Because of the photos online, we had high expectations for this hotel.
What we found was a well kept exterior and design concept but rooms with very dated interior that lacked basic maintenance and upkeep.
Our family had a total of three rooms in what appears like the facility's keep or tower.
Our room had the following (believe it was 221 - first door at top of stairs):
• Worn/Filthy/Stained Carpet
• Peeling/Stained Wallpaper
• Rotted Baseboards/Trim
(See Photos)
Note: Family told us their rooms were not much better.
Another issue was that our bed which was two twins pushed together kept separating because it was on wheels, not stationary like most are when in this configuration.
Although an adequately maintained room would not have been unreasonable at the hotel's rate $182 (this amount did not including parking), it was certainly a waste for the condition of the room.
Please know there is not valet or bellman and you may need to take two elevators to get to your second story room.
Not everything was bad, highlights were the restaurant/room service staff which were kind, knowledgeable, and prompt. Food was very good!

Nice hotel in a pretty town, relatively close to Bilbao and very close to the old town of Durango. The rooms are a bit dark and not brand new, but quite big and clean. The bed is very comfortable. The pool area is pleasant.

OK hotel. But not 4 stars yet.

Restaurant staff very helpful, thank you Miss Sara.
The beer is great, but food is very salty. I stayed 2 days with 3 meals, all of them are salty, so it's not an accident.

The hotel is centrally located in 10 minutes walking distance to the old town of Durango. We have booked a comfort room. The room was large, equipped with a king size bed, sitting area, fridge, kettle etc. The internet connection in room #124 was reliable.
The breakfast was of good quality. There is a very limited choice of restaurants nearby, so I had diner in the hotel restaurant. The steak was of excellent quality,
Parking was included in the special rate offered by hotel.com if not charged at 15.- €. Street parking is difficult to find. .
On the negative side, there are many stairs to manoeuvre when accessing the hotel. The access to the fitness area is chargeable.

The hotel is nice. The restaurant bar makes good drinks. You're about 40 min away from bilbao city center by public transport, but the ride doesn't feel that long.

Great welcoming team - nothing too hard for them to sort out - enjoyed our stay - wish we had a bit more time to explore the town.

First impression of the hotel is wonderful. Lovely garden and lobby. Staff were nice.
Rooms are not so nice. Small, very warm, I had the AC on full the entire time. The rooms are in much need of some attention. Lots of chipped paint. The blind was broken for our 4 night stay despite our room being serviced every day. No water in the room. No tea or coffee facilities for guests. €14 a night to use the car park. ( it was €12 when i booked)
The gym was €5 each.
When you're paying £164 a night room only I feel it was way over priced for the service they provided.

Our room had multiple balconies, one with a table for late afternoon wine and cheese. Staff was helpful and friendly, parking was under the building. The included breakfast buffet had ample choices.

Good sized room, unfortunately over looking a wall at the back but it was very quiet. Lovely swimming pool and good outside area. The food in the restaurant was amazing and if anything the portions were too large! Great food. We had DBB that included a full bottle of wine!

We spent 3 nights and really enjoyed both the Hotel and Durango will stay again if sailing from Bilbao.

I enjoyed staying at the hotel and there were a number of positives but the overbearing issue was there was a wedding reception which meant every element of the hotel facilities were overstretched so impossible to get service in the lounge, no outdoor seating and secure parking full.

This hotel is more like a 3-star hotel as it seems to have quite a few years on the neck. The room was extremely scented, which makes you wonder what smell are they trying to hide. Moreover, the fact that the gym costs to use is very strange. This hotel is to consider if you're exploring the Basque country by car and need somewhere convenient and relative cheap to sleep.

Old rich hotel, chic dusted by time, but great feeling inside. Staff is amazing and super nice, restaurant of high quality. Just matress was too soft and -not- soundproof door and walls.

Excellent Hotel with good facilities and close to place of business.

Had a two night stay here for business purpose. Nice central location yet easy to access from the main roads. Friendly and helpful staff, decent pricing and practical parking in the underground under the hotel. The restaurant was OK but very pricy for the food served (I must admit I only ate there on monday, which is a "closed" day in Basque area / Spain, maybe the chef was off.) Go eat in one of the small bodegas or bars nearby instead. Breakfast was good. I'll come back to this hotel another time.

The hotel was really nice, although the room was very basic, but comfortable. The breakfast was excellent! It would’ve been nice for the pool to be opened earlier.

9 of us had a 2 night break at this wonderfully amazing hotel. The staff were incredibly helpful, the service superb and the restaurant food varied and 1st class. The gym was comprehensive and equipment brand new. The spa facilities were also fabulous. We will definitely be back but next time for a much longer stay.

I stayed on an overnight stop over, en route to Portugal so didnt get to experience the local area. The hotel was very comfortable, great gym, convenient parking and wonderful breakfast. Staff were great but bar food service was very slow. Got fed up waiting to be served. As I was tired from an 11 hour drive, I couldnt wait and skipped the meal and want to bed. The breakfast made up for it though.

I requested a big bed and instead I got 2 twins, other than that was amazing

Emergency stop over due to car breakdown. Most prestigious hotel in a small town.Beds very comfortable but some updating in the rooms needed. Not much outside space.Breakfast was delicious and a highlight of our stay.

This is a nice Hotel in a great little city. But their WiFi is basically nonexistent. It’s two minutes then five minutes off.
You can’t communicate back home, etc. if they fix that it’ll be a lot better.

What a lovely place to stay! It is a very stylish hotel, classic but modern without being too modern and soulless. The hotel staff were incredibly friendly and helpful too. I only stayed one night but would definitely return on another trip.

Lovely hotel but bad smell in the lobby and food service in lobby very very slow and pool could have definitely been warmer.

Get a room on the front side because the back rooms are blinded by a concrete retaining wall as attractive as if you pressed your nose to the concrete sidewalk.

The rooms are modern clean and well presented the hotel is well located for Durango and surrounding areas.Swimming pool is lovely and big with comfortable lounges next to it however we were not allowed to swim in it before the lifeguard arrived at 12! Sadly there were no in room drinks facilites of tea or coffee. The mini bar had 2 very small bottles of complimentary water that were not replaced for our second night stay.Breakfast buffet priced 12euro pp had a poor selection of warm breakfast items. Although we arrived at 9.50 (we were told it ended at 10.30) items were not restocked.

We stayed here just to go to Asador Etxebarri, and found it a pleasing hotel with an interesting old part of town nearby
