A wonderful old building that has been tastefully updated.
Room on the small side, but more than adequate.
Staff very friendly. Great shame the restaurant is closed for dinner but the Broken Hill Pub 90 metres down the road is exceptional for food.

Really well-presented hotel and the staff were very polite.
Will most definitely stay there again

Hotel in a great position for looking around Broken Hill. We did not have a car as came by train. Room was comfortable and continental breakfast, at reasonable extra charge, was fine. Staff friendly and helpful.

Great old style Hotel accommodation. Room was comfortable but a bit small. In the heart of the city but very quiet. Large verandah with table and chairs. Walking distance to various pubs and cafes. Continetal breakfast available each morning in the dining room. Enjoyed our stay.

We arrived to find out there was no restaurant or bar open at all and when we got to our room the aircon did not work . Not good when it was 40 degrees. We spoke to them about it and there was nothing they could do

A magnificent art deco property built 1939.
Very quiet and only 5 minutes walk to the railway station. Decor wonderful.

We will visit again when the restaurant is open.

A good property, though my room was tiny. Entirely too small. No place to put suitcase and me. Only one night stay, so okay. But would not stay in such a room again. Most of staff nice and helpful. Town is melancholy and somber.

Lovely historical hotel which is rare these days. Could easily stay there again.

Lovely period property - clean, comfortable and had everything you needed for a short or longer stay.

The hotel had a beautiful art decor feel. Amazing service as our room was ready before the standard check in time. The hotel was so quiet. It was a joy to stay there

Character of an historic pub.

This property is marketed as a 5 star hotel with pictures of an attractive dinning room other and bar. It says parking available. Disappointingly it is more like an understaffed boarding house - there is no service in the dinning room other than a motel style sketches; breakfast there is no drink service except the usual motel type overprice ‘minibar’;there is no parking other than on the street where time limits apply; reception was unhelpful - when I asked what were good dinning option I was told ‘just go down the street there are plenty of things open’.
Not withstanding that the room and bedding were of a high standard. Pity, with a bit more effort could be an outstanding option. Need to try harder

The hotel is very nicely decorated and looked after.
The only parking is on the street and there are time limits so you have your car. Also, the wifi coverage was no good in our room despite staff telling us "it should be OK" it simply wasn't. It would be nice for this to be fixed so we would get what we paid for.

Always a comfortable stay

There is no bar area at the hotel and the lounge and dining areas were closed on both nights (Mon & Tue) Advised they would be closed for the foreseeable future. Therefore no indoor areas to relax apart from my room. Only on street parking (max 4 hours during the day) across from the hotel.
The cost for the stay did not reflect the lack of amenities offered

Central to all attractions, walking distance to many cafes, clubs bar in the middle of town.

Classic comfortable 'old' hotel. But note that dining room is now closed, but other eating options (pubs and cafes) are nearby.

A massive thank you to everyone at the Royal Exchange - right from giving lots of dinner recommendations when I checked in, then letting me extend my stay at the last minute, and then especially to Ray as I was leaving, who let me stay in my room past check-out time, then insisted I stayed in their (very comfortable!) Lounge while waiting for my flight, and then spent ages calling around taxis who didn't come and eventually arranging for a local tour bus driver to run me to the airport. After being looked after like that, I wish I could stay forever!

We knew it was an old hotel but probably there should be some upgrades, bathrooms ?
Also we would've liked to grab a drink arriving late afternoon, no-one in the bar area and the receptionist was clearly wanting to go as soon as possible, its a hotel for goodness sake, look after your guests
We went down the road to the Broken Hill Pub

Gorgeous old building, friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable bed and good selection of pillows. Quite noisy - from the street (as would be expected on a busy corner - which is also very convenient for getting around town) - but also through our wall from inside. Woken by very loud banging very early each morning - perhaps from the cleaner's closet between the end rooms.
Could be amazing with a little update - looks a little tired and the balcony will become unsafe without some serious restoration soon. The dining room (only used for a continental breakfast) is crying out to be an art deco cocktail bar!
Overall, excellent for a casual and generally relaxing stay.

Nice hotel in middle of the Main Street in BH. Rooney are smallish but have everything you need.

Great rustic feel and location. Wi-fi did not work.

Cool old hotel , need some off street parking tho, parking out on the street with signs that say no more than four hours isn't ideal.
