Hotel is very nice. They tend to two bit you to death. Ie. No pet free room that'll be $10 extra. Book your breakfast now so we know how many staff to have. Cafe not open until4pm. No coffee in foyer. Low level service for what could be a grand stay.

The fromt deskwas not real helpful. The bar staff were wonderful, personable. The luggage people were very quick and helpful.

I had great expectations for this historic hotel. But the lobby and restaurant areas looked a bit shabby with carpeting that looked dingy. Room was large and beds were good but no comfortable chairs, only 4 straight back chairs. Restaurant food was mediocre and fitness room was a joke. It was more like a closet with old equipment. I was sorry to see this historic gem is not well cared for.

Great spot in an historic hotel. The bar and restaurant were wonderful with delicious good. We highly recommend this place.

This stay was fantastic. The food, room, and especially the bartender, made it such a fun experience. We will definitely be back

This was an interesting stay. Beautiful hotel, but a bit pricey for what it actually had to offer. Interesting history and easy to go check out downtown.

The price was very high for what we experienced. I’m glad we stayed but won’t come again.

Nice old building with lots of character. Rooms are spacious, clean and tasteful. Restaurant dinner was excellent, though limited selection. Breakfast didn’t open until 8am, which was disappointing as there was no coffee available for guests until then.

Beautiful, old-fashioned hotel. Glad we stayed there.

We were on the road and booked very last minute so we paid top dollar for our room. The room itself was nice, yet there was a stained chair that we saw as soon as we entered the room, so not the best way to enter. There were multiple people in the room next door and we could hear everything they said along with their TV chatter,( probably the downside of an older hotel).
The bed itself was very comfortable. I would say the room could use some TLC, and a vanity set(cotton swabs, etc in the bathroom would be appropriate).
The bar/dining room food was good (not excellent or anything but good), and the service from the bartender was attentive. For all the choices along this stretch of freeway, it is the best option, yet we paid $400 for the night. We chose to pay that, and I believe it was their last room. Was it a $400 room? Probably not, but we got a good nights sleep away from the freeway, so it served its purpose. The front desk staff were nice and pleasant -especially Leif.

We loved the historic nature of the hotel, it is a sight to see and should be a wonderful experience. It did start that way, OK greeting and check-in. We loved the room initially, but started to see a lack of detail in upkeep. Damaged furniture. These were not even antiques, the office chair needed to be completely replaced, the nice "sitting" chair was threadbare and was showing padding/filling. Put a local upholsterer to work. The Bathroom Mirror (an antique) is cracked and it's at the top of the mirror, and an independent piece that could easily be replaced by a jeweler or good glass worker. The Grand Geiser advertises it's comforts, that the Romantic four poster bed would be comfortable, it was just OK, the mattress is worn out, there was a ridge in the middle of the bed that made you roll out towards the edge of the bed. I worked at a very nice historic hotel in southern California for a while (The Mission Inn, Riverside California), the things that set this hotel apart from the other fancy hotels was the attention to detail, impeccable service, good food and drink, consistency, Happy outgoing staff.
We chose to not make a reservation for dinner (we had other plans) but we did look forward to Breakfast, the Bartender assured us that it was very good, so we planned to have a Grand Geiser Breakfast. Nope.
Breakfast was cancelled, with no explanation, the desk clerk was demoralized. The staff seemed sad. Lack of attention to detail. No breakfast. Not happy with this stay

This hotel is like going back in time. Its the most unique hotel I've had the pleasure of staying at. Wonderful experience.

Hotel was clean. It definitely is an old hotel. Bathroom in our room had very old tile around tub and bad looking grout.
Chairs in lobby by check in desk are worn out and dirty. I expected better for this grand old building.
I would expect desk people to be higher class dressed.

The property was perfect aside from the gas venting from the kitchen to the 3rd floor.

Read the fine prints closely. Their policies aren’t industry standards, and they will hold $100 charge on your card for over a week.
Speak with some of the locals; this hotel is not what it used to be. It’s cool to stay at once, after that you’re disappointed. Your money goes a LOT further at any of the other hotels in Baker City.

This is by far the crown jewel hotel property in Eastern Oregon and beyond. I've traveled extensively throughout the globe and this is my favorite. Exquisitely beautiful, historically significant and absolutely wonderful staff, food, accommodations and overall experience!❤️

The room was large and comfortable. For the price, though, I would have thought the service would be better. The front doors are really hard to open with a lot of stuff (and definitely not ADA accessible), and no one from the hotel was opening them even though there was a station just inside the door. (I even heard another guest come in and ask if they could use a luggage cart or get help, and they were told the cart was spoken for and they would have to wait… with no offer from hotel staff to help.) When we arrived at 3pm, we were told our room wasn’t ready (which was fine), but when we asked if we could leave our bags somewhere until 4pm, they told us we could keep them under the table in the lobby where they would be accessible to anyone. They then tried to upsell us on a carriage ride and book a reservation for dinner, which we declined despite the pressure; we knew from previous experience the food wasn’t great and was overpriced. Overall, the hotel is historically interesting, but the high cost isn’t really justified.

This was such a great stay! Really unique spot, lovingly restored with great detail. Staff were very friendly. Room was spacious and charming. Kids loved the DVDs from the front desk. Who can pass up a chance to ride in the 3rd-oldest elevator west of the Mississippi? This definitely broke up the monotony of bland chain hotels on our long road trip.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful!! The staff was very nice and helpful although we had a debacle regarding our deposit. We were a little disappointed with the restaurant. The food was just ok. I ordered the filet and it definitely wasn't a filet cut. It was chewy and not worth $43. Other than that, it was great!

Historical 3-star hotel at 4 star price, that covered only one guest; $24 for my husband. 2 nice robes; 3-star-quality towels; no coffee maker; hot water carafe with 1 hot chocolate packet, 1 tea bag, 2 instant coffee packets.

Our stay started with a bellperson ripping my room key out of my hand and basically throwing our luggage in the door. Not quite what I expected or maybe she was having a bad customer day. This is an older hotel and there have been very few plug-ins replaced so if you expect to charge your phone or your computer bring some duct tape to tape them to the outlet. The rooms are very dark as is the bathroom so if you need to put on makeup, bring a window mirror. Breakfast service is low quality and if you can find someone to take an order or bring you coffee, you will be lucky. We noticed couples leaving after finding a table and waiting for 10-15 minutes to get waited on. We made dinner reservations in advance at the hotel and Mark was our server and a very good server I have to say. Dinner quality was much better than breakfast. Overall, we like to stay in a quality hotel and expect to pay more, but this one needs some serious management help.

We arrived at the property at 1.5 hours before the 4 p.m. check in. We very politely asked if it was possible to get in early. She told us 4 times during the course of taking our license and information that the stated check-in was 4 p.m. Once would have done it; we graciously accepted her response.
