About this house rental
Take a look at the video in the photo carousel and you'll immediately know why this property is the most exclusive rental in Pine Mountain Club. Rarely available to outsiders, this top-quality luxury lodge has soaring ceilings to match the soaring panoramas, and showcases the very best Pine Mountain Club has to offer. In town yet overlooking an adjoining private forest, the lodge offers a unique combination of views, privacy, space, and convenience for the most discriminating renter.
The property is close in yet secluded – backing to a preserved valley with elaborate walks, wildlife, and spring-fed waterways. Its one-of-a-kind promontory overlooks the pristine valley vista, from the intimate deer pond to the towering mountains. The house is a literal stone’s throw from town for shopping, restaurants, entertainment, groceries, golf, tennis, horseback, swimming, and clubhouse convenience (plus first priority snow removal), yet set apart on a paved and granite-bouldered circular drive with snow, large trees, and 360 degree views of Pine Mountain’s beautiful surroundings including both Mt. Pinos and Mt. Abel.
Consider the combination: snow and trees and views and privacy and town and valley – anywhere else you’d have to compromise on several (or even most) of those features – but in this singular location no compromise is required. Whether it’s to the gazebo for a Shakespearean play, to the Greens for a round of golf and free concert, or into the forest for a stroll along a mountain stream, everything is just footsteps from your door.
For outdoor fun there are stone-lined paths to the valley for hiking/exploring/hours of play, an old fashioned tire swing under a giant oak, horseshoes, volleyball, and even a private in-ground pre-laid sled-run.
Great for large groups, three of the five bedrooms in this magnificent approx. 3200 square foot home are master bedrooms with adjoining double-sink bathrooms (including separate toilet/tub area for added convenience and privacy), while two of the bedrooms are bunk rooms sleeping up to 6 guests in each. In total, there are 1 king, 2 queen, 2 double, and 10 twin beds (plus an additional futon).
The downstairs foyer/library awaits your late-night reading, while upstairs guests enjoy windowed vistas all around in a gigantic open greatroom centered upon a towering stone fireplace. Whether you're spinning one of the 1,000 vintage vinyl records on the phonograph, watching a classic movie on the big screen TV, playing a boardgame at the pub-height game table, or enjoying a late night of conversation on the giant comfy sectional, this room is often the center of activity. It features an oversized dining area and an adjoining game room with ping pong, foosball, and air hockey tables. The chef is always a part of the action too, in an adjacent kitchen complete with dining island, stainless steel appliances including dual dishwashers, Frigidaire refrigerator, built-in microwave, trash compactor, and dual kitchen sinks with dual disposals. There are granite countertops and Thomasville knotty alder cabinets in every bath, as well as the kitchen and the understair laundry. Radiant in-floor heating maintains a quiet, even, and efficient warmth on cozy winter days, while the on-demand boiler supplies endless hot water any time of the year. The home is well insulated for sound and warmth alike (including all interior walls, floors, and ceilings), and is accented by solid knotty alder doors to every room, lodgepole pine both indoors and out, and natural slate floors in all baths, laundry, kitchen, entry, lobby library, stairs, and pathways. It features five (5) extra-thick exterior wood decks – including a recessed dining/view deck with its own magnificent outdoor fireplace to savor late summer evenings under the stars. Five (5) sets of French doors open onto the decks. The 2-car garage is extra tall, and even comes with a full-height indoor basketball hoop for rainy days!
Previously owned by Hollywood actor Dom DeLuise, this property is a one-of-a-kind gem, whether you’re entertaining several families or enjoying an intimate weekend with your own.
NOTE: This home is only rented for 14 days (max) out of the entire year, so get your requests in early. It's a very rare treat. Also, we now include linens and towels at no extra charge.
NON SMOKING ONLY!
BE ADVISED: This is not a typical vacation rental -- it's a large personal/corporate retreat which is made available to outsiders for a few days each year. Bearing that in mind, there are some quirks that you may find unusual, especially if you are a frequent vacation renter. For example, in order to discourage the owner's kids from squandering precious vacation time on their infernal electronic devices, the owner purposely installed NO Wi-Fi or cable TV at the lodge -- much to his kids' (and perhaps your kids') chagrin. There's a large screen TV and DVD player for movies together and many video games to be enjoyed as a group, but the lodge is intentionally disconnected from the outside world (although Verizon still manages to get a cell signal thru, and there is free Wi-Fi coverage all over town, beginning at the General Store which is only steps away). Also, as a concession to the owner's wife for making the lodge available to rent, you must endure the owner's personal items in the garage, closets, and pantry. (You are welcome to anything in the pantry, but please accommodate the owner's privacy with respect to the other items.) Again, this is not a standard vacation rental, so if you're looking for a place that is often rented, or which you can abuse, look elsewhere. Your deposit will be forfeited if you damage the house or break the house rules.

