We were at a wedding and stayed overnight. Everything was so well organised and the staff were friendly and professional. Breakfast was great with so much choice. Would definitely recommend

Great location, friendly staff, excellent breakfasts

My only criticism of the room was the hanging space in the open closet which was minuscule for long dresses, trousers and coats and also had an ironing board in it making it an even smaller space. Everything else in the hotel was marvellous.

Fabuous hotel, stayed here a few times now, great rooms and food.
Very reasonable price too.
Fab staff

Amazing - so helpful and the staff laid out petals I had sent to the hotel for our anniversary. No grumbles and done with maximum effort. Thanks so much.

We had a wonderful one night stay- staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. As there was a function with a band we were offered an alternative room on arrival in a quieter spot, which we accepted and were very happy with the quiet and cosy room. Room was very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. A morning walk around the grounds added to the peaceful and relaxing experience, with beautiful wooded paths and lawns. Would recommend.

Amazing hotel and food
Abit noisy
Shower head wasn’t great

Hotel looked very welcoming. Staff were friendly and helpful. However as it was a wedding parking was difficult with fee spaces available. We also had ignorant guests who on our second evening thought it funny to knock on our day and leave. Even good hotels cant be responsible for ignorant guests.

Loved the location with Furness Abbey nearby and conveniently situated for Safari Zoo. The hotel was furnished beautifully and our room was very spacious. The hotel grounds were stunning and maintained to a high standard, We were celebrating our 43rd Wedding Anniversary, on Thursday, but this wasn’t acknowledged, however, the restaurant was very busy on that evening. Would recommend this hotel.

Amazing stay. We stayed here to attend a wedding.
The organisation of the wedding was fabulous, along with the well trained, friendly staff. Beautiful venue. We also celebrated our wedding anniversary on the first night of our stay and was presented with a bottle of pink Prosecco whilst we were having our meal. Lovely gesture.
Would definitely recommend.

I have stayed this weekend in room 113 - I have to say firstly what amazing staff! The bloke who cleaned my room helped me numerous times with locking myself out. He was so polite and nothing was too much trouble.
Batman who is from Dubai , very friendly and polite and knowledgeable about his job. Had a very interesting conversation about champagne.
Breakfast staff - from the gentleman who took me to my table from the the waitress & waiters . All very polite and helpful. The food was great with lots to offer and as I am a very fussy eater, there wasn’t anything I didn’t like.
I have stayed here a few times over the years but not for a while and I have to say this was definitely my best experience and have booked again for a few weeks time. This will now be my place to say when I am back home visiting.

Great location, fantastic staff and a lovely room. Breakfast was great. The only issue was that a hotel of this standard really shouldn't be serving instant coffee at breakfast!

Staying during the colder months the Winter Suite certainly lived up to its name. The suite was large but the radiators were not sufficient to keep it warm, the saving grace was the the underfloor heating in the bathroom. The dining room of an evening was often chilly and one evening I had to sit with my jacket on. The hotel at midweek was not at capacity so not sure if this was the reason the heating was turned down or off and as I person who feels the cold it was not pleasant. Also being informed at 9.30pm the bar was closing as the staff were going home was not great, we were away on a short break with family.

Attended for a wedding and stayed overnight. Gorgeous rooms, comfy beds and lush duvet. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of options. Plenty of parking I clouding areas to charge cars

We booked this for our anniversary as we had also booked the safari zoo experience which was near. The pictures online doesn’t do the hotel justice at all ! It was a beautifully clean location inside and out.
We had noted that I needed a disabled room as I struggle to walk very much due to my disability. We were booked into the Ullswater room and it was amazing. The room was so large which would be great for wheelchair users to manoeuvre around. The bathroom was a big wet room with waterfall shower and a standard hose shower, super powerful and had great handrail next to the toilet, and two other handrails next to the toilet and on the wall of where the shower is. There were two sink basins and low enough for wheelchair users to reach etc. the rooms were cleaned daily and had a great selection of hot drinks and a still and sparkling bottle of water inside too. There was also an extra plug in radiator as it can get chilly. Extra little touches in the drawers.
Breakfast was great, very polite staff well decorated in the bar / restaurant. The lattes we got on the Friday evening were fab.
It was great for value and a really beautiful place. The grounds are stunning from what I could tell although I can’t manage to walk around.
The only downsides I would say are that there are no flannels / wash cloths which isn’t the end of the world. And that the mattresses were two singular ones that were soft and hard and one mattress wasn’t great.
I’d definitely come back however.

Had high hopes having stayed several years ago. However, my bathroom wasn’t very clean, mould, dirty shower and missing tiles. The shower was stuck on hot and it was scalding. My room, nice but woke up to find 7 ladybird bugs flying about. Dinner I had to send my food back as it was seriously over cooked, in general the food was very disappointing very much style over substance and taste. Breakfast was terrible, my food was stone cold as was my colleagues but least we received ours, the other person in our party received porridge instead of a cooked breakfast and service was so slow we had to leave for the meeting meaning so he went without. Check out was very slow as only one person on desk doing check out and taking phones calls.
Won’t be returning, at £150 for one night more was expected.

A wonderful character hotel with immaculate rooms and beautiful grounds. Staff are so attentive and the bar restaurant is great place to spend an evening. Make sure you order breakfast and it is stunning!

Lovely modern rooms, very spacious and good bathroom facilities. Breakfast is nice, but if you didn’t want a full english there isn’t much choice in the buffet section. Only complaint is that the hotel hosts events (weddings etc) and don’t tell you there will be an event on with loud music until you have paid for a non refundable room!! We stayed last night, checked in and was told our room was right above the wedding reception, loud music till midnight, we may as well have been in the party we could hear everything word for word. Would definitely recommend ringing the hotel before you book to check there isn’t an event on the night you’re staying, if there is don’t expect much sleep till after midnight!

I stayed at the abbey house many times in the past, but this particular visit was awful. The staff were incredibly rude, I was left, feeling humiliated. I will not ever stayed in this hotel again. Staff need to be trained in customer service, they certainly do not need to be trained and how they become aggressive with customers, and how they like to humiliate customers repeatedly within a public eating area. There is very little understanding from the members of staff and they try and justify their exceptionally poor attitudes.
As I say, there are many hotels in this area and I will now be trying the different hotels as I’m sure the customer service will be much better than this ‘four-star’ hotel.
It is such a shame, because I have had some very good experiences on different days within this hotel, but it appears that the staff have changed and not for the better.
