I found this place to be very affordable, and overall, it was a great experience. The only concern I had was a noticeable smell of cigarettes, which could be improved by implementing a no-smoking policy. Aside from that, it felt safe and welcoming. Considering the price, it was definitely a worthwhile stay!

This is absolutely NOT. Nonsmoking property. Several cigarette butt receptacles throughout the property. See photos. Rented 2 rooms for a family trip. First 2 rooms smelled like ashtrays. One was so bad we couldn’t last 5 mins in the room. Front desk said they couldn’t move us but after I told them my daughter has asthma, suddenly they could. They showed me a room on the second floor to verify that there was no smoke smell. Then gave me keys to 2 rooms. The second room smelled like BO but at least not like smoke. Carpet was very soiled and the room had not been cleaned well. Literally pubic hair on the wall. Thick black hair on the towels. When we turned on the heater the stench was terrible. They were suddenly sold out so we had to keep the room. Will never stay here again.

Was greeted by Aaron and requested a bottom floor due to my wife’s knee issues.
The next morning I had an issue with the Manager “Felipe”. Before checking out I informed him that the washer was not working and it took my $3.00. He told me he can’t do anything about it, Told me to get the tel # from the machine and to call the company because they can’t do anything about it. I went to get the number but there wasn’t any. I informed him and he came and checked it out and also found nothing. He than said that he’ll call and later came back and return my money. I also told him about urine odor that my wife was smelling and that housekeeping should check it out. He told me that why didn’t I report it in when I checked in so they can transfer us to another room. We came from Clovis, Ca (approx. 3 hr drive) for my wife’s 57 th Birthday and took her for lunch. Later we signed in and was helped by Aaron and was very helpful (Thank you Aaron). The manager asked me again, why didn’t I report it in. I explain to him that we got our room, brought our stuff in the room than left to go to places that we plan on going before we head back home the next day. I was just informing him about the smell was all. I told him that I was just informing him about it. I told him that he had an attitude. I asked him if he was the owner or manager and told me he was the manager. I told him that I will make my comment about our stay and he said to go ahead. It is a clean place compared to the other one. ….

If you can avoid this place, do not stay here. The floor was carpet and felt wet. There were people yelling in the halls. The paint was chipping all over the door. There were bugs crawling on the walls. I stayed here for 10 minutes before I decided to leave ands was not given a refund. The overall feel of this place felt dirty and unsafe.

I paid 255$ for one night for a queen room, but the experience is Very bad. the towel is dirty with hair.the hair dryer is dirty and it seems no one live in the room for a long time. The pillow is not tidy. It was the last one that I recommend if you have another choice

While the building was older, it was clean and well kept. Budget friendly. I would stay here again.

The room in general was very dark. There was no proper lighting near the sleeping space. The bathroom lights did not work. The floor was also carpet so it felt very unsanitary. Especially because when we walked around with socks on we noticed the whole carpet felt wet. We noticed the water from the shower was the cause. The shower also had horrible water pressure. Took forever to take a basic shower. The area where the towels stored in the bathroom had stains and was clearly covers in dirt. The bathroom door also didn’t close or open properly. The curtains in the room were also broken. The fridge had a funky smell and was refrigerating correctly. The area is also very noisy not just because of the traffic or cars at night. You can hear everything in the hotel. Especially the morning cleaning being done. You can hear all the rolling carts and vacuuming. The most scary part was the room not having a deadbolt. The door didn’t close properly and you could clearly see the outside through the side of the door. My guess why you could hear all the noise. It felt very unsafe that a basic lock was keeping the door closed.

Average place to stay if you don’t plan on spending a lot of time in your room. There are 3 floors and no elevator, so you have to carry all your luggage up three flights of stairs. Only one ice machine and it’s in parking area at bottom of stairs. I give this place 3 stars, average

This is not worth $190. The area is questionable. The walls are thin. Parking is crap. The room itself is nothing fancy. A bed, mini fridge, microwave. The sheets made us itchy. The bathroom is clean but needs updating. Very disappointing.

The hotel is clean and up to date. I will recommend any one to stay in a hotel

The room above the office was noisy, falling apart, and everyone on the second floor smoked outside the room so smoke came in. Don't accept that room!

We recently stayed at the Sand Dollar Inn and had a wonderful experience. The motel is a nice place to stay, and we were pleased that they accommodated our two small dogs. We brought a kennel for our dogs and left them there while we visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which was only a short drive away. The pet charge is $30 per dog per night, which I found reasonable for the peace of mind it provided.
Any issues we encountered were quickly resolved by the helpful staff. We requested two rooms close together, and they were happy to oblige. On our second day, we needed clean towels, and although housekeeping forgot to bring them initially, a quick visit to the front desk solved the problem. The girl at the front desk promptly provided us with fresh towels.
The location is very convenient, being close to Monterey and about 45 minutes from Santa Cruz. We didn't encounter any issues during our stay, but we weren't expecting luxury accommodations either. With a large family, this motel was within our budget and met our needs perfectly.
We plan to return to the Sand Dollar Inn on our next trip to the area.

Amazing customer service
Of course it's an older building but they have updated the furniture and bathrooms just fine

This is an inexpensive option just North of Monterey. Comfortable, clean, & the staff is friendly. It’s about 3 blocks from the walking path/trail along the beach. This was perfect for taking our dog out for exercise in a lovely area.

It was just a place for us to sleep while racing our RC boat at Robers Lake.
Did not like the shower/tub. Very slippery tub and no seat for being a handcap room.

Newly renovated, big plus. I would stay again

The carpet was dirty and smelled like animals so that pretty much ruined the stay

The room was not ready till 4:30pm. We can see home less people out of our window. Expensive for a Saturday night for this place.

Not bad. Recently updated. Comfortable and clean. Could hear occasional street traffic and people in the halls but that’s par for the course in hotels in this part of town. Would stay again.

Very nice people, but basic, older facilities .

My room was on the street so that so noisy, and I cannot open windows for ventilation.

Very dirty outside with cigarette butts everywhere.

When we arrived we noticed there was no remote for the tv or a hair blow drier. Some of the bed sheets had stains and hair on them. The room itself wasn’t dirty dirty but it wasn’t the cleanest.

we wanted to watch tv at the end of our day amd the tv would turn off everu 2 to 3 minutes and we had to turn it back on and look for channel..thought someone was outside with a control controlling the tv.. no use watching tv. and pool area was dirty.. pool had hair and some garbage in it.

I cannot say a ton about this place. It was run down, lacked rudimentary items for use (e.g. no ironing board), and it was not in a great location for Monterey or Carmel by the Sea. Our 2nd store patio door would not lock or even close. I wouldn't stay here twice.

Good for the price in a busy time

We loved that the room was clean and the beds were comfortable. We were not happy that our room wasn’t cleaned, we took out the trash twice, we had to ask for snd go get fresh towels and the room smelled of pot , so someone around us was smoking. A clean room and a comfortable bed are our priorities the rest would have been great customer service.

The Sand Dollar Inn was less than a 10 minute drive to the Monterey State Beach which was very convenient. There are a lot of retail stores nearby and Fremont Blvd has lots of different casual restaurant choices. The rooms themselves were a little dated, but the bed was comfortable. The wi-fi service was unreliable.
