home is fully furnished with a Queen size bed in the Master, two twin beds in the second bedroom, a fold-out loveseat sleeper and large sofa in the great room/living room. The dining table in the great room is also a pool and ping-pong table!
Sit at the tropical back patio with firepit and barbeque and you will view nature at its best! Many varieties of Ocean fish and Sea birds: Manatee, Dolphin, Sheepshead, Mullet, Gar, LadyFish, Snook, redfish, small stingray, turtles, sea otters, Pelicans, Ducks, Heron, egrets, Osprey, Eagle, Woodpecker, Blue Jay, and much more. This bay is a fisherman's paradise with a bait shop just a short walk down the lane! The water in this salt water and spring-fed canal is remarkably clear and fish can be seen most any time from the patio and decks. there is a 10 x 12 foot dock for your your boating and swimming holiday pleasure. You will also have use of my Mad River Canoe with stabilizers to explore miles of nearby ocean and spring fed waterways, tropical lagoon, and wetlands. There are also 4 kayaks and 2 inflatable paddle boards. If you want to rent a motor boat they are available at the port of Hudson marina less than one mile away, or a few other marinas in the area, or feel free to bring your own boat.
You will be renting the upper level of the home and western half of the yard and beach. The separate lower level unit and east portion of the property is used by me (the owner). You will have the west portion and half the 90 foot waterfront for your own personal enjoyment. I have a separate entrance to my own living space, so I won't disturb your privacy. Please note that the base rental price is for 2 people, or one person and one pet. Additional persons, or pets are $15 per individual, per night.
Large and small dogs and cats will be accepted with the same fee as an additional boarder ($15 per night, per pet). We do extensive cleaning/disinfecting between rentals. You will be responsible to keep your pet leashed and clean up their waste. Pet Flea prevention is highly recommended in Florida any time of the year.
Smoking is allowed only outdoors and in the covered screened porch areas. I've set-up the porch to be as comfortable and relaxing as any other room in the house and you can even watch the cable from there. Legal intoxicants are allowed, please use responsibly and observe neighborly courtesy.

Great stay. Property was clean, great location, loaded with birds, fish and manatees. Very comfortable, and Michele was VERY accommodating. Well stocked with condiments, ALL cooking utensils, dishes, etc. Close to shopping, restaurants, attractions and grocery stores. Will return to this property when traveling in the area.

Lots of room upstairs. The bed was comfortable. Kitchen was well-stocked. Beautiful deck outside - as large as it looks in the pictures. We borrowed a canoe from Michele one afternoon and paddled up into the river system - lots of fun. We would stay again.

The photos on the VRBO looked old and outdated. I called VRBO and I was told, the property had been updated last month, but the photos had not been updated yet. The medicine cabinet was full of the owners stuff. No where for us to put our toiletries. Cabinets were full of the owners things, old and musky smells. The best way to describe the living room, I think, was parts of a futon and cushions and old pillows and a sheet for a cover. I didn’t sit on it. Old rugs everywhere. It would appear that the owner lives here when it’s not rented. When you first pull up to the property you really question if this is the place that was on VRBO.
There is an old pontoon boat with its seating on the ground and full of junk. Parking is very limited because the owner is living downstairs in the garage area and has her van parked in guest parking and always had a friend’s car there to.
Being a waterfront property it would be fair to think that there would be a secure area to park a boat trailer on the property, but we where directed to park on a vacant lot next door to the neighbors. There is a spiral stair that you enter the front of the second floor from or you need to walk around back and use the deck stairs.
There is junk piled everywhere from sections of fence and a door and old bar made of chest of drawers full of stuff that should be in the trash and a kitchen refrigerator full of food with junk piled on them both. Everything is full of ants and rotten. Inside furniture should not be outside. The roof on the screened deck is rotted and leaks. The pictures don’t show any of this or nobody would consider renting this property.
Had it not been Friday night going into Labor Day weekend with family planning to spend time with us we never would’ve stayed! I wished I could share my photos. Stay away!

This was a great place to stay. Very private in the back with floating dock for launching our kayaks. The owner also has a kayak and a new 2-person canoe available, along with life jackets and fishing rods. We were greeted periodically by herons and an egret demanding pieces of hot dogs, and observed cormorants, herons, ducks, and manatees in the canal. The house was excellent and there was storage for some of our stuff in the lower level. Highly recommended.

I have 3 small children and had plenty of room. Several restaurants close by and an ice cream shop. The beach was within 5 minutes. The location was excellent in that it allowed us to observe nature from the time we got up in the morning until the sun set in the evening. We were always in close proximity to a variety of bird species. The canal also provided the thrill of seeing manatees daily. There were also various fish making their home right at the dock.
Our other main interest was biking. It was easy to pack up the bikes and head to the Starkey Conservation Area where there are excellent bike trails that also allow viewing of birds, turtles and deer along the trail.
The house itself was very cosy. We felt like we were in a treehouse. The kitchen has a good selection of dishes, pots and pans and other utensils for preparing meals. We found that it could have been cleaner, but did not mind spending the time to make ourselves comfortable. Not everything on the property was well maintained. The kayak and boat were not really usable for inexperienced people like ourselves as they needed some attention. We stuck to dry land! Unfortunately the no-sees were alive and numerous and apparently very hungry. Their presence was somewhat of a hindrance when sitting outside.
Be prepared to have your own telephone as the one in the house is for emergencies only.
The owner was kind and provided the necessary information. She was completely unobtrusive, which we appreciated.
One bonus we were very pleased with was the collection of books available in the house. We spent many happy hours reading and relaxing in our home away from home.

This is by far the cleanest, best equipped vacation home we have ever rented.
The location is excellent for nature lovers and for just relaxing. The manatees and porpoise put on a show for us as well as all the birds.
It was just a great two weeks.

This was my first experience renting a home for a vacation and I wasn't sure what to expect. I was completely thrilled to find this house was all I hoped it would be. Great screened in porch, welcoming open spaces, and a great deck and dock area. There are 100s of fish you can see during low tide to make you want to fish. Wildlife is everywhere around you and the landscaping makes you forget that you are but minutes from stores and restaurants. The street is quiet and clean. The kitchen is fully stocked if you want to cook your meals. We saw a manatee every day. A wonderful experience I would highly recommend to anyone. I can't wait until we head back next year!

Highly recommended for active families
A very well equipped vacation home, located on a saltwater canal. Fishing was great, it is very private but close to everything. Hudson is a quiet town just on the edge of Florida's Nature Coast. So much to see and do.

Private Paradise
For one week each year we have rented our own private paradise. Birds, fish and manatee right in the backyard. Sunsets on the gulf. We couldnt have asked for more. All the comforts of home. Close enough to US 19 to see sights, far enough off the path to feel secluded. Thanks Michelle, for sharing your home with us.
