Lovely hotel, helpful friendly staff. Spotlessly clean room. Fantastic view from our balcony.

Amazing little hotel in a mountain. Elegant, historical and even a little bit exciting to travel to.
One of the hest experiences we've ever had.

it was amazing, the hotel is located inside a UNESCO site. the view to the lake is magnificent.

Great hospitality and service. The hotel has history and the food is great.
Because of the age of the hotel the room (#2) was clean, bit a bit dusty.
Parking was challenging.

This place is very beautiful and romantic. The staff was wonderful! Getting to the hotel was challenging, way up a mountain in the middle of nowhere! Nothing to do in the area.

I booked this hotel as a stop over on our trip from Switzerland to CinqueTerre... I had no idea how amazing it was !! I would recommend it for couples who want to take some time alone for a couple of days ! The breakfast was amazing and the staff were wonderful !
2.5
The hotel and restaurant is beautifully located on the side of the mountain.
We had lake side view which is astonishing.
The atmosphere of the hotel is 1930ies, which almost makes you feel like traveling in time.
The breakfast due to COVID is preordered, but everything was fresh made and all wishes where cared for also changes from day to day.
Eating in the restaurant for dinner is a special experience it truly lives up to romantic getaways.

The stay at Al Borducan was fantastic. The view was beautiful, the food was good, the room was cozy and clean. Nothing to complain about!

Amazing location, service & staff

Beautiful relaxed hotel with excellent staff. No check in as such but the hotel staff took care of all of our queries. Off site parking is a little tight but sufficient. Rooms are antique in style, matching the whole ambience of the hotel. Only one staff member serving breakfast in the morning but he did a great job of keeping all of the guests happy until backup arrived at about 09.30h. The staff really make this hotel special.

We had a very romantic stay at Al Borducan!
The rooms have nice 20's interior. The candle light dinner was very romantic. The dinner was expensive but good.
The bathroom was a bit old and small.
Parking is also not so easy.

Breakfast on the terrace with a beautiful view and the quality of the food at breakfast.

Overall a fantastic experience, lovely building and customer service! Recommend the candle-light dinner - what a view!

The setting was like being in a classic Italian movie...or a fairy tale with twinkling lights. Everyone was gracious, generous and made you feel like family. They couldn’t do enough to please you.
The linens and room service were perfection and the food was as fine as we’ve had anywhere in the World.
Our waiter ( Francesco?) made every effort to ensure we tasted and selected the best wines to accompany our extraordinary dinners and Ricardo wrote a book describing in great detail all the best local sites to visit! We biked we hiked, we picnicked, we looked at art and sculpture, we did the Pilgrimage, we lit candles, and I became
Catholic again :-)
We are now spoiled forever !

Don't miss the chance to have a dinner in this location.
The breakfast is with the same attention as the overall in this building.

This was an amazing and romantic location. The view is unbelievable, and is matched by impeccable service.

Lovely hotel with friendly staff. Beautiful location but tricky mountain road to negotiate every time you want to go somewhere. Two nights enough. Food at hotel good but overpriced. At least £100 for two for even a basic meal. Couple of other restaurants in the village but very busy.
Overall a lovely experience but we shouldn’t have booked for 7 days.

Romantic hotel with an excellent restaurant. No air conditioning, but no problem at night since the temperature will drop in the evening. Very good service from the whole staff.

My friends, husband and I were all blown away by the ambiance, character, service and amazing views provided by Al Borducan. Ricardo and Allessandro went above and beyond with impeccable hospitality making our visit our absolute favorite in all of Italy. The candles were so beautiful inside the dining room and on the patio enabling to have the most memorable romantic dinner in the Italian Alps. The 5 course meal prepared by their chef was also superb! Upon arrival you are greeted with their famous elixir accompanied with an awesome platter of appetizers in the lovely patio. I can thank them enough for a perfect and most memorable experience. We will recommend Al Borducan for any honeymoon, vacation or bucket list to everyone we can. We look so forward to returning to Varese’s Al Borducan again soon.