We booked this house for a big family trip for Christmas weekend. Got to the house to find dead flies all over the house, dirty sheets, house freezing cold with the heater taking 12 hours to warm up. When called the host to speak about the issues, I was surprised to be receiving attitude from the host and he told me “you don’t like it, you could leave.” Highly disappointed.

Beautiful property in Pine Mountain club, perfect mountain getaway for large families. There is a general store right around the corner and plenty of outdoor hiking trails. I wish they offered sheet service, I would pay extra instead of having to manage 14 beds and sheets! Overall wonderful experience

We were looking for a roomy and comfortable getaway and this home in Pine Mountain Club, CA greatly exceeded our expectations. The spaciousness and grandeur of the house isn’t done justice by photos! The ceilings soar overhead and the top floor is a wonderful place to eat, play, and relax.
What we loved:
* fun hiking trails in the backyard with tons of fun and cute things to discover left behind by the community.
* well-appointed home with spacious living and play area that has plenty of games and fun for all ages from young children all the way to adults.
* Great community with plenty of friendly and helpful locals. Nearly everyone we passed by was open and welcoming.
* Awesome family-owned general store a very short walk away. Very well stocked for daily grocery runs, including a great selection of beer and wines.
Things to consider:
* Be aware of the weather in the area, the home has good ventilation and fans, but can get hot during the middle of the day in the peak of summer.
* WIFI is not provided. This can be a good thing or bad thing. If you don’t require connectivity and can afford to disconnect, this can be a huge plus. The grandparents were having trouble adjusting to life without their iPads, but our kids found plenty to keep themselves busy.
* This rental requires you to bring your own sheets, pillowcases, and towels. This is more stuff to pack, but it’s nice knowing you are in your own linens especially in this era of virulent pandemics.
In sunmary, we discovered a new, quiet place to visiit with family a short distance away from the Los Angeles area. We had a great time, and think most families will too.

Communication with the owner was great - he was super thorough and responsive in answering questions before the trip. He met us there with a fire going and the floor heaters on, gave us a tour/instructions, and then left us to ourselves. The house is spacious, warm, and comfortable and it was just a short drive to playing in the snow. We had a great time!
Some things a prospective tenants might want to know:
- The owners ask that you bring your own bed linens and pack out your own trash, so be sure you plan for that ahead of time.
- As captured in the listing, there's no internet. I hear only Verizon gets reception in Pine Mountain Club but we have Verizon with unlimited data and the reception was excellent (90 mbps down), so we had no issues when we wanted access.
- The queen beds are comfortable but at least one is... whatever the opposite of "motion isolating" is, so my wife and I woke each other up quite a bit on the first night. The rest of the trip, I slept in a spare bed and we rested much better.
- The 1 upstairs bedroom is isolated and insulated from a lot of noise. However, the 4 bedrooms on the bottom floor are fairly close to each other and the noise carries a bit so if you have rambunctious kids, those on the bottom floor might not be sleeping in super late.
- The game collection is fantastic! A number of blasts from the past as well some obscure and newer games. Kids and adults alike enjoyed exploring them.
- The washer, dryer, and dishwashers were serviceable but aging and could probably use a refresh. The dryer was pretty slow and the dishwashers (which squeaked very loudly when opened) sometimes left food particles/residue on random dinnerware.
Overall, it's a lovely home with some wonderful and unique features. You can tell it's cherished place full of memories.

The house is great! It is beautiful, cozy and clearly well loved and cared for. It makes you feel at home! We are a group of two families (including 4 adults and 5 little girls). The game room was perfect (and not only for the little ones). We all enjoyed the games! We also had an awesome time cooking big meals all together in the fabulous kitchen.
We loved that there was no WiFi... the best way to "disconnect" and enjoy the time with family and friends.
Rob was a fantastic host, very friendly and helpful. We are already planning our next stay there. Hopefully we can repeat soon!

We enjoyed our stay as two families with both adults & kids. The location & atmosphere were a great place to relax & the kids had plenty of games to keep them occupied. The kitchen very usable with lots of counter space, storage & 2 dishwashers (though it's BYO wine glasses). The bedrooms are all very accommodating & well-set up. Just be prepared to make your own beds upon arrival. The general store was handy, too. I could see the location being even better in the winter, though we enjoyed the peacefulness in the summertime.
