I asked for a room with a view. I feel we got the worst room right next to the elevator facing the parking lot in the lowest floor. It could be that I didn't far soon enough, but it was only one night with family so I felt totally ignored. The swimming pool didn't look clean so we didn't use it. It has a nice old hotel vibe, but overall I am not impressed by it other than the headboard of the bed. I always wanted to come visit Rhode Island and I hope to visit again since it's not too far from my home, but I don't think I would stay at Hotel Viking again.

Disappointed with room based off expectations on website

We arrived early and where able to check in before 4:00. We were hoping to get a room closer to the front of the hotel, but we ended up in a room at the farthest end of the building. The room was very nice, and we had no issues with anything. Our stay in Newport was enjoyable, and I had a chance to visit my earlier residences in
the city and to reminisce about places I knew from my childhood. My wife and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary at Newport, since it invoked fond memories of my life there. I had always wanted to stay at the "Hotel Viking".

No hot water. Rust on fixtures in the bathroom. Terrible drywall patching. Bathroom was outdated and cramped

The staff offered and provided a bottle of champagne when I told them it was my partner's birthday, and five yummy macaroons!!!!!

Stay as often as we can when visiting our daughter. Always our top choice

Stay was amazing, within walking distance to most of the shops etc. The listing for the hotel did not state that you have to pay for valet parking. Valet parking and a service fee which I am not sure what that was for was an additional $99 that was not budgeted. I think the listing should inform people that there is no parking and you have to pay for valet.

Beautiful hotel, excellent service, and great location. I will definitely be back!

Staff not helpful. 2nd night, around midnight a staff member broke into our room (with other guests with him). Broke the safety latch to get in. No apology or acknowledgment from management.
2.0
Location excellent. Rooms a bit too small and not renovated.

Valet staff good, rest of staff unwelcoming and restaurant staff dreadful. Very tired room, service staff didn’t even clean the drinking glasses in the room.

Very helpful and accommodating for anniversary celebration.

Short, two night stay but no room service during stay.

Hotel is a conference or event destination it is old and in need of renovation. Extra charge for valet parking where other places charging similar rates offer free parking. Roof bar is beautiful and location good

This was our fifth time visiting Newport and our first time staying at the Viking. We’d heard it’s really great so we were excited to splurge - $800/night. But what a dud! Dirty, tacky and terrible service. A few examples; the bathroom was dirty and had peeling tiles like you’d find in a Motel 6 in Oklahoma. The carpets throughout smelled like old stale sweat and the view from the room overlooked the parking lot. Speaking of parking it was not included in the $800/night but was an additional 50 bucks(!). Also, breakfast was not included, but set us back another $25/each.
Overall the experience would have been fine if we’d been staying at a roadside motel in the Midwest, but for $800 bucks, in Newport, this was probably one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve had in many years.

Great hotel! Service was exceptional! Hotel has a lot of charm. Close to Thames St. 20 min walk/5 min drive.

The staff at the front desk wonderful and helpful.
The cleaning staff was perfect.
Hotel is in great location.
Their only weak point was the rooftop bar, the bar guys made several mistakes with drinks and food.

Our room was pretty outdated with peeling wallpaper. The resort also charged $200 onsite for a pet a $50 cleaning fee which was not mentioned at the time of booking. The hotel waved part of the fee once I pointed this out. Called front desk for an extra blanket to be delivered to room and it never came.that said, the hotel lobby and amenities were great as was the location.

Had to change rooms several times because the air conditioners (which clearly were 20-30 years old) did not work, and the windows could not be opened, plus the rooms were outdated and the bathrooms were small and strangely configured

Everything was GREAT!!!

Very centrally located and high-quality hotel. Right on the free sightseeing trolley route so super convenient.

The hotel is dated and needs a refresh. There was a foul smell coming from the storage area on 3rd floor where they keep the sheets for the rooms.
2.5
Everything was great-shower in room needs tile replaced though. Tile was old and a bit moldy.

We loved the top of Newport rooftop bar. the coffee counter was convenient. Staff were very accommodating. Location was perfect for walking to sights and Thames st. Valet service was a bit overwhelmed at the time of checkout being our only criticism. We would def stay again

Very charming hotel, with friendly staff and nice facilities.

Upscale and dog friendly. Tasty dining options. On the trolley line!

The only complaint was parking. They only offfer expensive parking or you are limited to a few side streets. Luckily once you find a spot you don’t have to take your car out again until you leave

Loved the hotel, roof top bar and the concierge Peter Garcia was outstanding! He was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about things to do and see. Room ac was very loud and annoying.

Eh, for $400 a night per room Id expect more. Small rooms, old bathrooms, limited amenities. Door knobs in bathrooms falling off.

We liked everything about the Viking Hotel. I checked all the buttons above.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Viking. Would have been nice to have the option for non-valet parking, so we could come/go as we pleased without requesting the car.

Main Hotel nice but the rooms on extension were dated poor bathroom design. You are paying a premium price for location in Newport.

Bathrooms had a really low toilet and no grab bar as detailed in the hotel website