Great food, hospitality and scenery from the balcony. The complimentary tapas plate and Prosecco upon arrival made a great start. Dinner menue and lovely breakfast concluded the 5/5 rating. Only concern is if you bring heavy luggage and/or large car, then you're up for a workout or advanced driving chalenge :-)

Wonderful hotel on a mountain but just at the bottom of a little village called Santa Maria del Monte which was exquisite and had a few places to stop by and eat and drink. The hotel staff were lovely, the views were amazing, the decor was really quaint and the music played really gave the place some atmosphere and set the scene. The food was absolutely delicious and we loved the Elixir. I couldnt fault this hotel and its once place I would love to return to, it was like stepping back in time into a fairy tale.

This hotel was so charming and had a truly amazing view! The staff was so nice and helpful. A breakfast was included with the price of the room, and it was delicious. We also had dinner there and that was really special. I loved this hotel!

The place is an historical beautiful building that has only 10 rooms with an amazing view of the lake. The stuff was really nice and was always willing to help. The room was very clean and decorated. Breakfast was awesome with fresh and verity of food.

My partner and I had a 6 night stay at the hotel. The view from the hotel was absolutely amazing! The staff were attentive and could do enough to make our stay comfortable. I will definitely be going back to this hotel, and highly recommend it!

The hotel is beautifully restored with great care for the details. We wanted to be close to the Sacro Monte of Varese but never dreamed we would be on it and with such style.

The service was great and the views were amazing! The room was a little small, but clean.

We stayed there for three nights and ate dinner at the hotel all three nights. Excellent food and reasonable prices. Morning breakfast buffet was great, offering a variety of coffees, pastries, meats, cheeses, and eggs cooked to order. Very friendly staff, wonderfully decorated, comfortable, and clean room with a great view. Highly recommend this place and we will definitely be back when traveling in this area again.

The hotel was absolutely wonderful. The owners and staff were so friendly. The breakfast was excellent with a good selection of food. We dined in the restaurant twice in the evening and both times the food was superb. The Elixir was pretty good too! I would highly recommend this hotel.

Access to the hotel is up a narrow road so travellers with limited mobility should prepare in advance. The hotel is located on the amazing Sacro Monte di Varese, our balcony room had spectacular views across the Varese lakes and beyond. The owners provide a warm and inviting family atmosphere, with dining worthy of a greater establishment. The homebrew is particularly special to complete a truly individual stay. We look forward to returning again.

A very quirky atmospheric small hotel in a beautiful mountain village, with excellent food and attentive staff

Beautiful location. Heavy rain prevented us from walking far

Wow, what a little gem this place is! Myself and my Wife recently stayed for a few nights as part of our Honeymoon as we toured around Europe.
The location on the Sacro Monte is stunning. The Mount is listed as a UNESCO World Horitage site with tiny cobbled streets seperating the old buildings and chapels on the summit. The view from both the hotel and summit across Lago Varese and down across the plains towards Milan are breathtaking.
The boutique hotel that is the Al Borducan is housed in a 19th century villa along with it's own restaurant and cafe. It's a family run establishment with the Bianci Family being incredibly friendly, accomodating and welcoming. After a few days there we almost felt like part of the family as opposed to paying guests!
We paid the very small supplement to upgrade to the suite. The room was amazing, split across two levels with a huge jacuzzi bath and bay windows with views across the hills and lakes. Speaking to other guests the regular rooms were also apparantly lovely with equally impressive views.
The restaurant was wonderful with fantastic food and wine. We normally have a rule that we like to experience dining in differant places and avoid eating at the same place more than once. In the case of Al Borducan we ate there every night.
As seasoned travellers we both agreed that the Al Borducan was right up there with the best places we have ever stayed, both for overall experience and value. We can't recomend it highly enough!

Wonderful in every way. The owners were warm and gracious and immediately made us feel welcome. The view from our room was spectacular (Room 19, I think), and the food was excellent. They have a house made liquor that is divine. We only spent one night and wished we had booked longer.
