Bathroom had been completely remodeled, and well done. Balcony, although I didn't use it.
Very nice breakfast buffet.
4.2
Close to HSB station

A must for fans of the (model) train!
4.2
Perfect location for the steam trains. Lovely staff behind the bar. Not a lot of parking but we did manage to get parked. Good variety of breakfast. Dinner was lovely and big portions. Restaurant themed around the steam trains, great for enthusiasts. Thankyou
4.2
Great place to stay, steam train nearby,
Lovely little town, breakfast included.
4.2
Perfect location if you arrive to Wernigrode by train. Great tidy, clean solo room and a nice breakfast buffet overlooking the steam engine railway. Helpful front desk staff. The town is beautiful.
4.2
The staff were friendly, the check-in process was cumbersome but not to the point of being annoying. We ate dinner in the hotel on night of our three night stay and had a delicious meal that was properly priced. Breakfast eat morning was well stocked and hot. We overlooked the railyards which provided endless entertainment a the old steam trains were moved into position.

Sometimes hotels are the worst, but not this one. It has the best l8cation, the best view and excellent family staff.
Good beds, excellent breakfast, and fun interior, and a evening restaurant.
And all that facing HSB's railwaystation.
4.2
Conveniently located near the Harz narrow gauge railway, (with a railway theme to the hotel) but only a few minutes walk towards the centre of the historic town centre. Clean and modern rooms , a good breakfast buffet and friendly helpful staff.
4.2
Stayed at hotel before but not in new block. Superb room with view over railway lines. Breakfast as before well presented and plenty of choice.
4.2
Stopped four nights. Overall pretty good, if slightly more expensive than it might be.
The hotel was a few minutes walk from the railway stations, and provided free parking.
I guess that the inflated price is as it is a themed location for the narrow gauge railway, with the drinks delivered by train feature in the restaurant.
Room was good sized, and very clean. The double bed I booked was actually two single beds pushed together, with a single duvet.
The rooms could do with tea/coffee facilities.
The bar / restaurant was good, as was breakfast which was available from 07.00.
4.2
This hotel is perfect for all types especially the rail fan.
Over looks the HSB shed/yard and has a model train delivering the beer to the table. Very clean and comfortable with helpful staff. A small city tax provides a discount booklet including area buses. One to remember.
4.2
great place to stay. close to the railway station and only 10 minutes walk into the old town. staff were all very friendly and helpful. excellent buffet breakfast.
4.2
Close to station. Room had view of the steam trains. Model train delivering drinks in the restaurant was amusing.
4.2
When we arrived very late in the evening, the double bed was made for only one person, but they came with more pillows, linens, etc. Just outside of the hotel, there are old steam-powered trains, quite fascinating to see. Quite central location.
4.2
Our room had a great view of railway yard, which is fantastic for railway enthusiasts. Meals were very good & dining room nicely appointed with a train delivering drinks!
4.2
The hotel was very nice, the rooms, the beds, the location. Except when we came down for breakfast there was hardly anything left at the buffet, no meats, no cheese, no fruit; and it was not replenished, either.
The staff was wonderful.
4.2
an excellent location for the steam railway have stayed a few times. Room this time a little small but adequate for my requirements
4.2
Great place directly at the hsb steam train station
4.2
Of course the train in the restaurant is amazing but so is the food and the service
4.2
My first impression was one of exceptional freshness in the room, which was of good size and comfort. Check in was quick and friendly and breakfast had a good selection. The location is perfect for exploring the town and region. For those taking the steam train into the Harz or traveling by normal train, the stations are across the road. The beautiful pedestrian zone which is also where you catch the shuttle to the castle overlooking the town, is a pleasant stroll less than five minutes straight down the street. You also get free regional bus transportation with your tourist card at checkin. Perfect location, friendly service, nice room, excellent value.

