Front deck tried to charge me more for room. The bed had bugs and stains on sheets and comforter hair all over bed got refund and stayed in Martinsburg

For what I paid ($65), this was a fine option.
This is an old property with brand new owners who seem to be at the very beginning of updating it.
On the plus side the staff was very friendly and the walls were freshly painted. The bed was clean and comfortable. There's wildlife all around, a restaurant across the street, and you can walk into town.
That said, there are still a lot of things that need to be renovated, so be ready for that.

Inexpensive option for travel through I-70. Staff was friendly and the bed was clean.

The inside is much nicer than the outside. Clean, comfortable bed, clean bathroom, decent sized room, but definitely in need of some repair. The worn outdoor furniture and busted screens on the doors are not a good look. The fan in the bathroom didn’t work, but it was nice enough we could open the window. A/C was fine, and linens were clean, so all in all a good place to stay for the price.

I will caveat that I typically don’t leave reviews, esp. negative ones, but feel compelled for this one. The price was cheap; so we weren’t expecting much. As background we had stayed there once or twice before on our way back and forth from VA Beach and Michigan. Love how the decor hadn’t changed since the 50’s/60’s…. Totally dig the retro aesthetic. It was Pouring down rain when we checked in. Check in clerk was friendly enough, however, stated several times that she was new. That’s fine, we’re patient, we’re on vacation. Ask her if there’s any place to eat and she says the place across the street is closed, but they have free bag of chips and bananas. Politely say no thanks get back in the car. Wife says there’s at least 20 cars parked out front of the restaurant so let’s go check it out. Turns out to be open so we go in have a solid meal. When we get back, I went back into the clerk to ask where the ice machine was and also mentioned that the restaurant was in fact open. She then states that they intend to have full service food amenities. So it’s now obvious that she lied about the restaurant being closed. Oh, and by the way, when I got to the ice machine, it was obvious it’s been broken for at least several months based upon the dead bugs inside of it and no ice of course. She was polite, however it really ground my gears that she was out right lying; definitely once, and most likely twice.

The room was dark, damp, and dirty. When we arrived, it was like driving onto the set for a horror movie. I was so disappointed; I stayed here decades ago and it was wonderful.
Do not stay at the Hancock Motel!

The bed was way too soft for us.

I enjoy staying here because it's very accommodating for the price. It's comfortable and clean each time and the staff is very polite.

You go here because you have no better options

The accommodation had enough space for two people to stretch out.

Older motel, clean, comfortable.

We were cycling the C&O canal and stayed here for a night. It's a real old-school motel. A little dated but clean, everything works, and good value for money.

Had a really nice time there

The motel is conveniently located off the highway, close to many places in town and across from an excellent restaurant. The motel is dated, but has everything you need. It was quiet and clean.

Very nice little place to stay. The rooms give off a “grandma’s house” kind of vibe (the smell is there, too. Not in a bad way, not humid at all.) I slept well, the beds were cushy (maybe a bit too much for me, personally). They allow dogs ($15 fee) and have a specific potty area for them with waste bags provided. Laundry services were also available ($1.50 in quarters for washer, $1.00 in quarters for dryer). The staff was very friendly and it appeared they have coffee to buy. The bathroom does have some poor circulation, and the tub drained slowly but did drain the water. Would stay again.

Location perfect. A small ride off C&O bike trail. Storage available for bicycles and a cleaning area as well. Decor is a bit dated but water was hot and AC worked after biking all day! On-site laundry a big plus!! Great restaurant across the street.

Check in staff was grumpy on arrival, later one of the staff was friendlier and more accommodating. They tried to charge us extra to store our bikes. The room smelled of mold or mildew, the beds were worn, stained and way too soft. We tried to gain access to our bikes a little early and were met with,” 8 o’clock!, you said 8 o’clock!”, and had the door shut in my face.

Adequate if you just need a place to rest your head.

We booked this motel on the recommendation of a friend. The room was spacious and comfortable with an easy chair and a sofa. No desk however there was a round table but no chair to use at the table. The bathroom was small. Light switches in the bathroom were confusing. I believe we were the only guests there that night.

I liked the uniqueness of the property.. it’s like a time capsule of the past. The office staff are rarely around and many times when I’ve tried to book it says the hotel is full … but it’s actually just not open.
Frustrating.

The room was clean except for the carpeted floor. The corners of the room had not been cleaned or vacuumed and there were dust, nail clippings and dead bugs. The heating system was very noisy and annoying. There was no free breakfast - so that needs to be changed in the advertisement. The bed was clean and comfortable. Front desk person not very friendly. I would not stay here again.

Friendly staff, conveniently located off the Highway exit.
Comfy bed, quiet night.

Staff was very nice. Ample hot water! A little worn and musty. Restaurant across the street is great.

Property has seen much better days. Quite old and becoming run down

Convenient to Apple Butter and was pet friendly. The desk clerk was very friendly.

Perfect location just outside of Berkeley Springs. Staff was kind and courteous. Bed was comfortable. Though the room was non-smoking, one could tell it used to be a smoking room for many many years once upon a time. Some upgrades are needed. For one overnight stay, it was spot-on.

Adjust your expectations; this is a serviceable 2.5-star motel. The people running it don't seem too happy about it, but it was clean (if dated) and affordable. There's a washer and dryer and it's close to the bike trails, so if you're on the C&O or WMRT trail, consider it. Good restaurant--the Potomac River Grill--right across the road.

Furniture in our room was new and the bed was comfortable. This is a quirky motel so be prepared. Good stay for the adventuresome. Great food across the street. Motel would seem a lot nicer if the owners would get rid of the old, moldy outdoor furniture. Some rooms appear to be long term renters.
6.0
The room was relatively tidy for an old motel, however, management clearly has decided not to invest in the place.
The mini fridge made an annoying ticking sound all night long, couldn't unplug it because I had food in it, luckily my cpap machine helped drowned out the noise (I did wake up twice, though).
The area is not very safe for cyclists, especially if you're doing the C&O trail, as it's surrounded by highways and roads with speeding drivers.
8.0
It's an older 1950s style motel, but the room was clean and it was in a good location near the towpath. They had a bike washing station, which was something the larger hotels wouldn't usually offer.
6.0
The shower and toilet were good but the room is very musty and needs to be aired out. Changing the 30 year old carpet would help. Some other cyclists we talked to said their room was the same.
2.0
One lamp did not work and the Wi-Fi was useless.
8.0
Old but updated motel located conveniently in Hancock for C&O bike trip. No bikes in room policy is inconvenient but they do offer storage in a garage. Finicky TV and window A/C unit often resulted in stuffy room at times was cause for 4/5 stars. Would stay here again.
4.0
Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Facility is very dated and our room wasn’t super clean (shower curtain was dirty/moldy) and the window screen was busted out. Our bed was very clean, however. As bikers it’s a climb up the hill to get there but still within walking distance of town and everything we needed. It served the purpose for us as thru-bikers.

small but very coinvent for my stay in the aera

This motel is clean, cozy, and the cats around the motel make it unique.
10.0
Love the old school look and feel.
4.0
The outside of the motel was definitely lacking. There are chairs to sit in outside but they were dirty and smelled bad. The room itself was very dated. The blinds didn't fully cover the windows, the bathroom definitely needed work. The tiles were missing on the floor and the shower wasn't very clean. However, the ac was new and worked well and the beds were comfortable. The TV was also wall mounted, large and new.
8.0
It was a clean room at a good price, but I booked a room for 4 adults but only received 2 bath towels and had to spend an extra $20.00 for 2 more. I also think the shower could be safer with non slip mat inside the bathtub.
