I would give it 5 stars however the kitchen opens too late for bf and there is no coffee in the rooms. Also, felt the drinks were overpriced.

We liked the property, the only thing I found odd was thy include a free continental breakfast which is coffee juice fruit bread..n yogurt..it’s more expensive on the menu than a traditional breakfast but thy don’t let choose ..I found that odd n wound up paying for the lower priced..

The staff was always very friendly and helpful. The property was quiet and beautiful. Would definitely recommend if you want a quiet getaway. Multiple restaurant/bars within walking distance as well as convenient store. Area was safe, we never had any issues in our 5 days staying here. We will be returning.

Quaint little hotel- perfect stay for us to relax and unplug! Nothing fancy, but everything you need!

The view

Just tucked away far enough from the world to be beyond peaceful, but close enough to get into town. With a bus stop literally at your door. This old school Mexican. So don’t come here looking for fake skyscraper hotels and pools full of thousands of people. Here it’s all about the best sunsets and chill vibes

They are on the Ocean and have the best views, staff is friendly, and the property gives the old Mexican charm.Good for Insta Posts!
Its a nice place but needs upgrades, we were for a night so could manage but in our room, the toilet door was faulty, TV was not working.

Quiet area. Great view of the water and Cancun.

Mixed feelings. The staff are really wonderful. But the room we stayed in was not very nice. The bedsheets were stained, the beds not comfy & everything felt tatty. Examples: the shower curtain was pretty dirty, there were chunks of wood out of the front door, the lampshade was super old and just looked generally run down. The shower was all over the place and water didn’t flow in a single direction. It needs a good lick of paint and some TLC.
The breakfast was not great, a bowl of yogurt and some bread rolls is not ideal maybe some croissants and actual milk instead of powdered creamer would be a nicer touch!
That being said if you want a quiet location this is great. The staff as I mentioned can’t do enough for you and are very kind. The place just needs a lil TLC although other reviewer photos I see are nicer than the room we had.

Nice property. The staff is nice. But there are no services. Bar closed at 7. Dining room closed at 8. There is nothing in the vicinity of the property.

Pros- beautiful setting with pool, aqua sea, tropical foliage, very good food on site, quaint hotel. Staff very helpful and hardworking, several restaurants and a small market within walking but we did enjoy our cart for both the hot day and windy day.
Con’s- loud boats anchor off shore, same as on playa Norte where we stayed earlier. Rooms could use some upgrades- lampshades, curtains, simple things but room were definitely comfortable

Beautiful views, stairs are uneven, things are just tired but the rooms are updated and pleasant.

our room was perfect loved the view. overall the property was just perfect. love the value. I just didn't care for the side next to the deck by the ocean. when I looked into the woods their was tons of beer cans and garbage. would of been nice not to have to look at the garbage when I was laying in the sun. we would go again and book the same place

My time at La Joya was fantastic. The staff are unbelievably friendly. The room was perfect for me and the staff went out if their way to ensure my stay was great. Hector was unreal and helped with every single thing I needed. The food was delicious and the hotel was the perfect place for me to unwind and kick back. I’d definitely return here the next time I visit the island. Missing it already!!

The hotel itself is wonderful - hence the 5 star rating. The rooms are a little dated but are clean, have great views and provide you with comfortable beds and everything else you need to enjoy your stay. Breakfast, lunch and dinner on your balcony is a dream and was one of my favorite things. The property is located on a slightly steep hillside that cascades down to the sea. Those with mobility issues should be aware that there are many steps and there isn’t an elevator.
A note on the surroundings and what I would change if I visited again. We preferred this end of the island. In my opinion, it’s much easier to relax. It’s quieter and there are far less people compared to the Playa Norte/Downtown area. We broke our trip up into two stays with Hotel La Joya being our first and then we moved up to a hotel close to Playa Norte. Next time, I would probably stay here the whole time and seek out a good deal for an extended golf cart rental.

Rooms are getting a bit worn but beautiful location and view. Very nice pool.

We arrived tired, hot with thumping loud music from a nearby hotel. The next day and rest of the week was just lovely. We grew to love the place.

This hotel is a hidden gem and we are so lucky to have stayed here. This property is overflowing with old charm. Beautiful hotel on a cliffside with ocean views and ocean access, a pool, restaurant/bar, and very nice staff. My husband and I are childless, budget travelers in our 20s, but we chose to spend a little more for a room with an ocean view and it was 1000% worth it. The staff brought breakfast to our patio every morning and we felt spoiled. We were walking distance from a few restaurants, stores, recreation areas, and Punta Sur (10 mins). Food and drinks at the restaurant were great. Also the AC in the room was excellent and much needed.
For us, this property was nearly perfect. However, it is a property with character, so there are some quirks. It is not the most updated, the wifi isn’t the greatest, and it didn’t seem the most handicap accessible (lots of stairs). The continental breakfast is a basket of rolls, sliced fruit, yogurt, OJ, and coffee (eggs, meat, pancakes, etc. available for an additional charge). For us, this was not a problem, but let this set your expectations accordingly.

I have mixed feelings about this property; the staff is fantastic. I don't have anything bad to say about the service. The hotel itself could have some improvement, I think I just had the bad luck of booking my stay so late that I ended up paying around 300 bucks the night, and that didn't feel worth it. The rooms are big enough and comfortable but at 300 bucks the night it felt that something was lacking. For future guests of this property, this hotel is located in the southeast part of the island; you'll need a taxi to go to the downtown area or Playa Norte, the best beach on the island. Bring bug spray because the mosquitos in the outdoors are terrible. This hotel has water filters so that was a good amenity, there is beach access, but it's very rocky so bring water shoes. The hotel is also close to Garrafon, where you can do snorkeling and Punta Sur where you can watch the sunrise.

Love this little property. Comfy beds, nice pool. Outdoor privacy is at a minimum when they have a full house, but a nice way to meet people. Be prepared for lots of fairly steep stairs no matter where you go. Staff very friendly and helpful. Beautiful spot!

An honest review of La Joya.
The pros: The grounds and views are beautiful. The staff delightful. The food was delicious and affordable. Loved breakfast on our patio. The room was clean. The grounds well taken care of. The beds for Mexican standards were pretty good. A bit firmer than I like but not a concrete block.
Cons: The room was small and a bit dated. The bathroom needs a remodel and we had zero water pressure. There are lots of stairs but wasn’t a problem for us.
The location can be a pro or con. We loved being away from the craziness of centro but that’s not for everyone.
The staff and views absolutely make the place the gem that it is. I would stay again.