If you're into railways, this has to be the best hotel in town. Located opposite the HSB railway station in Wernigerode the hotel has a railway theme throughout with room names & decoration having a railway theme throughout. The dining room comes complete with drinks from the bar being delivered to the table via model railway.
Our room was basic, but clean & tidy.
Evening meal was delicious, and breakfast was a great spread of all you could fancy.
The town is well worth a visit, and this hotel is as well.
4.2
Very good hotel, great breakfast and helpful staff
Had 3 rooms booked in total and all good standard
great for HSB trains
4.2
I have stayed here a few times, this time we had a railway room overlooking the front of the hotel. The room was average and comfortable, but the staff as usual were great, the bar and restraunt are excellent and although it is a little expensive it is in a tourist area and is comparable price wise with the other accomadation.
4.2
Perfect location for the Harzer Schmalspurbahnen.
Great view of locos being prepared for the day's trains while eating breakfast.
Good food in the restaurant.
4.2
Very close to the station . Hotel comfortable and. Breakfast Good. At checkout reception was adamant we had not paid and. Insisted that we pay again, even though we had shown her evidence on the booking confirmation. We had no option as we had a train to catch. Took over an hour to sort out the problem with the Expedia and the credit card company. Rather spoilt an otherwise enjoyable stay.
4.2
Lovely hotel with spacious rooms and nice staff.
4.2
Wonderful breakfast, very comfortable and spacious room in new wing. If you are into narrow gauge steam railways you can’t beat this location. All the action is right across the street and you can see it and hear it from your room.
4.2
The hotel is across the street from the train yard. Great spot not only for those who like trains but steam trains. My kids love trains and could not keep away from the window. We booked the larger room and the building we were in was modern and the room was clean and comfortable. My only complaint were the glass bathroom doors and partition in the bedroom. Though they were decorated with steam train etchings, they allowed light in the rooms. Bothersome if you are sleeping. The train station is only about a five minute walk. My kids had a great time taking the train to the top of Brochen Mountain despite the weather. Not so busy this time of year.
4.2
We had 2 nights here in a very spacious room, actually almost a suite as the bedroom was separate to the lounge area. Very nice bathroom and a separate toilet. The hotel overlooks the locomotive depot for the Harz narrow gauge railway which for me was a delight! Not noisy at night as the trains don’t operate then and in any case the windows are double glazed. The hotel has its own restaurant with an excellent menu and if you get a table by the windows, your drinks will be delivered by a large scale model train! Great fun!
4.2
Lovely place to stay in a gorgeous town! Restaurant is delicious, breakfast is AMAZING. Really enjoyed our stay. Parking could be an issue if busy!
4.2
I love this hotel! It has so many neat little nuances like the train that delivers drinks in the restaurant, the immaculate rooms and common area, the comfortable bed, the large windows that allow you to hear the trains if you want or not, they are that good.
The location is wonderful! It's right next to the steam train depot which transforms you back to a bygone era. The trains take you up to the top of Brocken Mountain and beautiful hiking in Harz National Park. It's a couple blocks from shopping and restaurants in the picturesque city center of Wernigerode.
The restaurant has wonderful food! We stayed 3 nights and had dinner there twice! There is a patio out the front door to enjoy a beer or a little nook on the second floor to watch the night settle in. The beer on tap was amazing!
I love the staff and the accommodations. We would highly recommend the Hotel Altora to everyone. Request a room in front to enjoy the view of the beautiful hillside and trains, or if you're looking for a silent stay, request a room in the back.
4.2
Great hotel for the Harz steam railway - the hotel overlooks the depot and station in Wernigerode.
4.2
The hotel restaurant the steam train yard so do some of the , so you can actually watch active steam engines. The only drawback is that these rooms are also next to the main road, so you do get early traffic noise. The hotel is only 5 minutes walk from both the railway and bus stations.
4.2
Sport from a rushed check in, we arrived at 2140 and reception closed at 2200, everything else was fine. Good clean room, friendly staff, good buffet breakfast, good food in the restaurant, fine collection of railwayania displayed throughout the hotel. Well situated for the Harz (and DB ) railway stations. "Railway rooms" do overlook the engine sheds bit if you're spending all day riding the trains are probably not worth the supplement as they is a balcony available to all and it has an even better view for those unable to walk 15 metres to the other side of the road up to the railway fence!!
4.2
tremendous views of steam railway go for eisenbahn blick zimmer ( room with view of railway) breakfast good and bar excellent
4.2
The hotel was conveniently situated both for the station and the town. The staff were very friendly and helpful and my room was excellent. The restaurant on-site was fine and I used it each evening during my stay.
