The Inn is beautiful and historically decorated, staff were friendly and efficient, breakfast (included) was delicious. The room and bed were comfortable. Loved the seating on the wrap-around porch and the view from porch swing was lovely. The flower and herb gardens added to the delightful ambiance. Location was close to shops and the ferry to Madeline Island. We had a lovely 2 day stay.

Great place within walking distance to dining, shopping and the ferry to Madeline Island. VERY friendly staff and loved that breakfast was included.

This is a wonderful, magical place you take a step back in time. You will not regret this beautiful B&B.

A beautiful, and well run facility.

Love this place so much, bedrooms, dining room, corridors are beautiful. Love the classic victorian style.
2.5
Great staff and service.
Lovely hotel.
Only downside room was a bit hot and as we were in a room near the stairs there were a lot of chattering people saying good night to each other as they parted ways

We were pampered as always, the Rittenhouse is a bed and breakfast second to NONE. Every detail is perfect. Fine dining with a multiple course, chef-made breakfast, amazing location, beautiful rooms. Best of the best.

I love Rittenhouse. It amazed me inside and out. Overall i love the place and the service

Over priced for what you get. For a BnB it was what I expected.

Very comfortable stay, friendly staff and decent food.
Restaurant service was a bit slow.

We booked two nites at the Old Rittenhouse Inn in Room VII. The outside of the Inn was beautiful in the fall foliage and sunshine when we arrived. Breakfasts were nice too. Unfortunately the room itself was disappointing. The redeeming factor is that it was large with a king bed and had its own bathroom. Compared to other vintage B&Bs where we have stayed we found the decorating terribly dreary and totally dated with old-time bordered wallpaper and an usual collection of antique oriental fans on the walls instead of pictures. We knew that there would be a large 1980s-vogue jacuzzi in the room that we wouldn’t use. However, the online photos show a fireplace with a burning fire. Reality was a sofa pushed up against the fireplace so it could not be used even in October! There is no TV is the room, no mini-fridge nor a coffeemaker as is customary with a more upscale room. To perhaps maintain the period look of the Inn, if that is indeed the point of not having these amenities, all could be installed in the armoire in the room. Frankly with so many places in Bayfield closed due to Covid there is not much to do after 7:30 pm. So with no TV and difficult reading with the low wattage antique lamps we wished we had booked one nite instead of two. They also do not serve dinner now except on weekends. With the tired look and lack of fireplace warmth in the room Old Rittenhouse was OK, but when we come back we will stay elsewhere.

Great Location, Historic charm, with very attentive staff.

Beautiful place. Did kinda miss a TV , as it was cold outside, so that limited things to do at night. And COVID limited restaurant availability. Very nice time.

This is a beautiful B&B. We were at room 5 which was a great size and it seemed like that other rooms on the floor were the same. Old Victorian charm with modern amenities. COVID has had an impact but was managed reasonably good. We highly recommend this hotel.

I loved the old time feel. Staff were great and very accommodating! Air conditioner was a plus. Have a TV option might be nice. I like to watch local news and was unable to at night. I stayed at another B&B and they had a pillow mattress added for comfort. Otherwise it was amazing and would still come again! I only stayed one night and would have loved to have stayed longer. Thank-you so much for allowing me to stay and make me feel safe with Covid 19. I loved your strict face mask policy. I believe as a business owner it is your lead we all should follow. So thank-you so much! Will certainly come again!

Gorgeous property! Owner actually checked us in and spent some time getting us acquainted with what was where and little bit of the history of the place. Wish we could have spent more time there. Breakfast was amazing!

The hotel, staff and breakfasts were amazing. This was the most beautiful B&B we have ever stayed in.

We were not advised that we would be staying in their so-called cottage--a dark dreary place with no view except an old vacant house next door--rather than the elegant looking mansion/inn until we arrived. Mattress was very soft, causing one to roll to the center; floors and doors creaked, shower door was difficult to close, hot water took forever to arrive, some window shades could not be lowered, driveway was dirt (thank goodness it didn't rain!); windows over the basement were boarded over with rough plywood on the outside, just did not look well cared for at all--substandard for the ridiculously high price paid ($399/night but with the markup by Hotels.com/Expedia, it was almost $200 higher for the two-night stay). The breakfasts included in the stay were nice; but the 'fruit of the day' was actually a rich cobbler with fresh fruit baked in--nothing fresh was offered. We had expected a nice view of the lake, but instead were tucked in on a side street with a view of woods across the street and a vacant house, as noted above on one side, and a residence on the other side. We certainly do not intend to stay at this place again, nor do we intent to use Hotels.com/Expedia.

The property was very beautiful, and rather European in style. Each suite was completely unique, and the restaurant, in particular, was visually delightful. The landscaping really topped off the beauty of the structure.
I was, however, disappointed in the size of our 'suite'. It was barely walkable, with only a few hangers on the wall as a closet. It definitely needed a wardrobe, at least. The room cleaning was minimal, at best, with only the bed being made, and very little else. The front desk, too, was not a very warm and welcoming one, with very few pleasantries exchanged
Our breakfast was included with the room, and that definitely made it much more worthwhile, as the food was simply outstanding.
Overall, we would think of going back in the future, however, we would now know to get a room big enough for two!

Totally charming, true to the era and so quiet, clean and comfortable. We highly recommend it. Centrally located for easy walking distance around the main shopping area. We can't wait to go back again for a longer visit.

Staff was so kind and nice and the setting is beautiful. I made reservations to come back when I checked out!!

This was a fun place to stay, and I would recommend it for people who appreciate older architecture. However, I probably wouldn't stay here again because of the price.

We have not been to Old Rrittenhouse for at least ten years. When we went back we were so delighted to see most friendly staff welcoming us on behalf of Mary and Jerry and helping us with our luggages to our romantic room. Our room was fantastic overlooking the lake Superior with a cozy fireplace and a Jacuzzi to relax and enjoy our Valentine's Day together while listening to a nice CD that was provided in the room! The food was prepared by Jerry and Mary's son Mark. It tasted just like when Mary was preparing the food with fresh and most delicious ingredients. We loved our two breakfast at the Inn and the most friendly staff you would ever want to meet and chat. We can't say enough about how we enjoyed our two days at the Old Ritten House Inn.

Very comfortable atmosphere and amazing food. The staff was attentive and professional. They made great recommendations on exploring the town. I would recommend you stay there at least one night if you head up.

We stayed here for 2 nights on a 21-night touring holiday. Happily, our stay coincided with my husband's birthday, and we couldn't have had a nicer place to be. This is so different from the usual chain hotels, and the food was excellent. We liked the way the menu specials were explained orally, rather than written down. We were also fortunate that the boat trips from Bayfield to the Apostle Islands started again that weekend after the winter.
